Spectacular Sushi by Susan D. at InsiderPages

This is the best Sushi in the San Fernando Valley. The restaurant is very quiet and peaceful with superior service. Everything is always so fresh. One of my favorites is the eel. The menu is not limited to Sushi. It has numerous other fabulous traditional Japanese dishes as well. Enjoy!

Best Japanese Restaurant in LA

by wgSchubert at Citysearch

This just has to be the only good (actually, wonderful) Japanese restaurant left in the LA area. I've been going for more than forty years and have never had anything but a most enjoyable dining experience. I go to dinner at Mikado as often as I can, it's worth the drive.

  • Pros: best of everything
  • Cons: hope my review doesn't make it too crowded to get in

Mikadon't !

by Hope4LA at Citysearch

We've passed by this restaurant many times and being open minded to trying something new and Japanese, we stopped to enjoy an early dinner. The atmosphere was friendly and inviting, decor and bathrooms decorated nicely creating what should be the perfect mood to enjoy good Japanese food. Though other reviewers raved about the Sushi, we chose to order off the menu. To our surprise, the menu was limited and dull. We should have known that the food would be as well. When it finally arrived, it was lukewarm, undercooked and unappetizing. The portions were rather small for Asian cuisine and overpriced as well. We've had better tasting frozen Japanese food from the grocery store. Save your time and money.

  • Pros: Ambience,Decor
  • Cons: Overpriced, Food quality

In a hotel, but not a hotel restaurant

by mikeladd29 at Citysearch

This place is pretty good. The sushi isn't the best around, especially since "sushi row" is just around the corner. Drinks are good, sushi could be more fresh.

  • Pros: Ambience
  • Cons: Sushi Freshness

something to remember

by megandty at Citysearch

I have been going to this restaurant since I was a little girl. All I have of it is good memories. There sushi is great! The Sushi chefs are so friendly and have always made friends with us. I look forward to going there every time. The coy ponds and decoration add to the scenery to making it a truly wonderful place to visit. When ever you have a craving for sushi make sure you stop in here!

Not JUST sushi...

by funfabfoodie at Citysearch

This place does an excellent job with cooked japanese dishes in addition to their sushi menu. For cooked dishes, I LOVE the Kurobota Pork Chop. For sushi, the Albacore Crunch Roll is a must (and this is from someone who typically doesn't like the crazy rolls). HAVE YOU EVER HAD ESCOLAR SUSHI??? This is the very first place I tried it and I find myself craving it. It is difficult to find at most sushi restaurants; the only other place that serves it is a small spot on Riverside called Sho, but it is not as good. In terms of ambience, you walk in and find a japanese restaurant, a long sushi bar, a separate cocktail bar area, AND a patio area... so everytime I come here, it can be a different experience (my husband usually likes the sushi bar while my friends will opt for the cocktail bar or this past Saturday, we hung out in the patio... perfect for those warm nights in the valley). From someone who doesn't like their cocktails too sweet, I like the lychee martini (beware: it is not a light pour, but you can ask the hostess to call you a cab home).

  • Pros: Great if you are looking for sushi AND cooked japanese dishes
  • Cons: No valet parking

Sushi + MaiTais = Deelish!

by sjizzle at Citysearch

Everything at this place is delicious! Tasty, eclectic fusion dishes from the kitchen and the sushi bar -- don't miss the kobe beef, crunchy roll, and of course the frozen maitai special. The atmosphere is very chill ... awesome patio area, great tunes playing in the background. Definitely my fave restaurant in NoHo.

  • Pros: Food, drinks, service

Best Sushi in LA!

by really_lovin_la at Citysearch

By far the best sushi in LA! I go to sushi several times a month and this place blew me away. A must try in my book:) The servers were sweet and very attentive. I loved the mai tai's and the environment is perfect for a date or just a fun night out with friends. I love how open the restaurant is, it is nothing like the typical strip mall sushi restaurants. To top it off the non sushi items are awsome as well... My friends and I each ordered something from the kitchen and it was all amazing!!! I was very impressed:) A+++++

Chill Place with Great Sushi & Cocktails!

by 818girrrl at Citysearch

This is a restaurant that I always passed by and never really noticed, but I went the other day with a couple friends and it was great! The waitress suggested the Albacore Crunch Roll - OMG, Yum! The sushi pieces were sizeable and fresh. We also tried the kobe flank steak which was so tasty. I'm not much of a sake or beer drinker, so I tried the mai tai, which was a slushy, fruity, delicious rum concoction and they were buy 1 get 1 free...sweet.

Overall, the service was really good, the sushi and food were excellent, and it was a really comfortable (big booths, not cramped like some other sushi bars). I don't know what the other reviewer was referring to when she said it was pricey, because we came out of there spending less than $40 each (with tip) and full as can be, which by my standards is cheap for a night of sushi & cocktails. Definitely a place to check out!
