So-So

by feedjamesnotwar

I don't know what happened to this one, but I honestly feel like the gem of a restaurant I thought I found years ago is really just a worthless peice of garbage.

Remarkable differences between now and then: I never had to wait just to be aknowleged, I don't recall snide waiters smirking at other patrons, and for some reason the drinks and the entrees seem to be shrinking. But maybe, that's me...and the 5 individuals who joined me but I don't think I'll be coming back anymore. Ciao!

  • Pros: Tasty Italian
  • Cons: They employ useless snobs

Wow! really disappointed!

by maybell

Hmmm sorry to say this place has gone downhill. My family and I went there for Christmas last year and it was lovely in every way.

This year we went again on Christmas Day and we couldn't have been more disappointed. I feel grateful to whomever is working on Christmas but this year we all felt like we were being punished for coming in on a Holiday. Our poor waiter took forever to even acknowledge us and by the time he did he was very impatient. The bartender must have been in a bad mood because our drinks were mini versions of what a normal drink would consist of but more expensive than what anyone would want to pay for a drink that size. The food was truly unforgettable except for the shrimp salad that was teeny tiny and $16.00

Group concencus??? NEVER AGAIN!!! If you want to stay open lose the attitude and the prices. Better yet loosen up and make your food and service worthy of what you are charging.

  • Pros: Open on Christmas day
  • Cons: tiny portions, bad service

Nothing short of perfect

by DiningExpert41

If you don?t like this place then you have no business ever going to a restaurant again. I have been to many Italian restaurants all over the U.S. and La Terza has to be in my top five. The food is authentic Italian and the hospitality is nothing short of perfect. For those of you that did not have a great experience I strongly suggest that you give it another try.

  • Pros: Great Wine Selection
  • Cons: Some Noise Polution From the Street

Once is Enough

by dgmoehn

"Unmemorable." "Solid but unexceptional." "Not the worst restaurant I've ever been to." "I'm pretty sure the waiter has forgotten we're here." "Hey, is that Queen Latifah?" These were just a few of the comments elicited by a recent visit to La Terza, a restaurant that I swear I've been to a hundred times before and as such have no reason to visit again.

It's tough to be a standout Italian, and La Terza is definitely trying to present a different menu that what is found in your typical red-sauce restaurant. What looked good on paper failed to live up to expectations, however, the execution lacking or the flavors uninspiring. Realistically, it would have been a pretty benign experience but for the service, which was pretty pitiful. Note to our server: I don't really care who you bought your mattress from, or that your ex-wife's Pomeranian was attacked by a coyote. I do care for salt, pepper, parmesan, and to get the check without having to send a busboy over to you. Thanks, guy.

  • Pros: Nobody in our party has died of any food-borne disease, yet; nice space
  • Cons: Food is okay but not great; poor service

Ok food, horrible service

by brelash

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and was extremely disappointed. The waiter barely paid any attention to us and didn't even try to be friendly. My boyfriend is Italian and tried to pronounce some of the foods in Italiand instead of helping him or being amused, the waiter just gave him a weird look and said "huh, what?" I found him rude and felt embarrassed that I'd picked this place to celebrate his brithday. Safe to say that we won't be back.

  • Pros: decor
  • Cons: food, service, $7 to park your car

Fan of La Terza

by balink76

Dear Brelash,

I'm sorry you had a bad night at La Terza on such an important night. However, I disagree with the review you've written of La Terza. I'm quite a regular and have also taken friends and clients for dinner. In all the times I've gone there, there has not been a time where my experience was less than great. The food is also similar to what you'll find in Italy. I can say this because I used to live there. Parking is also $5 for the restaurant but if you park at the hotel's valet and walk into the restaurant it will be $7. Anyway, I just wouldn't dismiss La Terza based on one bad night just like I have not dismissed Spago on one bad experience there! Smile. :-)

Good food, Horrendous customer service

by sweeteekay

The food was pretty good, but the horrific customer service will keep me from going back, and I'll be sure to tell all of my friends about it. The server spilled a full glass of Madeira all over me and my silk dress. When we summoned the manager, his reaction was not one of concern for his customer, but one of anger because I expected him to take care of the fact that my dress was ruined. He comped us for our drinks (the one that was spilled all over me) and for the dessert (which never arrived). If that's how you treat your customers, then you really don't deserve their business in a city that is chock full of excellent restaurants.

  • Pros: Good fish

Depressingly mediocre

by lvinla

I know that the Osteria and La Terza have distinctly different personalities, so I had been looking forward to seeing how they meshed at the special dinner created by Osteria's previous chefs on July 2nd.

It was tremendously disappointing. All pasta was a trifle undercooked (and in one case severely overcooked), and we all agreed that the sauces were bland. For a family, and at 65 dollars per person, we expected more. Perhaps we will revisit La Terza on a "non-guest chef night."

Something is wrong at this place...

by mhb1954

I have been to La Terza three times last summer, and it was great. I read some of the more negative reviews of late and hoped that they were wrong. They aren't. Last night we had a great reception and seating by the hostess... a lovely entrance and charming wit by a young waiter... but then, things went downhill after that. The calamari appetizer was a morass of what appeared to be calamari with a giant crawfish on top of it. We had to ask the waiter to open the crawfish... it was somewhat fishy in taste... not what I'd expect a langostine to taste like. Then our entrees... very small portions... a hand-made pasta with crab... not bad in taste, actually, but just hardly anything in quantity... it looked like an appetizer... then my special dover sole, a $39 dish... was just a piece of sole on a barren plate interspersed with a mound of spinach and decent, rich mashed potatoes... but overall... nothing exciting for taste. It didn't take us long to finish, and then we waited a long time for any sign of further service... our charming waiter was otherwise preoccupied, we never saw a second helping of bread, which had a great taste, but more would have been nice. The servers did end the meal in a lovely way, offering a festive birthday treat with candle for my birthday celebrant. So, it wasn't a total loss... but what I had craved from last summer, "good, wholesome, flavorful eats," was not to be had. For $130 I expect more... not sure if I'll go back. The place did look somewhat empty, but it was a Thursday night...

  • Pros: Nice waiter
  • Cons: Bland, unremarkable food
