Not only have i been getting my hair cut from Adriana for the last 6 years I WILL NOT go elsewhere...and since i've moved to New York 3 years ago...I wait until she visits every 3 months to get a cut even if i have to cut it myself in between. I think this is the greatest salon ever...if you're looking for fun, friendly, creative, yet also professional definately go to SUGAR!! When i started seeing Adriana i was one of those people scared to get my hair cut, but since adriana is so awesome and listens to her clients wants i soon lost that fear shortly after my first cut from her. I became so confident in her artistic abilities that eventually I just started letting her cut my hair however she wanted, NEVER being dissapointed!!!! She is a true Artist. I send all of my friends to her and they all love her, i even send people off the street, in the grocery store, etc...that ask me where i got my hair did! She even has a whole crew of New Yorkers who wait for her to come!! I joined City Search just to express how wonderful SUGAR is... So all you haters just go back to where you came from...and for all you lovers, friendly ones, and artistic creators go get your hair DID at SUGAR!!!!
- Pros: everything!!!!
- Cons: none...
Unprofessional, rude, and bad haircuts

I had a female stylist at Sugar, mentioned in many reviews here, and I was abhorred at her lack of professionalism, manners, and skill. This person was late to my appointment, and then proceeded to imply that it was ME that was going to make her appointments run behind all day. There was no apology or recognition that she, the employee, was 15 minutes late to a mid-morning (not early-morning by any stretch) appointment. The then-new receptionist looked at me as if I was an out-of-vogue* insult to her supreme hipsterism, and then treated her job duties as an exasperating burden. I asked for a few highlights in my dark-blonde hair, and then ended up with orange streaks, which the hairdresser then had to "tone down." I walked out of the salon with monotoned ash brown hair. Needless to say, I was in tears - my misery intensified by the fact that it was my birthday and I was having a gathering that night at the Edendale Bar with friends I hadn't seen in years.
Lesson #1: Never get your hair done on your birthday by a new hairdresser.
Lesson #2: Friends don't let friends go to Sugar.
*FYI: I am neither old nor preppy.
- Pros: I didn't get charged a lot for my hair disaster
- Cons: service, ambience, employee skill level, basic courtesy
The SWEETEST Salon Ever

Those searching for a froufrou salon/spa experience, please look elsewhere. Sugar is stripped of any pretense. I've been going to Sugar for over three years, following Adrianna there from Rudy's, and have never walked out disappointed. As a salon, the barber-shop-like environment is cozy, chatty and fun. As for my stylist, I can only say that Adrianna has skills far beyond my (and my husband's) comprehension. Genius. Growing up in the area, I've tried them all: Jose Eber, Carlton, Crew, Rudy's, etc. The stylists I've ran into there were polite, professional and personable, but have always left me either underwhelmed or in tears. Four years ago Adrianna cut my hair for the first time, and I haven't gone to anyone else since. She even traveled while sick to do hair and makeup for my bridal party and me on my wedding day (the results of which were gorgeous). The girl has impeccable taste, killer style and skills to be trusted. And although the little corner they carved out for themselves in the Sunset Junction will be missed, their future location isn't too far away. Plus, I hear Tommy has visions of an in-house bar. Long live Sugar!
- Pros: everything: stylists. staff. environment. price.
- Cons: nothing.

Sugar Salon is RAD!! period. dot. the end. Never in all my days have I been more satisfied and thrilled with what Adrianna comes up with...she is genius. The salon atmosphere is welcoming, charming and an all around experience. To state the staff is cool is an understatement. These guys are the real deal. Crackin' tunes, great convo's, amazing hair and good times!! I've sent many of my friends to Sugar and ALL of them are hooked. Color? I went from dull to DAMN!! Cut? From blah to BANGING!! Maintanence? FREE BANGS TRIMS!!! I mean seriously, what more could you want?!
Rude and poor cuts

Terrible, terrible. Everything about this place is a disaster. Highly unskilled woman 'cut'? my hair, but seemed drugged and blabbed about her musical aspirations and burst into some off-key songs periodically. Seemed to have no idea how to style, essentially grabbed a blowdryer and crunched my hair with her hands and then attempted to freeform dry it. SAVE yourself and your hair. Don't go! A bunch of creepy friends of the employees drift through the salon, offer rude comments, and camp out in the tiny space behind where you are sitting are also a HUGE annoyance.
- Pros: obnoxious poseur staff without skills
- Cons: obnoxious poseur staff without skills
Rude Service, Snobby Salon, Avoid!

What a terrible salon! The receptionist was extremely rude to me at my visit. Saying that she was snobby does not even begin to cover it. My haircut was NO MASTERPIECE. Steer clear of this place!!!!
- Cons: Service, Ambience, Rude Staff

after reading the last review i had to counter. i've been going to Adrianna at Sugar for a year now. i will not go anywhere else. i've taken to carrying around her business card with me because strangers frequently stop me on the street to ask me who cuts my hair. she is the only hairdresser who has been able to give me bangs that lie flat due to my widow's peak. she's the best!
Worst cut I have ever had

Sugar looks cute from the outside and the inside, so one would assume that the owner, Tommy, would understand how to cut hair. I went in asking for an inch off, I came out with six inches off.
I cried my way to the car, and two weeks later I am still crying. If you want a hip haircut please do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. I aged 30 years with the cut I got (asking for layers and getting a straight across cut, then he blew it out with a diffuser, then he brushed my curly hair?!). In fact, I ended up having to get another cut to fix the shape. I joined CitySearch to save people from Sugar!
