Disappointed First-Timer

by Traynorbee at Citysearch

I watched Huell Howser and heard other glowing reviews of this place, (I thought worth making the trek from Glendale) but was thoroughly disappointed. I tried my regular favorite flavor - CHOCOLATE CHIP - and found Fossleman's absolutely tasteless. I struggled to taste any vanilla. I hoped for a thick and rich texture, but this was no better than a supermarket brand.

Maybe its other flavors are better, but as far as I'm concerned, they blew it. I will not be going back. I'll stick to Cold Stone or Baskin Robbins.

Try The French Vanilla!

by frymyeyes at Citysearch

I got the french vanilla on a whim and it was the best french vanilla ice cream I have ever had. No kidding. It somehow tasted a little like root beer! I might be crazy- but it's worth tasting to find out for yourself anyway. So good!!

  • Pros: Yummy Ice Cream!!

Owner will yell at you

by chella123 at Citysearch

A few of my friends and I used to go to Fosselman's at least once a week. One of us, however, had a gift certificate for a half gallon of ice cream, so we decided to get a few of us together to go. We bought the ice cream and asked for some bowls. The OWNER of this establishment gave us a hard time about asking for free bowls, but we paid for the bowls and I even tipped him $0.40 or so. We then sat down to start eating ice cream, and in front of about 15 other people, he started yelling at us telling us that we couldn't eat in the store. The case evidently said "To go" somewhere, and why would he EVER let us buy a gallon and eat in his store. He can't charge 2.30 for an ice cream cone if everyone buys gallons.

During our usual weekly trips, we ALWAYS pay for the single scoop cones. We just thought we could use the gift certificate to enjoy some ice cream at our favorite ice cream place. I just didn't ever think I would be so humiliated in public for doing such a thing.

  • Pros: good ice cream
  • Cons: horrible customer service

Great family ice cream parlor

by plugpitch at Citysearch

This place is a family owned ice cream parlor that brings the good ole times back to life. It's small but comfortable and customer service is awesome. You can look at the historical pictures of the company on the walls and read about various articles. Ice cream is made inside the building and tastes GREAT! They offer tubs of any flavor that they sell.

  • Pros: Home made ice cream, booth seating, relaxed and homely atmosphere
  • Cons: small parking lot, too many great choices to choose from

Some of the BEST ice cream in LA

by alisonkramer at Citysearch

Last time I went I had banana praline and classic strawberry. Both were authentically flavored without too much sickly sweet sugar and rich and creamy without that Ben and Jerry's comatose after-effect. The lines can be long, but the fun array of candies and topping available at the counter are well worth it. Skip the cold stone, this place is an institution for a reason.

  • Pros: ICE CREAM, Other toppings, Ambience
  • Cons: Long lines

Places like this don't exist anymore...

by zamboni071 at Citysearch

If you're not familiar with this place, I highly suggest you check it out. They still make make ice cream there the old fashioned way. Not much has changed since they opened back in 1919 and have stayed true to their recipes. Friendly service and very reasonable prices. Best of all, great ice cream that rivals Haagen Daz!!

  • Pros: Delicious ice cream
  • Cons: only once location

Awesome Ice Cream for Years

by caligurl73 at Citysearch

I lived in South Pasadena for 16 years and I absolutley LOVED going to Fosselmans! I miss the great flavor of the ice cream and the ambience of the whole place. I try to stop when I am in the area and have a cone. Great place!

Taro, lychee, red bean & green tea, too

by phoenix_68 at Citysearch

I add my enthusiastic support to the other reviews here, but another distinguishing aspect of Fosselman's is it's acknowledgement of being located in a very Asian neighborhood. And, to that end they have flavors like red bean (although I grew up w/ it, I'm not wild about it in ice cream), lychee (tasty), green tea (good, too) and taro (odd, but my favorite)! Oh, and I love the dark chocolate and peppermint, too.

  • Pros: ice cream, interesting flavors, easy parking
  • Cons: service inconsistent

Sweet Ice Cream

by bananitabran at Citysearch

I like they ice cream b/c is very creamy & smooth, but a bit too sweet for my taste. The sherbet is great, but also a bit too sweet for me. Then again, where can I find a cold treat that is tasty but ultra-light on the sugar. Now that is a challenge!
