Good memory

by Tashi Henry at Citysearch

One day I had to catch a bus to San Diego after visiting Universal Studios and I ate some good chinese food in this place while waiting for my bus to leave. I had my young daughter with me and she also enjoyed the food plus who doesn't like hanging out in Hollywood??? Nice spot--good food only bad thing is that I live in Philadelphia.

  • Pros: Good
  • Cons: Too Far

Great food good service

by 22350 at Citysearch

Went in, late afternoon. I had one of the cheese wontons, which was decent.

I then had the beef and broccoli, which I have to say was great.

There was no fat on the meet, and the broccoli was fresh.

Not sure about the review below, maybe he ate at another restaurant.

Anyway, give it a try. Nice staff.

  • Pros: I really enjoyed the beef and brocolli
  • Cons: had to wait for the bathroom

Way below expectations

by mizoka at Citysearch

I got a Hungry Deck as a gift for last Christmas and this place was in it. The waitress actually has never seen a Hungary Deck card, so I guess either the Hungary Decks are not popular or people just don't go to these places.

I've driven by it many times, but it was the $10 card that made us try it. I always thought that it would look cool inside, because I think I've seen some photos online as well, but as we entered I was disappointed. It looks run down and cheap. The clientele was also less fashionable as I expected. But all this wouldn't have mattered if the food had been any good.

We ordered spring rolls, chicken wontons and Chinese chicken salad for appetizers. The first two were just OK and rather tasteless and were like any frozen appetizer that you can pick up at a convenience store. The Chinese chicken salad tasted very weird, almost unpleasant. It definitely didn't have anything to do with any Chinese chicken salads I've had in my life. The chicken was canned and the dressing was a bit overpoweringly salty and gingery.

We ordered the Kung Pao Chicken as entree. You would think that a place that bears the name Kung Pao at least serves up the best Kung Pao dishes in town. Well, far from it. It was bad. It had no flavor other than the salty soy sauce. It was really not enjoyable at all.

I wanted to have dessert (I know, what was I thinking, after all that?), but the waitress said that they didn't have desserts that night because they haven't received them yet (at 8 pm). Pardon me??

If I go out, I'd expect a restaurant to give me dishes that I can't make at home from my freezer in 5 minutes, let alone make it worse than I can in those 5 minutes.

Service was not at all top notch. We never got one of our appetizers (we had to ask for it after they brought out the entree), but we got charged for it twice.

Luckily, there are tons of good Chinese restaurants in LA, so we're not going to have to go back.

  • Pros: Is there any??
  • Cons: read the review

Vile. Filthy staff.

by Geschtompo at Citysearch

The waitress/bartender L.H. dug in her nose at the register without a napkin and then didn't wash her hands. Then, my order confused her - a salad and a shrimp curry. She had to ask me twice which entree I ordered. The salad and entree all came at once and was just piled on the bar. Now the horror. While stocking her bar and bending over I got to see the horrific rash of pimples across her butt and waist. Not to mention her vile pimple riddled rear. The reason I'm leaving this scathing commentary is I complained outside to a young man and staff-member who acted as if he understood my horror. He didn't even recognize me after I was there for 1 hour and I was 1 of only 6 people at the bar were HE STOOD for most of the time in between running food! Here is the worst part. He let me know that staff was AWARE of the bartender's habits and her "skin condition." That was more troubling to me than the pig behind the bar touching my food. Moreover it's worth mentioning the bartender dug in her purse right in front of me and then gave something to a kitchen girl. Then kitchen girl disappeared into the bathroom. Now I know why she was confused and not aware people were watching her. I'm no idiot. I've worked in th restaurant bar business for 25 years. Kung Pao Kitty has a systemic problem that goes far beyond one bad apple. It appears to be a culture of people that have no business touching food other than their own. This was the worst overall experience I've had in a restaurant because the problem was known and TOLERATED by the staff. Who's running this place?

  • Pros: If you're cool like the staff.
  • Cons: If you like clean food and clean people touching your food.

So so food with pleasant service

by sheshela at Citysearch

I had a craving for Chinese food and found Kung Pao Kitty on CitySearch. It happens to be very close to my apartment, so I decided to give it a try. I called to place an order for pick up and the guy who answered the phone was really friendly and helpful. When I walked in to pick up the food, a server greeted me with a smile and directed me to the bar. Although I didn't sit and eat, the restaurant had a nice, dark, relaxing atmosphere. I ordered the Sesame Chicken and Egg Flower soup. Neither dish had much flavor and I was kinda bummed because it didn't satisfy my craving for Chinese food. The chicken was moist and the vegetables in the soup seemed very fresh, but it still lacked flavor. I usually flavor my food with a little salt, but a little salt didn't even do it. I might order from Kung Pao Kitty again; however, I won't order either of the dishes that I ordered before.

  • Pros: Nice atmosphere, friendly service
  • Cons: Food lacks flavor

More than a mouthful at the Kung Pao Kitty- a review built on love

by Davidlopan187 at Citysearch

The story of my first vist to thee Kung Pao Kitty is one that I tell many a dinner party. What night is better than a night that begins with Spring Rolls served on wings of angels; sweet and sour sauce that might as well been dripped from a chinese tree of gold. And that was only the beginning. With a three dollar beer to loosen up my tie (and my date!); I had boarded the chinese gravy train with no intention to depart. The menu screamed possible entrees like the scroll thing from the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, I was stuck between and egg roll and hard place. Closing my eyes I let the powerful energy that fills the Kung Pao Kitty to guide me to my destiny. As I was told by my tattooed waitress from heaven, the power works in mysterious ways. As it turned out, we would have an unexpected guess at our feast: General Tso. My woman ( as I call her after 8 Tiger Beers!) and I tore through our meal like a starved Tiger at a Hollywood and Vine Shadow Boxing Tournament. Needless to say the Kung Pao Kitty is a a Stone to be Rollin with. To add, thanks to Kung Pao Kitty I have kicked the old habits and am happily married to my date, Starla. Thank You Kung Pao Kitty.

  • Pros: Best Bus Boys in Hollywood
  • Cons: Not Open 24 Hours... It's That Good!

It's more like Kung Pao Kitty Litter

by clarkbarnoho at Citysearch

I have eaten here a few times and always was hoping that it would be good. The name is great and the location to good too. It's not great..and the service is worse. The waitress was slow to take our order and deliver the food. She also was annoyed that we were asking questions about the menu. It could have been that they were understaffed, yet that's no excuse. The reason I gave them 2 stars is because their egg rolls are the bomb. Nice and big and plump...It takes me back to my childhood. Insanity is repeating the same behavior over and expecting a different result. It would be insane for me to go back. What a shame. I guess Location, Location, Location doesn't apply here.

Must try great restaurant.

by hearmenow at Citysearch

Great experience. Mellow, cool, classy, hip vibe- love the decor-that restaurant has some good style!

Food was great- amazing fried tofu(not greasy at all) with the yummiest dipping sauce. I had a sweet golden thai curry with veggies and shrimp and a side of rice- delicious. Mojitos were great also.

I have been craving that restaurant ever since....I will go back for sure with friends.

I was bragging about kung pao kitty to my best friend who works close by and she said, "yeah we(her law firm work associates) go there all the time for lunch- really good food."

Happy charging

by Jazzence at Citysearch

Went in last sunday and they overcharged me by $87. I was told by management that it was probably because my credit card was scanned twice. Watch those bartenders! Take only cash when you go to this place. Other than that, the food isn't that great.
