A bar that typifies its neighborhood, the Silverlake Lounge is a Latino drag-queen hangout Friday through Monday and a by-the-book rock club Tuesday through Thursday. If that sounds strange, it isn't--this is one place where anything goes. An always tolerant mix of hipsters and neighborhood barflies makes this a comfortable spot for everyone. Weekends are lively, to say the least. Weekday live music is on par with anything else in the city, and is occasionally exceptional with surprise performances by major acts. Regular bookings by the Fold, a club with no fixed location, deliver some of the biggest little names in local music like Eleni Mandell, the Sharp Ease and Campire Girls. The atmosphere is thick, but never overwhelming.
