Did not deliver

by hungryvegan at Citysearch

I have to give Panang only one star because, I just spent over an hour waiting for a delivery that never came. When I called to see when my food might come, I was told they "would not be able to make it in time". I don't know if they were referring to the food preparation or the delivery. When I asked for clarification I was still confounded with a bunch of information about the manager not being there and she is the only one who can make it...? Finally, I was asked if I wanted to cancel the order. When it became clear that no food had yet been prepared (that I might be able to pick up), I canceled. I have to wonder why they bother taking your phone number and don't bother calling, when they have no intention of making or delivering your food. And not even an apology...

If this is how they do business, I can't imagine them staying in business for too long.

We have ordered to go once and dined in once. The food was fair to poor. We were trying out some of the new vegan options but will not be returning there again.

  • Pros: many selections
  • Cons: poor quality food and no understanding of how to run a business

Crossroad of the Far East

by aac11 at Citysearch

It was 9:30 p.m., 4th of July - and they were open. This is my first time at Panang Restaurant. Outside, their signage says "Thai Cuisine". On the windows are posters saying "Sushi Bar", "Chinese Cuisine" and "Pho". I was a bit confused but since they were the only ones open in maybe 5 square miles, so what the heck!

At the entrance across the Cashier is a small gift shop. The setup is a medium-sized diner. The waiter gave me the menu and I was astonished. Their menu covered Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Filipino and Vietnamese - the best of the Far East world. I settled for fried tofu, calamari roll and soda. The fried tofu was standard, but the calamari roll came as a surprise. Each slice had a very good quantity of calamari with a thin roll of rice. And on top of each slice is a bite-size calamari! Most sushi bars would serve you rice with calamari, but this one is truly calamari with rice! Outstanding! They even refilled my soda.

The prices are inexpensive. The waiter was very courteous and attended to each table professionally. I will definitely visit again and try the Thai menu.

awe-inspiringly terrible.

I'm serious, for the love of god, please, please don't eat there. I actually registered onto this website to decry this horrible, horrible restaurant, and i've often time dreamed of burning it to the ground as a service to eagle rock. Where to start! Pad Thai is the universal can't-fail-even-if-you-wanted-to dish, but somehow, SOMEHOW, they butchered it. I don't know if they taste what they cook, but the shrimp they added in was filthy- and bad shrimp has a horrible aroma to it. I had to soak my noodles in Sri Racha and lime juice just to force it down. The BBQ Spare Ribs were a devious combination of stench and spices, to a point where i felt like i was eating marinated dung. I truly, truly detest this place, and the fact that this restaurant is still open only reflects the culinary retardation of americans towards ethnic food. please, PLEASE let this restaurant bankrupt. for the children. their sushi is over-priced and mediocre.

  • Pros: delivers
  • Cons: wouldn't wish this food on Hitler

Great and inexpensive!

by evolvdesign at Citysearch

Since it is just down the street from me, I go here from time to time. Pretty quiet. Decor is slightly tacky, it still has part of it's diner charm from it's previous owner. Sushi, is not so good. But I do recomment the Spring rolls, yellow curry, satay, coconut soup (thom ka gai) and pad thai. You can't really mess that up.

  • Pros: Always a seat, never crowded
  • Cons: They sell wierd odds and ends in the front.

Boring Food & Beef like Rubber! Could be Worse - but Not by Much! Much Better Choices in the surrounding area.

by sedababe at Citysearch

I should have thought twice as I have a Thai friend that works in the vicinity of the restaurant and when I had asked him months ago if the restaurant was good he made a face like it was not. I guess I wanted to see for myself.

I've had my fair share of Thai food and mostly it has been a good experience, unfortunately last night was not one of them. I ordered to go the Pad Pick King (stir fried green beans in chili sauce) with tofu which was very plain and completely under cooked. I swear the vegetables were practically raw. Also ordered Pad See Ew with beef which was very bland and tasteless and to make matters worse the beef was not edible, it tasted like a rubber tire. The quality of the beef and the over cooking of it in combination resulted in a dish that was a complete waste & was thrown in the trash. Also ordered Pad Kee Mao with beef which had a bit more flavor to it but again it was ruined by the beef that wasn't suited for the neighbors dog. Should have ordered it with Tofu! Also ordered brown rice and the dessert sticky rice which along with the Tom Yum chicken soup were the only items which get an average rating of being ok.

I was so upset that I called and spoke to the owner and asked if they had a new chef which she replied no it was the same one they have always had. I then asked where the chef was from thinking he may not even be Thai considering they have Sushi on the menu. She said he is from Bangkok, so who knows. I explained to her how bad the two beef dishes were and she said that it should not be that way and that next time to be sure to remind her so she can mention it to the chef, apparently to prevent it from happening again. Well I got news for her after spending $40 on dinner and not being able to eat more than half of it there isn't going to be a next time.

Lively Eagle Rock Thai spot offers piquant seafood and extravagant sushi rolls.

by Martha Burr at Citysearch

In Short
This busy and popular Thai hangout on Colorado features a new gleaming five-seat sushi bar and adjacent outdoor patio replete with twining mandevilla vines and cheerful umbrellas. The spacious dining room boasts cerulean blue-vinyl booths, white tablecloths, and fun, psychedelic Thai Op-art. Young hipsters and families gather for specialties like crabs with mint leaves, salmon with tamarind, and tangerine shrimp. The extensive sushi menu features traditional sushi and sashimi, over 30 types of rolls including the "crunch" roll, with shrimp tempura and crab.

Stepping into the Panang Restaurant in Eagle Rock is like stepping into a local restaurant in Thailand. Real Thais do the cooking. No local college students or actors waiting on tables. The food in fresh, delicious, and plentiful. Come hungry. Service is very friendly and attentive. It's now a favordite restaurant in Eagle Rock. Have not tried sushi yet, but it looks good.

  • Pros: Food Quality and Quantity, Service, Roominess of Restaurant
  • Cons: Come early for dinner on weekends for offstreete parking

Good Thai in Eagle Rock

by skshop at Citysearch

We're kinda lazy when it comes to traveling to go out to dinner, so we generally eat in Eagle Rock. We really like this place. Food and service are both good, and take out orders are quick too. The soups are excellent, and as mentioned in the previous review, the spring rolls are wonderful. The portions are just right. Recently they added sushi, and it is as good as any upscale place, and we've tried the expensive places. We don't have anything negative to say about the place, besides the inside look, which could use some paint, but we go out to eat with our mouths, not our eyes.

  • Pros: Food, parking
  • Cons: Decor

Solid standard

by netter1 at Citysearch

With all the new restaurants popping up in and around Eagle Rock, this local is a good standard for Thai. They offer the usual things like Pad Thai noodles and curries, but it's there extensive soup and hot pot selections that are impressive. Of course you can always get Tom Ka Gai but they also offer soups I've seen nowhere else. Some of their menu items are skimpy on the portions while others are over the top. The spring rolls are fresh and come with a great dipping sauce that's sweet and tangy. The service is attentive but not annoying. You can still see the remnants of the building's diner past, but if you can look past that, it's a decent place for tha weekly requirement of Thai.

  • Pros: Large menu selection, friendly staff
