Albo-cado - WOW!

by kuwood at Citysearch

I went to Zip Fusion for a business lunch and the place, food and service was so good that business quickly turned into pure fun! Zip is an upbeat place with great food and the service was perfect. I would recommend it to anyone who is in the downtown area. I have even pledged to make it a point to take my wife back for dinner one evening this summer.

  • Pros: Convenient, upbeat and delicious!
  • Cons: Can't think of one

Lobster roll is crazy good! Friendly staff, great outside patio for a romantic dinner

by bellamusa at Citysearch

The seaweed salad is light, crunchy, and a savory mix of ingredients that you don't stop enjoying until you swallow. The lobster roll is huge and very yummy with scallions and served on top of a CA roll. Spicy tuna can unclog any sinus! The staff is friendly and they remember you. We have been going about 3-5 times a month and every time we go they bring out a new complimentary appetizer and dessert. It has a lovely patio where you can dine and feel private and relaxed. This is a hidden gem!

  • Pros: Affordable inventive and delicious sushie rolls, with great service andambience to boot!
  • Cons: NONE!! Seriously

Fusion at its most not very impressive, misleading as to discounts for happy hour

by wandernn1 at Citysearch

Went to this place last Friday night, early so as to partake of the 'discounted menu selections'. Well as this goes, happy hour didn't make me very happy. Discounts only applied to certain appetizers and only the draft beer. So bottled beer was regular price, as was any sushi or entree and surprisingly, not even a discount on the hot sake. The service from the hostess with the drinks and appetizers was attentive and courteous. However, the sushi guys were too busy crafting hordes of premade roll-bases for later maybe when the place gets busier, or maybe it was for some large crowd of people that were invisible to my untrained eye. They were slow on our orders and even forgot to make a couple of pieces. Be that as it may, the appetizers were good but kinda pricey and small. The sushi was not as good as many of the other sushi places in the surrounding area. It was alright, but since this place is in an area where good sushi might be just in the place next door to the one you're in, I would check that place next door out instead.

  • Pros: Seating and Service for drinks was good.
  • Cons: Not the best value in the area.

Cute Patio, Average Food

by leparisienne at Citysearch

I've been to Zip several years ago when the lofts haven't even broken ground yet next door. The food is good, and still is. The menu has a typical selection for a Japanese fusion restaurant, nothing out of the ordinary. The selection is common of fusion creations. The sushi is like any other sushi restaurant in the area, not horrible. Several people in my office came here regularly but have reduced their visits because of the other restaurants opening in Downtown. There is a peaceful patio enclosed by greenery, and although it's not Zen (along the lines of Japanese food/ ambience), it radiates a rustic country back-to-nature feel; it's great for the lunch breaks. During my recent visit, I notice the crowd is more Downtown residents and not so much the metropolitan locals anymore. Service is fast and friendly.

  • Pros: Great Garden Patio, Fast Service
  • Cons: Limited Street Parking, Common Menu Selection

Great for large/fun groups. If you get the party room to the right they play fun music.

by chairsto at Citysearch

I love it. They have solid sushi and an unbeatable atmosphere. It's randomly placed in the middle of nowhere downtown, but it's kinda like a little surprise. Hahaha

Zippity do ha ...my oh my what a wonderful place

by conchita666 at Citysearch

After running through a list of possible destination for sushi, we decided on Zip Fusion.Part convenience (It is located nearby in the artist district in downtown), part good ratings...we decided to give it a try. We sat in the patio which had a great ambiance and felt very comfortable. The service was efficient and friendly, we never felt like we had to flag down our server or wait for drinks, nor were we rushed. The sushi was delicious, 3 types of tuna were tasty and fresh, the BSCR roll was delicious! All the dished ordered were pleasingly presented. The menu provided a variety of options and the prices were reasonable. They serve beer, wine, sake, soju, no liquor...but have some alternatives. Al in all we look forward to returning to dine at zip fusion. A quaint place with good vibes and tasty sushi.

  • Pros: good vibes, patio, BSCR roll
  • Cons: no liquor

Beware misleading prices, bad service.

by toriwu at Citysearch

Although the restaurant is nice and the food is okay, the service is horrible. In Los Angeles there are many other restaurants that taste better, have cheaper prices, and better service.

Additionally, the menu is deceiving. Under happy hour from monday-friday 5-7, it is listed that cold/hot apetizers are 1/2 off. However, items from the sushi kitchen listed under this category, cold/hot apetizers are not included. This restaurant FALSELY advertises without any written or spoken explanation of what is excluded. They mislead you into believing certain foods are discounted and charge you full price.

Also, the waiter LOST our validation stub. We had to ask if we could order and it was difficult to get any service. Additionally, it took over 20 minutes for us to get our check.

I highly do not recommend this restaurant. It is not worth you're time or money to deal with such inconviences.

  • Pros: Food taste pretty good
  • Cons: Expensive for what it is, bad service, misrepresented prices for happy hour

Great fusion sushi

by johnvla at Citysearch

Went last night, after several visits, and this was the best yet. Tried the Cozy Shrimp appetizer - fantastic! Gyoza wrappers are wrapped around shrimp and then deep fried. And the Lobster roll was sensational - little bits of lobster in a saute of onions and other vegetables, served over a California roll.

Pricey but okay

by nono08 at Citysearch

Food is a little pricey, portions are kind of small. Drinks are good. The one on Sawtelle has karaoke which is a draw for parties.
