This place is more than I can really describe with a few words. You really have to see and experience it. The difference in people after they have been there for a while is so great that it inspires me. It's funny, but I have seen a variety of people become not only more confident, but more focused, aware, outgoing, respectful, cooperative, and so on. People come here, and to martial arts in general, in order to fix a particular problem. Whether it be for exercise or to be trained for a "just in case emergency".As time goes by, not only is that problem fixed, but the whole demeanor of that person has changed, for something much better than they first anticipated. Not to mention it is soooo incredibly fun!! We get to learn the secrets of the ninja and samurai of hundreds of years ago, and become better people! Funny how that works. I know that personally, I have been training there for about a year and a half, and I don't know how I ever did without it. I am stronger, faster, more aware, and more level headed than I have ever been before. And I didn't know these were things I needed to improve. Sure enough though, here I am joining the school on their trips to Japan to visit my teacher's teacher Manaka Sensei, who is that litte old man that is the complete master of this stuff without even trying. It is an honor to have him teach me whenever I have the opportunity. I love training and seeing people grow here. I recommend it to anyone and everyone! I am lucky enough to have the opportunity to see this place make my life and the life of others better than they ever thought it could be. Everyone, no matter the background, should train here.
Pros: Amazing training & experience, Ambience, & good people

I've been training at Jinenkan for coming up on two years now, and I would have to say that I have been challenged at every step, supported through those challenges by the staff and other students, and rewarded for my hard work with improved confidence, physical conditioning and skill! I had done other types of martial arts when I was younger but this one has it all, and not just martial arts. Come here to learn everything from ancient samurai sword techniques to ways to clear your mind to how to improve your awareness of life and your surroundings. I wouldn't trade my experience with Jinenkan for any gym or sport- it has changed my life!

Initially I sought out Jinenkan as a character building activity for my pre-teen daughter. I soon discovered that there were and are benifits fo me as well. This training has helped to bridge the generation gap between mother and daughter! We both train and have this awesome practice in common! My daughter and I have been training for a year and a half, and are doing things we never thought possible! My daughter has made valuable friendships, participates in Jinenkan's summer camp for kids, and has developed a stronger self-esteem! I am more confident, stronger, fit, and my body is toned from the workout! both my daughter and I have goals for black belt! Peter is an OUTSTANDING instructor. The classes are comfortable in size and diverse! Parking is no problem and there are many class times to choose from. I highly reccomend Jinenkan for anyone wishing excellent training and a better understanding of Japanese warriorship!
Pros: No where else like it in California!

Jinenkan Martial Arts is one of the only schools that focuses on Samurai era martial arts in their entirety, not just segments of it like Karate and Jiujitsu do. Also, this is not a sport, as Kendo is, and therefore training is not based on a point system and rules, but on survival. I have been doing Jinenkan for over a year, and I am in better physical shape than I have ever been in before, and I am having a great time too. Jinenkan is THE place to learn martial arts.
Pros: Very helpful staff, Efficient training, Great prices

One of the best things about Jinenkan is that you really get the feeling that the instructors are more interested in their students' progress than in the progress of their dojo, which is completely awesome given that they are extremely skilled in their respective martial arts. Indeed this is well reflected in both how Peter teaches and what Peter offers to his students. There is a class offered literally everyday to conveniently meet the needs of all his students; and if that wasn't enough, Peter also offers specialized individual personal training. For those interested in weapons, Jinenkan is one of the few (if not THE ONLY) place where there is kenjutsu (samurai sword-style) training nearly everyday on top of training with other authentic japanese weapon forms. You will be hard pressed to find another dojo that offers this much for under $100 a month.
Pros: personable staff, detailed training, great value

It is the only complete budo training in town, it includes unarmed and armed techniques. The size is not too big whic allows a personalized follow up on your training. They also offer personal training which H ave to say after trying it is very very efficient. My overall comment is : If you are interested in martial arts, this is the place!
Pros: Inexpensive, Good Parking, Complete Training

For people who wish to learn TRUE martial arts, this is the place to learn. The teachers have years of experience from Japan, and teach it very well. The style of teaching pushes you to make your body do things you wouldnt think it could. It is fun, informative, and a great workout. I would recommend this dojo to all who have an interest in martial arts.
Pros: Experienced staff, comfortable training

Training at Jinenkan is a great opportunity to learn an unusual and highly effective martial art. Peter is great - an instructor that can seamlessly perform every technique he teaches as well as explain the mindset and history behind it. You'll be surprised at how quickly you improve as a martial artist.

The hand to hand and sword combat techniques are from a system that is unique and not so saturated into our society that people can recognize and know what you are going to do next. Ive had martial arts experience from another popular style and I have to tell you, Peters class dominates my former training. If you want to be able to defend yourself, get in shape, and have fun, this is the class for you!
Pros: Friendly, Effective, Supportive

I haven't been training for long, but I can honestly say I love going to Jinenkan! It's a great stress reliever and you are introduced to a lot, even on your first day. What I like is that you don't need to be a certain rank to start using weapons. You should all check it out, you won't regret it!
Pros: Weapon variety, Combination of styles, Great sensei's
Cons: 2 hours parking limit
