Hoagies and wings

by queenfee

When they opened their new location on La Cienega BLVD I was very excited because I love Hot WINGS!. I was even more excited when I found out they Deliver until 12Am. When I called in they guy that answered the phone was sooooooooooooooooooo RUDE! In spite of his rudeness I placed My order. All was well until he told me it would take 4hours for them to deliver to me even though i'm less than 4 blocks away.Even though i know they must have a lot of orders I still felt they should have more people delivering. I felt like 4 hours was just too damn long to wait for food when my family and I were already starving so i canceled my order. You would think he would understand and be polite but instead he hung up in my face!

In effort to give them a chance to redeem themselves for the Shi**y service I placed an order in person a few weeks later. The very same person that hung up on me was making passes at me! And on top of that he got my order wrong! The wings were shi**y and they service was even shittier! For all who want good wings. Try Hot Wing Cafe on Melrose.

Used to be great 2005-now a lost cause 2007

by mike7b

Well I can honestly say that I won't be taking the drive to either of their locations for Wings any time soon nor their new 3rd location. I am sincerely disappointed that their wing quality has deteriorated. Those who recently posted negative comments unfortunately are correct in their assessment. All the glowing reviews in 2005/early 2006 were definitely earned but now so are the negative ones. I hope the owners-Akida, Bryan & Jimmy pay attention. It was a grassroots effort that brought you glowing reviews & contributed to your success. I'd hate for you guys not to make the Best of....list in 2008 but unless you can return to your original recipe for success...quality and service I won't be voting for you this year. Anyone who has eaten here from when they opened can attest to the decline in quality of wing, dry-overcooked, miniature wings and definitely poor service. I would suggest to those who have supported these guys from the beginning to be honest in their assessment so as to encourage these guys to go back to what made them a success to begin with. To those new to this joint..only the flavors are still good. It just used to be so much better. If you don't walk in with any expectations you won't be dissapointed but if you read any of the glowing reviews-YOU WILL-because you are not eating the same food we ate back then. Sorry you are at least 1-1/2 years too late. The reviews dated from Late 2006 to now are very true they are not that good anymore. There is a new wing franchise that is growing faster than a Starbucks & is going to give these guys a run for their money. The flavors are not as good but the quality of the wing is far superior. If you don't pay attention guys you won't go past 5 yrs in business. I'm harsh because I care & MISS your GOOD WINGS.

  • Pros: Sandwiches are still good

Something's amiss...

by tinkerthinker

In my opinion, Hoagies & Wings is NOT a Best of Citysearch contender. It's interesting that so many of the glowing reviews of this place are by 'users' who only have the one review.

I tried this place once for takeout and once for delivery (large order). Both times were before they opened the location on Roberston. I would say overall, the wings are just "good". They are made fresh, so they are not soggy like some wings. They do take a while to make though, so plan on waiting 15-20 minutes. They were late for the delivery too.

I have not tried any of the Hoagies, so I can't comment on that.

The Best Hot Wing of City Search?? Don't Buy It For a Minute.

by kingcold

I have never made a practice to comment, but I'm so underwhelmed, I actually took the time to sign up just to be heard. I am a HUGE fan of hot wings...HUGE! Just moved here and chose this spot solely based on the "Best of City Search" claim to fame, and apparently I know no better. Le Cordon Bleu grad? I have never seen anything quite so misrepresented. Hands down, and not one ounce of lie, these aren't any bigger than just an inch....an INCH!! The taste is below bland and beyond blah. I emphatically tell you...Do not waste your time. Trust me.

Best food in town!!!!

by bclemons1

I have been a customer of Hoagies and Wings since it opened. They have some of the best food in town. The wings are delicious (especially the honey barbeque) and they have great sandwiches too. If you are having a get together, fight party or any other social gathering I highly recommend getting a variety of wing flavors and some hoagies!!!

  • Pros: Friendly service, great lunch spot, try it once and you'll be hooked...

Horrible Service/Over Priced Food

by ltiere27

It's not all the hype that it deserves. People have different ideas and tastes for food and me and my friends didn't like the place, serivce or the food. The orders take forever and it seems like they buy cheap chicken. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone

Love it

by greatlengths

Great place for weekend grease food. Also easy to get to (cruise down Cochran or Venice) and the food stays fresh (not soggy) til you get it home. Check it out.

wings are pretty good

by wingage

this place is pretty good. i've tried all the wing flavors, but i haven't tried the hoagies so i can't rate that aspect...but i would give the wings maybe a 7 out of 10. the sauce is kind of thin (looks like they mix some kind of powder into the sauce??) and the quality of chicken that they use is below what i buy at a supermarket like ralph's (yep - ralph's has wings, foster farms). the guys that work here are genuinely nice and even though their orders take longer than you'd like, they have newspapers and tv, so it's cool.

i moved back to cali in 2004 after 7 years on the east coast, and i couldn't find any place out here that had really incredible wings. so, i bought a deep fryer and i've been making my own wings for about a year. i would put a bowl of my wings up against these guys anyday and i would always win. you might say something like homemade is always better than restaurant, but can you make a better burger at home than you can get at father's office?

like most places they probably tried harder and the wings were better when they first opened up, but seriously, if hoagies and wings are considered the best wings in socal then that just isn't saying much. look closer at the quality of chicken that they use. if they are going to charge $8 for a dozen wings, maybe they should spend the extra money on chicken that isn't so stringy. they are ok, but maybe people who love this place just haven't ever had really good wings. i go to pizza places that LA people recommend as having great pies, and some of them are decent, but some of them are not even as good as domino's in nyc. on the flip side, when i tell people to go to grimaldi's in brooklyn, they are always blown away by the pizza because it's so much better than they expected. i think i need to open up a wing joint here and put my money where my mouth is.

anyway, like i said, i like this place. but let's not get carried away by the wings. they are not great.

  • Pros: ok wings, never crowded
  • Cons: too much hype
