Save yourself the hassle and go somewhere else
by MrBowen
I went in to this restaurant today for the first time. I work in Malibu and often eat lunch in other restaurants in the area. First of all, they don't carry pastrami, which is disturbing to find in a sandwich place. I ordered the turkey and the price on slip that they gave me wasn't the price listed on the board. I brought this up with the guy making sandwiches and he said that the sign was for decoration only. I told him that they are required to give me the price listed. He brought in the manager who refused to give me the posted price and told me I should go to Ralph's and get a *EXPLETIVE* sandwich.
- Pros: It's close to a lot of great restaurants that you can go to
- Cons: Horrible service
Worst Service EVER!
by lechat17
I live in Malibu and frequent many of the businesses in the Country Mart. These people are by far the worst. I have ordered the same sandwich 3 times and each time it was different. Their portions and quality are not consistent. I ordered a sandwich that was completely different from the fist time I ordered it and the guy behind the counter refused to change it or fix it. I hope they go out of business.
- Pros: None
- Cons: Rude, Pricey, Inconsistent, Long wait for service, overall bad experience.
Malibu Kitchen--Rudeness du Jour
by Malibite
They keep people waiting forever with no apology. The manager is disrespectful and arrogant, totally lacking in people skills. How do people like this stay in business? No food is worth this kind of treatment. Avoid this place! John's Garden is better and they are efficient and friendly.
- Pros: Average food.
- Cons: Unbelievably rude staff, long wait even when you are the only one in line.
Great Fast Meal

Old Fashion country Deli was wonderful. Gourmet sandwiches to cheese bar to home made bakery goods.
The service was great and staff was very friendly. Great place to people watch. Lovely out door seating and you can even bring your dog and sit outside.
We'll be back shortly.
- Pros: thumbs up
Neighborhood deli doles out warm sandwiches, fines cheeses, hearty soups and fresh-baked pastries.

In Short
Patrons line up at lunchtime to enjoy this fine delicatessen just a few short blocks from the shoreline. The wood cabin interior houses sandwich nirvana, namely in the form of the popular turkey, brie and cranberry. The dessert racks are filled with yummy fare, many baked daily with fresh fruits. The only real drawback is the unfriendly staff, especially around peak hours when things get rushed. If you ask to change your selection, or don't want mayo on your sandwich, get ready to rumble.
Bad service, rude people working there!

I went to get a sandwich was in line for more than 20 minutes no one asked me what I wanted. They had at least 4 employees behind the counter they were running around but no one said I'll help you as soon as I'm done... I left but that night talking with people that live in the area the comment they all had about that place is that they are extremely rude there.
- Pros:
As close to home as Malibu can get
by kiercemartin
Stepping into Malibu Kitchen is like stepping into a 50's general store, or a Cracker Barrel, or something like that. Whatever it is definitely very un-Malibu, in a good way. It feels like home when you step inside. The food is always fresh, and not to mention really affordable. Definitely a great place for Breakfast or lunch, it can get pretty hectic in there, and you might have a bit of wait for your food, but it's definitely worth it just to take the malibu stick out of your butt for 30 minutes or an hour, and feel at home.
Great, namely in the summer.

I love this restaurant. For one, the food is fantastic. They have anything and everything, and all of it is fresh. The people are so sweet and friendly, and the atmosphere is lovely, especially in the summertime. I love going there and eating lunch outside. Their prices are a bit steep, but I think that the food makes it worthwhile. I love that it's a combination of a restaurant/market, with something for everyone. I definitely see why this is still a popular place to eat. Grab something to go and eat it on the beach. Perfection.
- Pros: Ambience, Service, Food
- Cons: Seating, Parking (sometimes)
A Malibu Must
by sweet_sabrina
I love the down home country atmosphere. The owner as well as the employees are always friendly. I love the al freco area and the country like environment. The food is very good and they give you more than enough for one person. My only complaint is that the carrot cake cupcakes are so delicious!!! Even mouthwatering just to look at. I got my first one after years of staring at them and said that I was only going to eat a small portion of it. It was so good I sat outside and watched the shoppers coming and going. Next thing I knew I had eaten the whole Giant cupcake. I love the country store penny candy section. It has many of the great old timey kinds of candies such as Mary Jane, Caramel Cremes, Fire_Balls, BB Bats, Peppermint Patties, various gummy candies, and lots more. You can just open the jar and pick your favs! They have potato chips that you only find on the East Coast such as Wise although I did not see UTZ. But I still think Lays and Kettle Chips are the best and they have them both as well. The deli section serves NY Man sized portions not hidden in fru fru decorations. You get the real thing here. It's a wonderful place. It's one of my all time favoirtes in the area.
We choose to go elsewhere

When we visited, the man at the counter yelled at my very nice mother. She was standing in the wrong line after placing her order. I checked with the cashier and was told that he is the owner and he yells at people all the time. He was really out of line and mean. We choose not to support business that are run by mean people. There are many other places nearby that have very friendly people and excellent food (Marmalade).
