Hey listen I was a BIG fan up until that experience. My mother and I went there often and spoke frequently to the owner and waiters. I'm not bitter or unable to resolve conflict, so please, spare me that evaluation. My family was treated beyond shabby and humiliated almost upon arrival. I don't think that needs a conversation. There are some words for what was missing. They're called common decency, service 101, and an apology. I'm glad some people get good service and find their experiences pleasant but they've muddied their waters with me forever.
- Cons: Bad Service
Amazing corned beef hash and pancakes!
by LaBock
I went to Cafe du Village because it was suggested by a friend. We were a group of 5. It was brunch time on a Saturday, and we were promptly seated on the lovely back patio. We all got coffee, water, and oj. I couldn't decide whether I wanted a sweet or a savory breakfast, so one of my friends and I finally chose to split two dishes: the corned beef hash with two poached eggs and a biscuit, and the blueberry pancakes. Another friend got the chicken panini, and the other two got the corned beef hash. The blueberry pancakes were to DIE for! So sweet and delicious, lightly dusted in powdered sugar. There was really no need for syrup. And the homemade corned beef hash and biscuit were amazing, but the real treat? The savory potatoes with caramelized onions and peppers. I really loved this place, and will go back as soon as I get the chance. The only complaint I heard was from the two coffee drinkers in the group. Apparently the coffee was weak, which is surprising for a French place. But they were willing to forgive Cafe du Village because the food is so awesome. I recommend it highly.
- Pros: Incredible blueberry pancakes and potatoes, corned-beef hash, fluffy homemade biscuits, and a fun French waiter.
- Cons: Weak coffee. But the food makes up for it.
Charming Larchmont Village sidewalk cafe where neighborhood families come for satisfying fare with a French accent.
by Mar Yvette
In Short
Located on the quaint pedestrian stretch of Larchmont Boulevard, this small spot is a burst of French air: Framed countryside photos and copper pots hang from the walls, while a handful of servers (with real French accents) weave their way through the fifteen or so tables squeezed inside the main dining room. The sidewalk tables, set beneath a bright red awning that's as shielding on a sunny day as it is on a rainy one, offer room for about a dozen more folks. The menu features traditional bistro fare suited for morning (French toast, eggs Florentine), noon (Nicoise salad, quiche Lorraine) and night (buttery escargot, lamb chops in mustard sauce).
Hits: Though the restaurant is open throughout the day, everyone knows that breakfast is the star of the show. Everything from the Scottish Eggs Benedict (which uses salmon instead of ham) to the blueberry pancakes is worth a try.
Misses: Snagging a table for breakfast on the weekends can be pretty brutal--and service can be slow--but hey, whattayagonnado?

"HowSaavy," your story seems exceptionally unlikely. Exceptionally. Furthermore, you're a coward for coming here to the internet with a tale such as this. Does it make you feel powerful to attack someone online? Why did you not try and work-out whatever dilemma, perceived or otherwise, directly with the Village staff? Village is one of the better casual establishments in Los Angeles, and one reason *is* the rapport of the staff and ownership with the patrons. As a gal who's been going there for many years, I can say nothing but excellent things about the restaurant and its employees/owners. "HowSaavy," methinks you need a lesson in conflict resolution.
- Pros: Quasi-Euro Atmosphere, Location
- Cons: No Hard Liquour
good service, common courtesy, class...don't look for it here.

I wish I could give it less than a star...there should be a - star rating as I this place deserves it. I had gone there tons of times in the past. Recommended it! Had a good rappore with the owner and waiters. This past weekend my mother came to town for the weekend. She and I have been there plenty of times. She was recognizable to the staff. It was our ritual before she left to have brunch there. This time we invited my brother and his wife. It was his birthday you see. Well I was running a couple of minutes late when they were seated. My brother ordered drinks 3 waters and 1 lemonade with an extra chair for me. Plenty of seating there. The waiter, who is also the owner, got loud and rudely said that they don't hold reserved seating and if they didn't order in "1 minute" (holds up his finger for all to see) than they would have to give up their seats. My brother told him I would be there shortly. "one minute" - finger in the air. He caused a scene, embarrassed my family not 2 minutes after they were seated. They hadn't even gotten a chance to look at the menu. He walked away and that's when I walked in. I sat down and my brother says, "nice place you picked". They proceeded to tell me what happened and I told them to get their things cause we are leaving. As a group WE caused a scene by getting up and leaving. The owner, managed to wrangle my mom away from us and demand payment for the lemonade that was untouched. My brother went back and got her and told her not to talk to "this guy" and that he wasn't paying for a drink he didn't touch. We left. Unfortunately it was late in the morning and we still wanted breakfast so we had to settle for a "B" rated restaurant up the street a little. But at least the service was kind. I'm one person and this was my families experience, and maybe he was having a bad day...but why is that our problem? Service is synonymous with food. I have banned this place for life. Eat there at your own risk.
- Pros: Larchmont
- Cons: Personality deficient

Lunchtime guilty pleasure
by so_adorable
If you have time to spare for a leisurely relaxed meal, this is the perfect little joint on Larchmont. The service can be rather slow, but the food is worth it. While i've never been there for dinner, their breakfast and lunch menus offer a delightful variety to choose from - and just about everything i've sampled has been delicious. If you're in a rush - you may want to consider going elsewhere - this is a place to sit back and have good conversation over a long-lasting mealtime experience.
- Pros: Food
- Cons: Service
An insect Ran Across Our Table During The Meal
by emiller301
And they didn't offer us a discount, staff is very aloof and the place is overwhelmed with kids during brunch...and that b-g (which would get the place closed down if a helath inspector was there) running across the table didn't exactly endear the restaurunt too me, and the busman/waiter didn't seem to care that it happened...not recommended at all.
Good for dinner
by oliveirt
If you go during dinnertime, there's never a wait and you can have quite a good, cozy romantic meal. During brunch it's chaos! The tables are very close together so there's no privacy at all and you must wait quite a while. The service, though very friendly, can sometimes be slow.
Loved it

This place was great- cute, great atmosphere and the food was amazing. I would highly recommend this restaurant - especially if you're looking for a reasonably priced meal.
- Pros: Inexpensive, Tasty, Atmosphere
