I love this place!!!! Their salads are awesome!!!! They are my favorite. Their pizza is to die for. I love their chix ceasar salad and their chix mediterranean salad. The service is great. They are soooo friendly.
Bad pie, bad attitude

Been ordering from Dagwood's for 7 years (more location than the price or the food), but no more. We were delivered a soggy, undercooked pizza (for $26 bucks?) and when we called "the manager" said it was because of the mushrooms. (Not sure why that makes a pie undercooked). Then he asked "what do you want me to do about it?" (Since when is it on the customer to solve the problem). The only thing NY about this place is the addytude (sic). I'd rather slap sauce and a velveeta on toast then put $$$ in doughboy's pocket. Told he was losing a longtime customer, "Mr. Manager" had no worries ... Wonder if the owner feels the same.
- Pros: learning not to order from there again (only $26 bucks)
- Cons: Lousy service, generic food
Swing and a miss?

Just be careful what you order. The pizza's been good about 80% of the time. However, we ordered a white pie the other night and the spinach was clearly from a can or frozen. Not fresh in the least, which ruined the pizza altogether. I know times are tight, but fresh vegetables on a pizza are a no-brainer, especially if you're advertising such. I'll be trying out a few other joints because of this.
- Pros: Overall Good Pizza
- Cons: Lame Pasta, Not Fresh Ingredients
Good Cheap Salad & Sandwich
by mkwku at Citysearch
Though I haven't tried a lot of things at Dagwood's, I do have to say they have a great avocado salad and tuna sandwich. If I am eating in the restaurant or have it delivered the quality is always great for those items.
- Pros: Cheap
Never been treated worse!!!

Venice location is great...friendly staff, reliable food... the Santa Monica location...not so much! My fiance and I were treated so badly by the manager Zac. He not only screamed at us and accused us of lying but carried on to say that Dagwoods doesn't honor the customer is always right rule...no they "Keep it real"
Lets keep this real...when the owner gets back from Italy lets hope he finds out how Zac treats his local customers.
SLOOOOWWWW Service!

This was the slowest slice of pizza I ever had to wait for. And all I ordered was ONE SLICE OF CHEESE PIZZA! There were 4 people in the back working, and the restaurant (which wasn't all that nice for dining in) was not busy at all. I watched 2 people take bathroom breaks and go back to the kitchen. GROSS!!
I timed my slice of pizza, and it took 17 MINUTES for ONE SLICE! It was okay tasting considering it was just cheese with NO TOPPINGS.
Slowest Slice EVER

Let me first say that these guys make some of the finest pizza in the LA area, I mean it is really good. I've never had their sandwiches, but the salads and desserts are also fantastic. The first time I went at lunch and ate in. Seemed to take a while to get my food. The second time I ordered a slice to go and timed it. One slice took 21 minutes. Twenty One Minutes. They weren't even busy.
I don't know what they are doing back there, but that long for a slice is ridiculous. Every single employee I saw took a cigarette break while I sat there staring at the counter waiting. The pizza is great, but I doubt I'll be back with service that unapologetically awful.
- Pros: Great Pizza
- Cons: Unprofessional, slow, clueless service
Great place to get a customized slice of pizza
by rudette at Citysearch
You can get whatever you want - I like artichoke hearts, olives and tomatoes. Whatever combo you like you'll be very happy - they know what they're doing with pizza here. I'm from NYC where there's great pizza on every corner and here in LA there's just not. BUT Dagwood's comes pretty close to the NYC stuff. I wouldn't recommend their sandwiches, but go try their pizza.
New York Pizza!
by moorebuzz at Citysearch
Ok... I'm from Brooklyn and I am very particular about my pizza's and calzones! I have searched everywhere and this is the closest I found to NY pizza. The sauce, the cheese, the crust is "almost" perfect. The calzones are also the closest you'll find. Made the real way with whole milk mozzarella and whole milk ricotta cheese. Now I've been here about a dozen times and only had 1 bad experience with the pizza which was a bit overcooked, but perhaps it was just a bad day. I still say they are the best for now. Now don't let the name Dagwoods fool you! I have been living in the neighborhood and drive by them everyday for the past few years and never ever thought of giving them a try. The restaurant looks too commercial! Then one day a friend of mine came over and offered to bring by a pizza pie from the neighborhood Dagwoods, and when we tried it... we almost flipped! Now I'm there everyweek. Try it New Yorkers! There is a particular taste NY pizza has and they got it down! Bingo!
I love this place!

I moved to Santa Monica 9 months ago. I've become addicted to this place! They're nice, super-clean and the food is completely fresh. They're also super fast. Most importantly, they deliver! At lightning pace! I can't eat dairy, so my review's a bit skewed. I order pizza there, and they'll do it with no cheese, and that's awesome, but I'm addicted to their hot chicken sub! It's like 8-9 bucks, but worth EVERY penny. Ordering's seamless once they have your info on file, so go eat!
- Pros: Fast, Clean, Yummy!
- Cons: , Sometimes really busy
