European Gem!

I went to Cafe Marly on Melrose on a whim, and it is now my new favorite spot for a nice night out. It's a small and charming restaurant that has all the perks of an outdoor patio, while being indoors. Atmosphere is one thing, but we were absolutely blown away by the food. The chef takes pride in each and every one of his dishes, including specialty soups, fresh herbed salads with hints of cilantro and mint, perfectly roasted lamb chops, and a filet mignon so juicy and flavorful that it was unbelievable. An off-the-menu dessert item that should NOT be missed is the chef's "sexual chocolate," a dome of light crispy wafers, hazelnut, and chocolate. Like Nutella, but in a fine dessert form. This restaurant also serves weekend brunches, which are worth the trip.
- Pros: Amazing Food, Good Portions, Great Location
- Cons: bathroom area, can get cold
Whatever.

We d give a shot, not so good, food had no taste at all, got the crepe, expexted more flavors for a restaurant with those kind of prices. Service was inattentive but the bottle of wine was good. We were bummed out by the food, I ll wear flats and go to Ago, more yummy. I live 2 blocks away but don t think I ll be back for anything else other than a bottle of wine.
Crepes to die for!!!

Cafe Marly is one of the most charming and romantic cafes in Los Angeles. The service is impeccable and the food is so yummy it makes you want to do a happy dance in your seat. Of course the ambient atmosphere, making one feel they've been transported to a cafe along the Sienne in Paris, doesn't hurt either. The mussels are fabulous, made with tender loving care and a "just right" smattering of garlic. The Dover Sole is my absolute fave dish there, with baby carrots, blue lake green beans and homemade mash potatoes arranged on the plate so artisanally, you barely want to eat it, it looks so pretty! But I did and it made me do the happy dance in my seat mentioned above. The chilled beaujolias was so delicious with this entree as well. For desert, the nutella crepe was simply mouthwatering, with whipped cream and fresh strawberries on the side, best to eat this one while it is still warm. I requested some fresh coconut to be put in as well and the lovely chef gladly obliged and it was one of the best things I've ever tasted in my life! Chefs from Marseilles are supreme and in this restaurant, they have one of the best! Perfect date restaurant and not too pricey for the delectable food you get.
- Pros: ambient, great service, fine food
Great sauce and dessert selection
by jamesam at Citysearch
I have been there twice; once for breakfast, on a sunday. We had the eggs Benedict and some scrambled eggs. It was really fresh and served with a cup of fruits and I really loved their caramelized banana! The hollandaise sauce was really good too.
We went back with my girlfriend for dinner, it was busy but not crowded and we liked the atmosphere at night. We had the Mussels and the Chicken and for both the sauce was simply delicious, I even ask for some bread to finish the sauce in my plate;)
The dessert selection was presented on a nice tray and we liked the creme brulee and tarte tatin; we will certainly bring some friends next time.
- Pros: Food, ambience
- Cons: parking
Overpriced, not a good catch.

We came from San Francisco where we love the french food of cafe Claude, we expected something similar but like the others said it s overpriced for what you have in your plate. I do not expect american food when I go to a french place but it was what we got there. I don t understand also the TV it kills the charm of the place (never seen a TV in a french place). My girlfriend was angry because we stayed only one night in LA and choose the wrong place.
- Pros: easy to park
- Cons: price, food, TV
Good for any occasion

I like Cafe Marly on Melrose because this is the best place for any occasion.
This is the perfect spot for a date, for a romantic dinner at candlelight in the patio; Very lay back on the week end, great for a brunch with my buddies; and I really like going there on a week night to watch the NBA games in their lounge room, with a beer and their INCREDIBLE Kobe beef burger...
The owner is a young and really nice guy who is always very friendly, the food is great, the service always attentive and friendly.
I just really LOVE this place. And no, I don't find it overpriced...
overpriced, left hungry!

My husband and I went there for an early dinner and couldn't believe that they charged 14 dollars for a tiny plate of pasta that left us uninspired and hungry.
The chef was stomping around angry about something even though the place was almost empty.
I like the patio but the flat screen television lends a cheap feeling to an overpriced place.
They need to increase their portions and lower their prices.
We had to go to Amalfi afterwards for a real dinner.
- Pros: patio
- Cons: portion size, prices
Empty, I easily understood why.

Went there but didn t have the chance to have a good service there and the food was below average for a pricey french restaurant, I usually do not write a review but like the other reviews I was disappointed. Empty, we were the only one so it was weird.
- Pros: patio
- Cons: service, food, price
Love the food, the atmosphere, the service!

Had my birthday brunch here last Saturday with 9 of my girfriends and we had such a great time. They were nice to us even if we were 45 mins late for our reservation (granted there weren't many people there). Food is authentic French and very reasonable. Sit in the patio area (really warm & cozy with cabanas... great for pictures!). Our server was so gracious even when we kept asking him to take our pictures. Recommended for any occasion.
- Pros: street parking, great service, authentic french, nice ambiance
Excellent mussels in whte wine shallot cream sauce.

Nice place overall. It wasn't crowded at all for a Friday night which I appreciated because I can't stand crowded restaurants. It was a nice, cozy place, relaxed. The waiter was a very nice French guy called Eddie who I ended up chatting with for a while about France and whatnot.
My wife ordered a salad which was really not worth it...she should just have ordered a full entree. Wine's are a bit on the pricey side but they were good. Overall I want to go again but I will try other places too such as French 75.
- Pros: Good food, nice ambience, not too busy. Try the mussels in wine sauce.
- Cons: Wines a bit pricey
great place for any occasion
