The view from this outdoor, rooftop bar still takes my breath away every time I’m there. I love the venue’s red, art deco architecture and couches that recline so far back you can almost lay down. Coupled with the fake grass lawn on one side of the roof, it almost makes that section of the bar feel like a living, breathing Target commercial. The enclosed bed pods over by the pool are one of the venue’s main draws, but they are so popular that’s very hard to snag a seat in them. Drinks run on par with the other downtown nightclubs in the city. Only downsides to this venue is that the dance floor is very small, and that there’s usually a long wait to get on to the rooftop on weekend nights.

I came to L.A for the fabled nightlife and the fabulousness that i see in the tabloids. i found it at the standard. It was a friday night and it was crowded as hell but the bouncer (who happens to be hot as hell) let my friends and i in after about a ten minute wait.. for free mind you. It was great. The drinks were strong as hell but they did take a long time to get. The bartender however was a complete a**hole! He attempted to shame me into giving him a larger tip then called me a b**ch! Besides that a**hole bartender the night was magical. The views of the LA skyline was absolutely breath taking. The waterbeds by the pool were the perfect place for my girls and I to hang by. Everyone seemed to be really friendly but it is definitely an L.A "scene." I saw at least 75 5'11, 60 lbs, blonde-haired big breasted, half dressed chicks. I guess that is LA for you. All and all I definitely recommend this place. It was a magical start to my vacation.
Pros: The beautiful surroundings, the strength of the drinks, the waterbeds
Cons: The bartender! $20 cover, all the skinny broads, all the men looked like they graduated from the handsome boy modeling school

It was my first time at the Standard and I was expecting to have a great experience there however, it was all but true what I have read and it looks like nothing has changed. I got there at 11:30 on a Sunday night with a friend of my that had just got of work from twin towers in LA to have a drink. When we got to the elevator to go to the roof top there was all but a hand full of people there. So we decided to wait and ask me why did it take 1 hour half. I notice it was a busy night but many of the guest that were just arriving were guest just like me but were let up stairs first. I confronted the security guard Curtis and his only answer was that "its busy" and after a while he was trying to take me for a fool so we left with a bad taste of the Standard. The next morning I sent an email to the general manager and he could not give me a straight reply just some email covering up for the pathetic customer service that they have. I notice that they do not know how to coordinate events with the guest and a need for someone to delegate more efficient at the Standard is needed. Nothing was accommodated for the bad customer service that was given and the general manager never made an extended offer to speak to me in person. I work for a financail center where every customer comes first is my priority and this is what they lack in.
Pros: good parking
Cons: bad customer service

Amazing view!! Like any place in LA, group of cute girls = no cover, no wait, fast service (sad but true). The bar service is a little slow but you can marvel at the beautiful downtown skyline while you're waiting (it's so much prettier when you're not stuck in rush hour traffic). The crowd is a little older--think 40-something-actor-wannabes, but the dance floor is of a decent size...so the key is to go dance, not meet people!
Pros: skyline
Cons: sleazy men

This is a must during the summer; beautiful views of downtown LA and a good crowd of professionals gather here from Thursdays-Sundays.

I went to the Standard for a friend's birthday party a couple weeks ago, and we ended up having an awful time because the hotel staff treated us so badly. While I think the decor is beautiful and worth seeing, I do not recommend going here. Such poor treatment from a hotel that's supposed to be nice is unacceptable. 1) We got there before 10:30 but were told there was no list and that only hotel guests were being let in, despite the fact that there was plenty of capacity upstairs. 2) When the party arranger and hotel guest came down himself and asked that we be let in, since he'd been told we would be, the people at the door acknowledged that he'd been promised that and then said that was too bad, they weren't going to honor that promise, and they didn't apologize. So we waited in the restaurant until we COULD be let in, and got lousy service there too: 3) Even though the restaurant was mostly empty, we were still told that sitting there required that we order a full meal. 4) 2 of the 4 drinks we ordered were made incorrectly. 5) The drinks were sent back and we got new ones, but were charged for an extra shot ($9), which we didn't find out about until we got the check. 6) When we complained to the waiter, he wouldn't change it, so we asked for the manager, and when he finally showed up, there was a 5-minute argument about us being charged for the extra shot. We finally got a new check, but the entire process, from asking for the check to getting our credit cards back, took over half an hour. And I repeat, there was almost no one in the restaurant. There was no reason whatsoever for the poor service we got. And after all that, we finally got upstairs, and the crowd was sparse and kind of trashy (people dancing on ledges, taking their clothes off, etc.). On the positive side: There was one bartender upstairs that really impressed me: she was fast, she made the drinks correctly, and she was nice and helpful.
Pros: Decor, outdoor area
Cons: Parking, poor service, lousy crowd, expensive drinks

