Great place for a special occaision
by mercertj
Everything about this place was great. Service was excellent, the atmosphere was perfect for a nice dinner, and the food was great. I doubt anything on the menu would be bad here. I had the beef tenderloin, my gf had the veal, and we split a salad.
The valet parking was even fairly inexpensive because they validate.
I'm not much for dropping big $$$$ on meals, but for a nice evening out, I have no complaints except for the people who insist on bringing a baby into places like this. C'mon, leave your whining kids at home. Nobody who's dropping a few hundred on dinner wants to hear babies crying.
But, for the restaurant and hotel, 5 stars..... everyone was great. And for a high end dining experience (at least it is for someone like me) I really enjoyed this place.
- Pros: Ambience, Food, Service
- Cons: Patrons who bring crying babies in
Posh digs, polished people and modern American fare converge inside the W Hotel.

In Short
Relaunched in Fall 2007, this sceney spot plays host to a mix of on-the-town locals and out-of-town trendoids who like to eat as well as they dress. The main dining room--framed by panels of woven bamboo and carved coconut shells--is an imposing space of urban gloss and tropical splendor. At the center of it all is a 12-foot white sandstone bar where casual conversations and over-the-shoulder glances pick up the pace as the night goes on. The seasonal menu, created by Executive Chef Monique King, focuses on organic American fare with a touch of global flair. Signature starters include spicy tuna tartare while entrées range from sautéed wild salmon with sweet corn flan and crab salsa to Moroccan roasted chicken with saffron couscous and pickled apricots.
Hits: Unlike other trendy places, the waitstaff and bartenders don't behave as though they're doing you some huge favor simply by serving you. In other words, they're nice.
Misses: The hotel's pricey valet situation is sadly a turnoff.
Recommended: Really good food, larger-than-life decor

I've eaten here a few times as well as in the Backyard, which is the W's outdoor patio restuarant, and I have never been disappointed. The salmon salad is tasty, with just the right amount of saltiness and the heirloom tomatoes (which they seem to have year-long) are so juicy and flavorful! Food is fresh and light, which is a nice contrast to the space itself, which is sort of moody and zexy. Good place for a date or just a night when you feel like eating some good food at a really nice hotel.
- Pros: Food, ambiance, service
- Cons: $$$ valet parking
Pleasant Surprise
by bruno79
I was at the W for a birthday party with my boyfriend on a Saturday night and we stumbled into NineThirty. We were seated promptly and our drinks and water were delivered quickly. The food was amazing. Smaller portions, very fresh ingredients, seasonal items, and some guilty pleasures like pork bellies (which might have been a special that night). Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and food in general. The entire staff worked together to deliver a dining experience that made us feel like we were the only table there, even though it was packed.
Nine Thirty Rocks

This restaurant is a great place to enjoy a quiet dinner. The W hotel is a great place to begin with, and with Nine Thirty as the restaurant it fits the unique vibe that the W hotels carry off. Versatile menu with to die for appetizers. Service is always polite, and satisfying....
- Pros: Food, Wine, Romantic
- Cons: nothing
Fine dining in the Village
by alwyshungry
First couple experiences were a disaster. Horrible service, sub par food, gossipy servers near our table (when the restaurant was nearly empty) and over priced menu items. The most recent experience was one to talk about. Our food was absolutely amazing, our server attentive, funny and cute and our overall attitude was positive because we felt like we were getting what we were paying for. Don't make reservations too late night on weekends, the door guys are very rude outside the W. Try the Lamb and Salmon dishes. Stay away from the steak...
- Pros: Awesome location for Westwood Village...great server (one time)
- Cons: Past experiences very bad...
Two bad apples

Ok..but the consensus was from the 14 of us was the bar tender kept calling my friend an amatuer...(if he only knew!!) and the women in the lounge RUBY is beyond rude. Had it not been for these two people we liked it. But you don't go to dinner and drinks with friends to made to feel you are lucky to give them your money. Once again the W lacks the service outside of the hotel.
Nice atmosphere

Came here for a business dinner - great location. Since it's in the W - very nice looking crowd. The small plates were fantastic - I had the dayboat scallops and calamari salad with tangerine slices. The main entrees were a little dissapointing - both the short ribs and pork chop were mediocre. Perhaps we ordered the wrong things. Still worth it for the atmosphere.
Nine Thirty...WOW!

Amazing food and very hip, beautiful atmosphere. I had THE BEST beef short rib I've ever tasted! The ribeye, with Maytag bleu, was also quite delicious. Very fresh and unusual appetizers - mussels that arrived on a sizzling steel plank, with Meyer lemon butter. The Roasted Organic Beets, Bautista Dates and Chanterelle Mushroom Toast also were amazing. Everything we had was very delicious. Great martini menu, too. Great vibe...right next to Whiskey Blue. Highly recommended!
- Pros: Amazing Food, Beautiful Atmosphere, Great vibe and energy
swanky spot

Went to Nine Thirty before having drinks at Gerber's new bar on a Thursday with a few friends... The menu is really light and fresh, the halibut melted in my mouth. Cute bartender whipped up stiff drinks, and we ended up eating our "apple cobbler" in the outside smoking patio on a a HUGE white couch. NICE.
