This hard-to-describe resource offers a vast collection (both in database and book form) of information on how land is used across the country, as well as changing exhibits on specific aspects of that use or anything related to land in the USA (and sometimes abroad). Some recent exhibits: training locations for law enforcement set up as fake cities and houses, slides of aerial photographs of the entire coast of California played non-stop in order from North to South throughout a weekend, Cold War-era nuclear propaganda films from 6 countries, show caves around the country. If any of this sounds interesting to you, definitely get on the mailing list. All shows and access to the center are free.
