I love training at The Sports Center

by dr8888

I have been training at The Sports Center off and on for 9 years and I love it. I am a fitness professional myself and I love having a place to go where I can be trained and pushed myself. My trainer is one of the best in town and the atmosphere is very motivating. Everyone is very well skilled and courteous as well as fun and friendly. I consider this my home away from home. As a professional in the same industry I have very high standards and I am always pleased with my experience there. It is always clean, every part of it, I am always greeted when I walk in the front door, the grounds are beautiful, clean towels are always available and being restocked constantly. The beauty is in the little details. Wonderful facility, great selection of classes, wonderful private trainers, beautiful pool, gorgeous tennis courts, fantastic food at the adjoining restaurant, great massages, sauna, showers...I love it! I love knowing I have a place to go to where I can turn off my brain and allow others to take care of me and motivate me and change my body from the inside out and the best part is knowing that I am in such good hands.

Best Gym in LA

by JRK72

I've been a member of this gym for 12 years now, starting with group kickboxing classes, then training with one of the personal trainers, and for several years it was my main gym - there every morning. It's a fantastic gym - from the friendly staff to great equipment (with no waiting even at peak times) to fantastic instructors and amazing trainers. I've moved several times and will still drive for 45 minutes each week to train with Brian. I highly recommend this gym if you are looking for a high quality place to work out where there's no "scene" to worry about. It's the perfect kind of family - always a frendly greeting but leave you alone when you want!

  • Pros: Quiet, accessible, knowledgable friendly staff, high quality facility
  • Cons: A bit expensive, somewhat limited hours

A Place Called Home - Toluca Lake Tennis Club and Sports Center

by dunkintyler58

If you want to work out and play tennis at a club where where the members and staff are friendly, professional, and range from 18-90 than look no further. I have been a memeber of the gym for 11 years and the tennis club for over a year and have found my 'home'. The tennis director, Ben Brunkow not only is a great teacher, but a great motivator to students of all ages. You can't beat the client service and patience he displays and his private lessons are at very affordable rates. All the instructors I have encountered in private or group tennis lessons and drills are professional and likeable whether it be Ben, Muffando, Bjorn, Albert, or Anne, not to mention easy on the eyes depending upon your preference. The Sports Center (Gym) is highlighted by many dedicated personal trainers. I have had the priviledge of training with Ryan Barreras most recently who has the most positive attitude as well as a great workout plan for you. You can tell during the first moments of his session that this is his career , and not a back-up job for an actor waiting to make it. You can't go wrong here. Enjoy the fun variety of classes, pool, jacuzzi and very clean locker rooms too. You won't be dissapointed.

Best boutique gym in town....especially if you play tennis and are over 35!

by DLB64

This little gym has everything you need to get the best workout yet none of the attitude or competition that usually accompany a gym this intimate. While you still have to check in at the front desk, the range of services available is the best in town. I personally love the head trainer, Brian Shiers but they have a great range of personal trainers and all the right equipment. I love the range of clientele at this gym, in the same workout you will see a celebrity next to couples over 70 keeping it going. The locker rooms are equipped, the bar/restaurant are fabulous, the tennis people play a lot of tennis, and the classes are great too. There is a massage therapist which I haven't tried but hear great things and the babysitting services are lovely.

Try it out!

  • Pros: location, parking, service, trainers, range of classes
  • Cons: no kids programs except tennis, babysitting

There's a resort feel to the place.

by Rick6666

The Sports Center is such a pleasant place to be that my work outs have actually become consistent. Skipping one rarely comes to mind. The equipment is varied and easy to use. There is never any waiting. The locker rooms are clean and the staff is friendly. It is a tennis club, as well, with a lounge, which adds to the ambience. There are all sorts of exercise options including trainers and classes. There's even a view of Warner Bros. studios.

The anti-chain gym

by robb0995

I was so sick of the whole 24 Hour Fitness/Bally's scene. Jam-packed clubs with broken equipment and the only time staff would even smile at you is if they were trying to sell you something else. :(

So, I was really glad to find this gym that turned all of that around. The club keeps top of the line equipment in perfect working order both in the weight room and cardio stuido. Membership is limited so it's never too crowded whenever you want to workout, and the staff is great.

What really got me results, though, was the private training. For what I'd pay at 24HR for a surly high-school dropout who only wants to sell me supplements, I got Jonathan, an experienced professional who actually is there to make it fun achieving my goals without selling me anything. And I mean it about achieving goals: in less than 6 months, I've lost almost 20% of my body weight, 10 inches off my waist, and packed on muscle.

I couldn't be happier.

  • Pros: Top-of-the-line equipment, great staff, great training
  • Cons: Parking lot is tight

Not Your Average Health Club

by california91207

You know this place is different when you pass through the comfortable lobby and not a meat market to get to the quiet, comfortable locker rooms. Spaced out around the adjoining 5 tennis courts are an excellent workout room, exercise floor, spin room and cardio area. Plenty of classes and friendly, helpful encouraging staff. After a workout, Tastebuds is as close to Cheers as you can get, the food's good, too!

  • Pros: Ambiance, Location, Staff
  • Cons: Parking (sometimes)

I LOVE my gym!

by leighniles_citysearch

From the classes, to the trainers, to the other gym-goers, Toluca Lake Tennis Club's Sports Center is the best. I love going there. The friendly feel makes me want to go and work out. It's really clean and well-maintained and never too crowded; it doesn't have that meat-market gym mentality where everyone is trying to look perfect and pick someone up. Derrick's Spin class is the best. You can also grab a bite at TasteBud's inside the club, or have an after-workout beer at the bar. I'm also having my rehearsal dinner here.

  • Pros: clean, good trainers, lots of classes
  • Cons: closes 7pm weekends
