NOT VERY CLEAN
by Hungry Negro at Citysearch
I went to this with my lovely and beautiful girlfriend. I was not really into the whole tea thing, but I decided to give it a try. While we were sitting there, I was welcomed by a small insect critter (the type that begins with a "r")--this site won't allow me to type in the entire name, that was crawling on the table! I was so grossed out. Never would I go there again.
The silverware was pretty dirty as well. It was not a good experience.
Beware
- Pros: NONE
- Cons: Insect Critters galore
Great atmosphere, food portions, and tea selections

I took my mom, dad, and boyfriend here for Mother's Day and they had a blast. The service was prompt. Their portions were very generous (we even had enough food to take home) at a reasonable price of $15 per person. They even gave each mom a red rose. Its great for groups, catching up with your girlfriends, and very guy-friendly. Try their Chado Afternoon tea. Its a great mix of strong and subtle taste which makes a good pairing with their afternoon tea menu. Make sure to call ahead for reservations. Its a great modern take on an old repast.
- Pros: Good food portions, reasonable price, very guy-friendly, 0ver 300 tea selections
- Cons: Can be noisy
OK for what it is . . .

While I am impressed by Chado's massive collection of teas (over 200 varieties, all of which you may choose for your Afternoon Tea) - they are horribly watered down with barely any flavor left.
The food is decent, they have some interesting take on traditional tea sandwiches (curried egg salad, shredded chicken with cranberries, for example) and the scones & sweets are decent, but unremarkable.
So all in all, not bad - but there are better tea to be had in Pasadena area.
- Pros: not bad
- Cons: not that good either

Pasadena location of popular WeHo tea room; high tea offers traditional British-style scones, finger sandwiches and cakes; more than 250 teas served.
Great tea shop with lots of selection

Chado offers lots of teas, with an in depth description of each one. So if you like green tea, black tea, even white tea, you will not be disappointed. Since it is heating up during summer, they were even able to recommend a fruity black tea which they turned into a tasty ice tea with a few slices of strawberries. It is nice and mellow but sometimes can get quite busy, so you might want to call ahead to see what the atmosphere is like that day. If there is a baby shower group going on, you might be expecting slower than usual service. The interior is a simple wood and white scheme, with the most colorful items being their tea pots for sale.

This was my first visit to this tea room and unlike the other tea rooms that I frequent, this room was lacking the charm and ambience of a more English style place. Chado is very reasonably priced, and must be praised for their incredible tea selection. Unfortunately, serving the tea in a coffee mug type cup takes away from the beauty of a true tea experience. Despite the lack in charm, Chado offers very tasty sandwiches and the strawberries with cream were fantastic. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for the desserts. Both the carrot cake and upside down cake were dry and bland.

Scones were disappointing...crunchy on the outside and they seemed to be toasted, which is NOT how scones are supposed to be served. Also the atmosphere was not like one would expect in an English tea room...the cups and saucers were coffee shop coffee cups. The imperial earl grey tea was relatively good, as was the cranberry and salmon tea sandwiches...but these did not make up for the lack of atmosphere or decent scones. If you want an authentic experience, go elsewhere...it is worth the five or so extra bucks you would pay. If you really don't care about scones or the atmosphere, and just want to have tea without worrying about the price, come here.
- Pros: cheap, tea selection
- Cons: crunchy scones, bad atmosphere

wide selection of teas; excellent staff and delicous food. every thing was outstanding
a disappointment for afternoon tea
by suzicue at Citysearch
I've been a fan of afternoon tea for years. Hoping to find a good LA teahouse. Sandwiches were uninspired and the bread had been toasted long before it was served. Sliced strawberries were days old! The tea didn't show up until 15 minutes after the food. The clotted cream was too sweet; no butter for the scone. A combo of iffy service and poor quality food. Scone was good textured, soft, yummy. The tea was also good, but arrived too late for the meal. A disappointment.
- Pros: scones, tea
- Cons: service, food, noise
Decent tea - not that pricey
by cl_foodie at Citysearch
If you want tea service that is reasonably priced, go here. The teas come with great sandwiches - my favorite was the chicken and cranberries. This is also a great place to have a bridal shower as tea isn't too expensive - $15/person.
