Crime against vodka

by mrgoodtime at Citysearch

We were in this bar for all of 90 seconds. We walked in, sat at the bar. The bartender was pouring a large plastic jug of some clear liquid into a bottle of Grey Goose. My friend nudged me and asked "What is she pouring into that Grey Goose bottle"? I looked over...saw a red label... it was Popov! She was doing this right at the bar in front of everyone! My world was shattered. She walked by and I asked her what travesty had just transpired. She didn't understand. I asked the nice Korean man next to me and he translated. The bartender turned to me and simply stated... "Oh, same ting." I said "It is NOT the same ting!" I didn't know how to react. I backed away horrofied, made a telephone gesture with my hand to my ear and said "I'm calling the cops!". When we walked to a nearby bar I was on the phone with my friend explaining to him the injustice we just endured when another gentleman overheard me and said "Oh, did you just come from 'The Prince?''" "Yes" I said. "They do that all the time" he replied.

And that's all I have to say about that.

Unusual British-themed Koreatown bar caters to neighborhood regulars and Wilshire Boulevard professionals.

by Tara Lis at Citysearch

The Scene
Apparently nobody thought to redecorate when the bar transitioned from fancy Englishman-themed hotel lobby bar to a Korean restaurant and lounge. And it's a good thing--the juxtaposition of decor and menu is a big part of its charm. Located in a subterranean space in the former Windsor Hotel location, framed portraits of redcoat dignitaries and other proper-looking 19th century gentleman decorate the walls, while young couples on dates and well-dressed businessmen sip soju and beer. Comfortable exaggerated shell rounded booths comprise most of the seating areas, and a large bar rests in the center of the room.

The Draw
For some it's a comfortable space to get away from the booking--i.e. involuntary matchmaking--policies of other area nightclubs. For others, it's all about novelty. First timers are always intrigued by the concept that for every round of drinks ordered, complimentary food items are brought to the table, which become progressively more elaborate.
