Good, not great but will take you out of a BBQ crave
by shortstackian
The food was good, not great but will get you out of a crave. The menu doesn't have enough BBQ items. The meatloaf was really good along with the mashed potatoes. The Carolina pulled pork sandwich was ok, the kids chicken littles are more like wings than littles. The lemonade taste really artificial and my kid wouldn't drink it.
- Pros: Clean, good parking situation, kids menu
- Cons: Pricey
Good, but not great BBQ
by chimmychimmycocoapops
Not quite as good as Baby Blues BBQ, but oneof the only decent BBQ joint in the Hollywood. The mains are hit-and-miss... I liked their pulled pork (moist and juicy, but lacking the smoky flavor) and their pork spare ribs. But the sausage was mediocre, as were the beef ribs.
Sides are decent. The fries are crisp and not greasy at all. The BBQ beans are smoky, tender, and flavorful. Corn bread is not the best, but adequate. I used to think this place was too expensive, but they have mellowed their prices a bit recently. Usually a BBQ combo special with 1 main and a side can be had for $9 to $11. Most of their BBQ combos on the menu (2 meats, 2 sides) are HUGE and can easily be split by two people, so justifying the $12-$18 price tag.
Drinks are expensive. Ambience is nice enough, upscale casual. Place is hardly ever crowded, and a nice joint to drop into after a marathon shopping trip at the Target next door.
- Pros: pulled pork, french fries
- Cons: can be pricey. expensive drinks.

i have to say i love me some bbq chicken, but this was truly sad. the chicken was very dry i would never go back there. also the "southern" greenbeans not so southern and they were clearly from a can. worst place ever.
Pretty darn good BBQ

I have never had a bad experiance at Zeke's. I am frankly rather surprised about the below bad services reviews. Maybe because I have only gone for lunch and it's not too busy? Either way, I usually get the rib combo plate. Beef, baby back, and spare ribs. The beef ribs are seldom greesy like most places and the spare ribs are great. With a choice of three different sauces (or none in my case) I see little to complain about. The sides are almost a meal in themselves. Good tap beer selection as well.
- Pros: Great rub, nice sides, good beer selection
Best BBQ in LA

I eat a lot of BBQ all over the country and Zeke's is on par with great BBQ that you'd find anywhere including the south. The portions were extremely generous and the pulled chicken and pork were just the right tenderness with extra sauce on the side for those who like to drown their food in sauce (my girlfriend). The sauces were also top notch in terms of the perfect ratio of spice, tang and sweetness. I also ordered the fried chicken meal which was ridiculous! The chicken had a great coating of thick breading and the boneless breasts were delicious and tender. For sides we ordered the mac n cheese, cole slaw, mashed potatoes, potato salad and chili... They were awesome. I read a number of reviews about customer service issues prior to ordering and was a bit nervous about the service I'd receive, but I guess the previous reviewers must have went into the place with a chip on their shoulder. Not only were they super cool on the phone, but my delivery location was outside of their delivery range and they were cool enough to deliver anyway. I would highly recommend Zeke's and the only comment I would make regarding improvements would be to add cornbread to the menu. Overall the place will definitely be on my top BBQ in LA list.
- Pros: Pulled Chicken, Pulled Pork, Fried Chicken, Mac n Cheese
- Cons: There really aren't any cons, but I would like them to add cornbread to the menu
Now that's what I'm talkin about!!!

Finally good BBQ. Portions are huge, my wife and I share a briskit meal. Two sides, Mashed Potatoes for sure and anything else.
- Pros: Music, Briskit,
4 1/2 stars???

Dissapointed by all the hyped reviews on this site. Sweet potato fries were soft and squishy and their $20 beef ribs were bone and sauce, and like most LA joints service was lousy. Best part was eating outside by Santa Monica Blvd.
- Cons: Too busy to treat you like a customer
Burnt Veggies Taste Like Charcoal

Another place that is conveniently located near my work. Unfortunately, like most of the other eateries around Highland-Santa Monica-La Brea intersections, the food is not so hot. The one thing I can wholeheartedly recommend is the root beer. It's delicious. But then, Zeke's doesn't make it, they just sell it. The BBQ is so-so. I would go with a pulled pork, or brisket. I'm not a huge ribs guy. It's not bad. But never eat their "grilled" veggies. Those BBQ'ers in the back like to torch the life out of the food, until it all tastes like ash. Is this some kind of macho revenge against vegetables? Does it make the BBQ more "authentic" if you incinerate the food? I've complained about it before and gotten no response. I give up. If I am forced to go there these days, because of work, I just eat the brisket, down a root beer and get on with life. Functional, but not enjoyable.
- Pros: Great Root Beer in a big bottle
- Cons: Most menu items are cremated

Lookin' for good Southern BBQ? Find it here. I forgot that Carolina BBQ sandwiches comes with coleslaw which I normally don't like. Ate it anyways and it was fab! The food was fresh and good. The restaurant was clean and the service was good. The price was fine for the quality of food. Will return many times.
- Pros: Ambience, service, food, menu, quality
- Cons: portions could be a mite larger
