L.A. sushi veterans bring Japanese regional classics like beef tempura with homemade sauce and exotic specialties (think grilled conch served in its shell) to Little Tokyo.

Pretty, Pretty Good!

by mollypsca

This was really good sushi from a lover of CA rolls, Unagi and Miso Soup. I am not the most adventurous, but I know what I like ... and that is, clean - affordable - quality sushi. This place fits the bill. In fact, I found it through citysearch and saw all of the fantastic reviews and thought, why not? So, I did and here I am adding to them. There are a couple of bad reviews, ignore them. This place is solid! There is also some REALLY cool shopping in the mall, so plan some extra time and have a look around.

  • Pros: Clean, Nice, Good
  • Cons: None

Super Fresh Fish! Better than Japan!

by osakagirl

Wow! Better than I've had in Japan and that's where the fish is coming from. How's that possible?

Started with the King Crab Sunomono appetizer is fantastic it had the sea salt flavor from the sea.

Their uni is so sweet and fresh. Love their live sweet shrimp. Most times I get the heads fried like popcorn shrimp. Their spanish mackerel is soooooo good with grated ginger and ponzu sauce.

It's on par if not better with the best sushi bars on westside which I normally pay $100+ pp at 70-80% of the price.

The owner, Tomoko dressed in blue is super friendly and is knowledgeable about food.

  • Pros: Fish Selection, Super Fresh Fish, Authentic
  • Cons: Didn't know about it earlier.

Love Love!

by vivaciousdivah

This is a really good sushi spot. Very family-oriented. Good for groups too...but if you want a nice young professional type of place...Club Sushi is the spot with wonderful prices.

Favorite Sushi Restaurant in LA

by losfelizslim

Sushi Go 55 consistently has the freshest and best-tasting fish I've had in LA. This is a traditionalist's sushi place - if you're looking for out-of-the-box bizarro rolls, go somewhere else. But for straightforward, high-quality sushi and sashimi, you can't go wrong here. I'm shocked to read stories about sub-par service - my experience is that the service is attentive without being oppressive. But it all comes down to the fish, which is where Sushi Go 55 really shines.

  • Pros: quality and freshness of fish, service, laid-back atmosphere
  • Cons: none

We are the #1 longest running family owned sushi restaurant in America. Our family helped bring sushi over to America and we take pride in the quality of our sushi.

Our chefs are highly trained and experienced. We have won several awards in Sushi for Best Sushi in two different publications and a historical Sushi Pioneer award.

If you are seeking a place with 30 fusiony rolls with creative names, this is not for you but if you truly like Japanese style sushi then our variety is unmatched with over two dozen different types of fish and seafood daily.

This is one of the best sushi bars that Little Tokyo has to offer.

by geo119r

I say that because I been going to Little Tokyo snice 1976 when its was all Japanese.. Not to many americans.. Sushi Go Go has fresh fish but most american don't know about fish being in season, so sometime your not going to get something your looking to eat, which is good because any other Sushi bar will give it to you. As being a customer your, Sushi Chef will always remember what you like to eat so he will tell you if its to your taste or will not serve it to you. .. To all of you who eat Sushi try everything this way you can enjoy the drifferent taste of fish and don't be be afraid to ask your Chef what the taste is. To the guy who order lunch to go just remember that Tempera when its put in a to go box its going to get soft because of heat that is trapped inside. Sushi Go Go is one place that I like to go to and yes Hamakawa is sorely missed, and Sushi Gen is great but small cuts if its your first time. So the next time you come to Sushi Go Go say to Tomoko she is the owner who is a good friend.

average-schmaverage......

by imurdarlinangel

Well.. I have been to my fair share of japense/seafood/sushi places from coast to coast (La, Denver, Green Bay) So let me sum this up, best as I can. The location....not bad actually, It was my first time going there so I was a little nervous since its downtown but there is a parking garage that has the 1st hour free!! and hey, in LA who passes up free parking??.. Which was great because I was on lunch, and another perk is that they let you order ahead... Makes it easy for an in and out transaction.

The actualy restaurant itself. Well, its small, Unique in its own way. First thing I noticed was the smell. Well, maybe "smell" isn't the correct word. It was more of a scent. Each sushi restaurant has its own scent, but this one was a little strong. Felt rather humid in the restaurant which was odd. Nevertheless it didn't bother me that much.

My take out sushi was ready to go when I got there waiting at the front desk, easy transaction. In and out i probably spent less than a minute in the restaurant.

The food.. Was.. Well.. for the price I paid.. pretty much average.. But overall very tasty. I think the tempura could have fried a little longer, it was more limp than crispy and they only offer a few different rolls with the lunch special. I'm personally not a HUGE fan of california rolls, their a little bland to me.

Overall.. how do I feel after eating the food?.. well I'm out $12.50 - but I can honestly say, a meal well spent. Would I go back to sushi go 55. Most def. Hopefully the tempura will be better next time. I say this restaurant is perfect for those on the go or wanting quick sushi take out.

  • Pros: hour of free parking in the garage/low prices/lunch specials
  • Cons: small menus, not a big variety on lunch specials, undercooked tempura.
