Spa Spa Spa Spa

by bubblesla at Citysearch

I come in the early AM for my work out before work, like 730-ish.

I noticed that the spa opens at 9am and thought I would reward myself with a massage.

They had a great deal - 9am - $90!

Cant go wrong with that; put me in good spirits for work!

Equinox has a great spa also

by sk1017 at Citysearch

This is a great, upscale gym with the added convenience of a beautiful spa. The view from the spa is amazing. You can see all of L.A. from Sunset Strip. Plus, it's nice to be able to go to the spa after a workout for a relaxing mani/pedi. Jamie is awesome. You can get massages and facials, too.

  • Pros: Clean, nice staff, view, spa
  • Cons: Pricey

SCAM ARTISTS

by bettanyJ at Citysearch

I signed up for a membership almost two years ago. When my membership expired I sent a letter to cancel. They have been billing my credit card EVERY month, and will not refund me the extra charges. I have to call every month and complain to my credit card company. They are the biggest cam artists!

  • Cons: Horrible Customer Service

Cozy gym with awesome crowd and amenities

by helloplaya at Citysearch

This gym seems to be smaller compared to Westwood. There are classes I can't take because the Main Studio is really bad as far as the layout having a big pole stuck in the middle. But, when I could get there in time, I would make myself go take classes taught by knowledgeable instructors -- mind you some of them are pretty popular and you will have hard time getting through. In terms of the gay crowd, I don't think I care too much. I just ignore them you are here to work out not to pass judgment to anyone unless they offend me but so far so good. I don't plan on hanging out with them after class. Sorry dear! The crowd here -- gay or straight -- are still in much better shape than other Equinox locations I have found and def. one of the pros. The music instructors play in class is always awesome and really get your heart rate up.

Equinox gym....

by platinumeggs at Citysearch

Okay, I don't know why all of you are bitching about people at the front desk, they're not there to smile at you, the only thing that ticks me off about this gym is all the gay queens that go there to do 10 pound weights and moan like little girls, in fact thats kinda good because I can get really mad and actually channel my anger at exercising, no offense I'm not a homophobe, but when you go to this gym, you'll get sick of all the gay dudes, even if you're gay.

Another thing that ticks me off is the Elixir juice bar thats right when you walk in, guess how much a smoothie is? $3? no, $5? no, $8 you get a small smoothie for $8, are you out of your mind? Lower the prices, money doesn't grow on trees.

Another thing that ticks me off is the stupid TV's, why are they always on CNN and MTV? Turn the channel to something that doesn't make me want to smash my head upside the treadmills.

Over all good gym, clean, no fat people, chicks are hot, even at the front desk, what ever I'm bored writing this stupid thing, peace.

  • Pros: Good gym, nice people, girls are cute
  • Cons: feminine gay guys and something else, oh yea smoothies.

Greatest Gym(s) in LA

by lalivin at Citysearch

Don't listen to any of the bad reviews - I love this gym! After five gyms and eight years in Los Angeles I found a place I love. At first I was concerned that it would be overpriced for what it is, but that isn't the case. Worth every penny so long as you take advantage of everything they have to offer. Knowledgeable and nice staff, wonderful classes, clean and swank locker rooms, and a great atmosphere altogether. I highly recommend Equinox to fitness freaks who don't mind paying a pretty penny in order to avoid out-of-work actors teaching spinning classes on the side to instead get instructors and trainers who are all about the fitness industry as it should be.

  • Pros: Staff, classes, atmosphere
  • Cons: Class instructors - feel free to ask around because the good ones are amazing and the bad ones are really bad (considering what you're paying)...

Upscale, Zen-inspired gym catering to the fit professional.

by Contributor at Citysearch

The Scene
With its ultra-clean, minimalist décor and its topnotch staff, Equinox raises the bar for chain health clubs. At consistently spacious facilities, the design team continually maximizes natural light and highlights organic architectural quirks. Equipment from industry standards like Cybex and Hammerstrength are paired with high-end machinery--including one specifically designed for the company by Life Fitness. Even the piped-in music (which varies from room to room) has been thoughtfully programmed. Locker rooms are uniformly spotless.

The Workout
The in-house personal-training program--which approaches strength, balance and coordination in a cyclical pattern--is so highly regarded that some independent gyms recognize it in lieu of more established national certifications. Indeed, instructors in the top tier must have academic articles published in their area of expertise. Classes are offered round the clock and range from Spinning and yoga to more unique hybrids incorporating boxing and ballet. Many studios boast sprung floors.

Very Unprofessional

by Jah48 at Citysearch

The most Unprofessional place i have ever been involved with. My job wen i was 16 workin at Tower Records was more professional, than any of the EQUINOX gym's in Los Angeles... Not one of the So called Trainers, are even in shape. Why would you want to be trained by someone who has not a muscle on their body.. The managers at all Equinox L.A, are looking for trainers that can sell sell sell, not really train... These trainers are being told what to teach, and they dont even train that way themselves.. Who needs a clean gym anyway you are there to sweat and stink and sweat, dont be fooled by the clean atmosphere thats wayyyyyy overpriced

  • Pros: Clean
  • Cons: UNPROFESSIONAL STAFF

HORRIBLE FRONT DESK, SALES, AND MANAGER

by wittyfitty at Citysearch

So I complained to the General Manager of my gym, Carol Steen @ EQUINOX Woodland Hills, because she refused to let my guest, a family member, try out my gym facilities (without paying a 25$ fee) and she immediately cancelled my membership after I said I was going to complain to who she reports to! Never mind my initiaton fee or the monthly fee I pay upfront. She was extreemly rude and insulting so I followed-up with a complaint to their corporate office--have yet to hear back. I find it interesting how Equinox has recently spent so much in marketing their company yet continue to hire careless, inexperienced managers who don't understand the value of their customers. I suppose they don't train or teach them about the value of referrals. Essentially by her turning my guest away (+1) and canceling my membership (+1), she effectively turned her back on me signing up my entire family (+4) and my office (+16) as potential members. Fair enough if she didnt want my guest to try it out, but as a potential member she should have had the common sense to show them around and give them the membership info--instead she insulted myself and my guest. Obviously not a solution driven manager, or one who shows respect for her members. Awful service for what you pay! Wouldn't recommend EQUINOX to anyone. They'll tell you whatever you want to hear when their signing you up, then not give you the time of day afterwards (not even a tour), and treat your guests like you "picked them up off the street" which I was told is "not for the benefit of the other members." This is literally what she said about my guest!!!!

Aside from having a rude front desk clerk (Dan), and an unqualified manager (Carol Steen)... they have limited child care, dirty fitness bikes (sweat crusted on the seats from whoever rode prior), and not-so-great classes. Steam room doesn't work well either...

I hope they start paying more attention to who they hire....

  • Pros: TOWELS to Wipe off their Dirty Bikes.
  • Cons: RUDE Service: Sales, Manager &Front Desk. Bad Hours. Dirty Bikes.