DOWNTOWN STANDARD is so tacky. I saw violent and agressive Mexican gangsters there. There are no longer young profressionals and trendy people hanging out there anymore. They are all tacky people who are BUTT UGLY. 360 degrees of ugly. The drinks sucked. Go to the one on Sunset and stay out of Downtown. Don't even stay there overnight, the rooms are 90's contemporary and TACKY. Everything looks used and dirty. If the Downtown Standard has a good review, then it was written by one of their own. Listen, stay away from this tacky joint. Posh people don't go here.
Pros: IF YOU'RE UGLY, THEN YOU HAVE A HOME HERE
Cons: Disgusting and violent people.

I have been to the Standard many times as I live in Downtown Los Angeles. I usually bite the bullet and pay the ridiculous 20 dollar cover when friends come to visit because the view is that impressive. This time I went on a Wednesday evening at around 9. My friend and I were hungry and wanted to order off of the limited bar menu and so we waited by some empty (and filthy) tables for someone to come and clear them off. The place wasn't even busy. After twenty minutes of waitresses ignoring the filthy tables we shoved dirty plates to the side and sat down anyway. Then we waited another half hour for a snotty waitress to even acknowledge our presence. She took our order came back 20 minutes later and pretty much threw it down in front of us with no utensils or napkins. When we were finished I asked for the bill and watched as she chatted up the greasy bartenders and passed our table 6 TIMES while bringing drinks to others (She couldn't have just dropped the check off at our table?) Clearly she had forgotten us and I tried repetedly to flag her down and an hour later finally succeeded. When I flagged her over her response was "What?" This made me so angry..."What?" I am sorry but I thought you were my waitress "Jessica" and I thought that I asked for my check and hour ago. So she leaves and comes back 20 minutes later. I filled out the check and left her exactly what she deserved. We got up to leave and she swooped in immediately to look at the tip (funny how quickly you move when money is involved, huh Jessica?) She was not happy and so she hot footed it right behind us and said as snotty as possible "Thanks a lot guys, I reeeeaaaalllly appreciate it." I was a waitress for three years at a four diamond resort and wouldnt dream of treating people that way....The Standard should find some class, clean house and get a competent staff. Or at least make it madatory for the staff to take showers. They are all NASTY!

The Standard has ZERO standards when it comes to its staff and service. Last Saturday night my husband I were enjoying some drinks at this ridiculously over-priced bar. The night was winding down and we were ready to close our tap when in an instant a rude, trashy waitress started an argument with my husband over his drink. She tried to snatch his drink out of his hand and began to sort of shake the glass trying to spill the drink while he was still holding the glass. Needless to say she managed to poor the drink on him. Ridiculous right?! After we confronted her, she grabbed a bottle of water and poured it on us too!!! I can not begin to express my disappointment and surprise. This waitress got away with it. Management was not at around as we demanded to speak with someone. In my opinion, she should be fire, not only for disrespecting the customers but also for contributing to this place bad reputation. The Standard + POORLY MANAGED, POORLY STAFFED, INCOMPETENT AND DISRESPECTULL WAITRESS AND BARTENDERS=WORST SERVICE EVER!!!!
Pros: Great View
Cons: wORST SERVICE EVER, RUDE INCOMPETENT STAFF, POORLY MANAGED, POORLY STAFFED

we stayed at the "wow" room which was huge and very cool. but the price we paid would've expected more than just two wrist bands to the roof top bar. Roof top bar had such grdeat view but it was such a pain to bring friends over from downstairs.
Pros: Great View
Cons: Cover charge and difficult for staying guests to bring friends
