wish they were open on sundays!
by sidandsophia at Citysearch
i must say, julienne has the best service we've ever experienced at a breakfast spot. i never saw the bottom of my water glass or my coffee cup. the staff is ever present but never hovering, the perfect balance. i ordered the chilaquiles with bacon (my favorite favorite favorite brunch meal and hangover cure, haha) and the first order didn't have bacon like i asked but i ate it anyway cuz it was so good! when we brought it to the attention of our server, he was apologetic, quickly took my plate away, and brought me another chilaquiles with the bacon in it in less than ten minutes. i pretty much ate 2 plates of chilaquiles! the chips were crispy and the topping of sour cream, cheese, and avocado was delish. oh! the rosemary toast was divine, too! we each got a loaf for our moms, plus the strawberry jelly. we went again for breakfast and the fiance got the creme brulee french toast and wow! we couldn't place it at first, but it tasted just like pineapple upside down cake (a good thing!). we should try julienne for lunch sometime, but for now, their brunch hits the spot!
- Pros: superb service!
- Cons: not open on sundays!
Packed but great food!

This place is packed all the time but it is definitely one of those restaurants that you have to try.
Excellent atmosphere for lunch, relaxing spot and pretty sceneries.
Charming Brunch
by gizzmo01 at Citysearch
I come here once a month. It's one of my favorite places to have brunch. I always enjoy my meal here but I think I come here more because of the ambiance. I just ove its rustic and charming decor. Dont forget to visit their gourmet store just next door while you're there!
bigotry alive and well in san marino

the decor is lovely and the food quite nice, but for those of you "of color," rethink this establishment. i (japanese) brought a friend (chinese) for a birthday breakfast one weekday morning. there was a Caucasian group ahead of us that was seated. the hostess or owner saw us standing behind (we both made eye contact with her) them when she passed us to take them to their seats. when she came back to seat the next party (us, i imagined) another Caucasian group of ladies walked in. she looked passed us to seat them next. this act was so blatant that my and my friend's mouth dropped open in disbelief. there happened to be 2 Latino waiters that happened to have been standing at the register with her. they looked a little startled and the 4 of looked at each other for a few seconds. then one of the waiters said, "i think they were here first." the woman looked indignant, said, "oh." and took us to be seated. there was no apology or excuse. the only word she spoke to us was, "oh."
- Pros: great if you're Caucasian and wealthy
- Cons: bigotry
Brunch with a reservation.
by oprygirl at Citysearch
This place is great. It's almost like you're not in the city. Delicious food, but make sure you have a reservation. Waiting 45 minutes for brunch is NOT worth it.
Love early morning breakfast

what a way to start the day. Having grown up close by my mother still frequents Julienne's on her early A.M. walks and loves it when I can join her after my early gym workout. I was pleasantly surprised they opened as early as 7:00am during the weekday. Had my favorite huevos julienne(huevos rancheros) declicious and decadent. My mother love's their oatmeal with the yummy baked apple slices on top. The ambience of botanicals and music playing in the backround make for a lovely setting breakfast or lunch time. Love the staff they cater to us.
NOT recomended

I guess ambience can make people see things that aren't there. Went to this restaurant upon the other reviews written here and unfortunately we were really let down. The staff trys hard under what appears to be one tough owner to work for. In fact some of the interaction between the owner and staff that we unfortunatley overheard really put cold water on the experience.
One of us ordered the "Beet" salad, 3 little beets, guess we didn't get the magnifing reading glasses to make it look like what you would expect. Save your money and your TIME, in Los Angeles, their are thousands better. I guess when the owner projects such a negative and "special" attitude you can't expect greatness.
Little local gem!

This must be the Pasadena area's best kept secret! Julienne is located on a nice tree-lined street in San Marino. They have sidewalk dining with little foot traffic so no one is peering over your shoulder at your food as they walk by. And you can actually smell your food since this restaurant is not located on a bus route! I don't think I have had one bad item on their menu here! And I have been here a lot! So be adventureous! Try something new if you return! And if this will be your first time then be rest assured you will leave happy! But before you go home, stop by their little gourmet shop inside for some frozen food items, gourmet cracker spreads, sandwiches, or to go items from the menu. They are wonderful and enough to fool your friends into thinking you are a fabulous cook and you didn't have to break a sweat to do it! And for those of you who enjoy the Hollywood Bowl or want a decent meal for your next airplane trip, their "Lunch" boxes will make any neighbor sitting by you jealous! So indulge! You are worth it!
- Pros: free street parking, food, gourmet food shop
- Cons: no reservations accepted unless you are a large party
Great little restaurant in San Marino
by jim27 at Citysearch
Such an adorable little restaurant. I scored very big with my girlfriend when I decided to take her there! The service is great, the food is really, really good, and the atmosphere I'd have to say is by far one of the things that makes this little hideaway so very special. I literally felt like I was in Europe!
- Pros: Service, Food, Ambiance
Wonderful ambiance, unimpressive food
by jennigonjoo at Citysearch
I walked into Julienne and instantly fell in love. The whole ambiance of the place was so 'French' and beautiful. You walk in sit down, and you feel like you are in a little cafe in France, but then the food arrives. The chicken/bacon baguette sandwhich I ordered was soggy and chewy. I don't mind paying for good food, but good food is not what you'll get here. I would not recommend.
- Pros: ambiance, quiet place, great neighborhood
- Cons: food taste, overpriced
