Really Enjoy The Food!!
by milakuntz
I enjoy their food here. I don't know if it's also the same chef cooking as the one in Top Chef this season, but at least I like the super fast way they get the food out to you, without feeling hurried. More accurately, I think I should say that the food comes out in successions, at the perfect timing.
Spicy Tuna

Nice atmosphere. Tasty appetizers and the spicy tuna is spicy and yummy. Service is not great. For the price, the portions are good.
- Pros: Trendy Deco, tasty sushi
- Cons: Average service
bad service

We had a reservation and got sited about 10 min later. After waiting for 5 minutes for a service to come up to us, we ordered the food and had to wait 40 min for the food. The server and the hostess were rude and not happy about their job.
- Pros: ok food
- Cons: rude service
great drinks

Great food, Great service, fun place to be
Thanks for being there
A find on bustling Robertson, the inventive rolls and fun, tasty happy hour make this relaxed sushi eatery a welcome haven.

In Short
Dark-wood furniture, deep-red banquettes and Zen-inspired paintings create a stylish dining room for laid-back locals and fashionably casual couples. Out on the patio, diners watch the parade of barhoppers head to the nearby clubs of the moment. Servers are attitude-free and quick to rattle off favorite menu items. The seafood-heavy menu pairs Eastern spices and sauces with traditional Western ingredients. A favorite is the tuna trio appetizer, which features a mound of spicy toro, chunks of peppered albacore and silky ahi sashimi neatly arranged on a plate. Fat sushi rolls made with non-traditional combinations like raw scallops and fried tempura crisps are filling. Other entrees include flaky black cod topped with a wild mushroom crust, served with mashed potatoes in a pool of yellow curry. Desserts range from a decadent banana split to soothing green-tea ice cream.
bad service

The worst service ever!! rude male server whom wears his political affiliation on his shirt. Food and ambiance were great. Service very bad.
- Pros: intersting sushi
- Cons: service
Absolutely the worst service
by marot
The food is fine, but the service here is atrocious. The waiter had so much attitude he could barely stand to look at us, and he certainly couldn't be bothered to refill our water, ask if we wanted anything else, or bring another drink. I will never. eat. here. again.
- Pros: Decent sushi, though certainly not the best and not cheap.
- Cons: The worst service you will ever experience. Pricey.
Nice atmosphere, decent food, poor service
by BrotherHowie
I went on Saturday night with my girlfriend and we sat at the sushi bar. It was nice to be able to order individual pieces of sushi, as she is just starting to try it. The rolls that she ordered tasted good, but the pieces were cut so big that you couldn't eat them whole. And when you take a bite of a piece, the entire contents would spill out on the plate. The pieces of sushi that I had - salmon, hamachi, ono, maguro - were all good but not great.
On the service side, we were constantly having to ask for our waiter, on a night when it was not that busy (we were the only people at the sushi bar). When we did order items, he would try to upsell us to the next more expensive item - I ordered a $17 carafe of unfiltered sake, and he asked me if I wanted that or the $20 bottle of unfiltered sake. We ordered a salad, he asked if we wanted it with chicken (if we did, we would have ordered it that way). We ordered a Sapporo beer, he brought us the large without asking if we wanted large or small. And the best part - about 30 minutes after we ordered the sake - and ate most of our food - he said "I'm going to bring your sake out now." Too late. Usually when you order a drink with your dinner, it gets served with your dinner.
We won't be going back -- there are plenty of other good sushi places in LA...
- Pros: nice atmosphere, clean, friendly staff
- Cons: very slow service, tried to up sell us, food was average
Trendy, good food, worth the price
by foodie114
Fat Fish is a great place for a nice dinner. While the prices may sometimes seem high, the portions are reasonable for the price (especially compared to somewhere like Sushi Roku) and the food is good. The atmosphere is comfortable and the service is also good. I have yet to try something from the bar (supposedly one of the best in town), but next time I definitely will!
- Pros: Food, good atmosphere
