Meatball and French Dip Rock
by Mauronic at Citysearch
I have tried a lot of sandwich shops and I don't know of a better one in LA. You can't go wrong at Dave's.
- Pros: Top quality, super-friendly service, low prices
- Cons: Would like to see more variety in the specials
Best Sandwiches and WONDERFUL people. HANGOVER CURE!
by shanecasting at Citysearch
It's a small place but you won't find a friendlier bunch of folks and their sandwiches are phenomenal. I'm not a real sandwich lover, but they've changed me. My fave is the french dip. I'm not a big roast beef person so they make it for me with their roast turkey. It comes on a perfectly soft french roll, provolone cheese, horseradish mayo (ask for extra cuz it's divine), and the meat is soaked in au jus first before being placed on the roll. Dave also makes a mean pulled pork sandwich that he makes at home, using sometimes Maker's Mark in his sauce. The man knows his sandwiches, and if you ask him, he'll tell you about his philosophies on 'em. I'm also a huge fan of his chili...I try to go during the year when he has the chili dog in season...sooooooo yummy! I always order for my office and they are CONSTANTLY requesting that I go by Dave's to bring it in for them. One of our guys is a vegetarian so the veggie wrap seems to make him very happy. Another thing...it's the best hangover cure I've found. A french dip sammy with a smoothie (for a hangover, I suggest the everything nice smoothie...it's jam packed with great ingredients). I stumbled in there one "morning after" and walked out feeling 95% better...it was a miracle. Thank you, DAVE and company!
- Pros: Friendly service, Phenomenal sandwiches & smoothies...OOH and malts! Hangover cures!
- Cons: Small, but that's not really a con.
Lacks cleanliness

I've heard so much about this place, that I just had to try it. My first impression when I came in was "what a dump!". there was lettuce and trimmings all over the floor and counters. there were three people fixing sandwiches, cutting ingredients and charging ... all of them doing everything, so I'm not sure the hygiene was there. I kept an open mind and ordered a tuna salad sandwich. It was average at best. I was upset at myself for not leaving the place when I noticed how dirty it was. I now wonder what happens behind closed doors. It's up to you if you decide to try it, but I would not recommend this place to anyone. To be fair, I must say that the people working were very nice and friendly ... I wish I'd been looking to make friends instead of a good sandwich!
- Pros: Friendly people
- Cons: Dirty place, questionable hygiene
A great sandwich place

Sandwich places seem to be more of rarity in Los Angeles these days. You could goto "Wrongway" or one of those generic chain sandwich places, but let's face it. Who really wants to eat pressed meat?

Dave's is the sandwich place that I have been searching for years. They use all the finest ingredients and the food tastes awesome. And as the owner Dave says he wouldn't serve anything he wouldn't eat himself. The guy is really passionate about food, and it shows. (The only bad thing is that Dave is a Patriot's fan. >= / )
I highly recommend the sausage sandwich which is served only Thursday thru Sunday. This is because the sausage is made fresh and isn't available on the other days of the week. If there's no sausage, I usually get a meatball sandwich. The meatballs are meaty and the best you find anywhere. The roast beef, french dip, pastrami are also very good.
I don't particularly like tuna but every so often I find myself craving the tuna sandwich from Dave's from time to time.
Really wish this place was closer. Eagle rock is kind of far away from everything if you know what I mean. Parking can be a bit of a hassle. There's a pay lot behind Dave's, but it's usually full. The food more than makes up for it though.
- Pros: Sausage sandwiches, friendly staff, specials
- Cons: Parking, limited seating, and Eagle Rock is too far
Awesome Grub and Sensational staff
by feastorafamine at Citysearch
I work near this tiny little sandwich shop and i have grown accustomed to their delicious food. They make many types of sandys here but my favorites are of the grilled variety. The ingredients are top notch, fresh and made with care. The smoothies and fruit drinks are delicious as well. Now that i have raved about the food let me rave about the STAFF. I went in on my lunch break the other day, in a hurry i forget to get some cash as payment (Cash Only) When i pulled out my credit card and simultaneously remebered cash only at the same time as the cashier, i expected to make a quick job down the street to get some money from an ATM. Noooooo such need. The lovely cashier told me "Get us back next time" I was shocked!! Next time?? How wonderful is that? The reason they could extend me this courtesy is because they know i will be back. They understand that the food brings repeat cumstomers. All this being said you can be sure of me getting them back (In the best way) and leaving a glowing review of my favorite sandwich shop. So dear reader, give them a shot and see for yourself. You simply cannot be dissapointed.
- Pros: Many
- Cons: Not any
Dave's Chillin' and Grillin': ALWAYS a Great Decision!
by bebedee at Citysearch
Dave's is absolutely the best spot in the Los Angeles area for a sandwich or a smoothie. If you're looking for great food, fun people, and awesome service, then Dave's Chillin' and Grillin' is somewhere you should go! Parking is ample and convenient, either along the street in front or around back behind the store. When you walk in, you'll see that Dave is actually there, chillin' and grillin' like the name implies. He's a fun guy from Massachusetts who knows how to make good conversation and great food. They have an awesome autographed Family Guy Blue Harvest poster that Seth MacFarlane's crew gave them 'cause they liked their food so much! The interior is fun, and you can see your sandwich being made fresh!
Check out his tuna sandwich, loaded with veggies and with a to-die-for red pepper spread. His vegie sandwiches with hummus are great for vegetarians as well. Or if you like a bit more meat, his meatball or beef melt sandwiches pack a whole lot of food into one single sandwich. The Pilgrim is a really popular sandwich there. Think of the best post-Thanksgiving sandwich you ever made with holiday leftovers, and that's The Pilgrim.
If you're thirsty, Dave has a multitude of awesome smoothies and my personal favorite, the Chilla's! They are a tasty, blended combo of club soda and sherbet, and I recommend Lime! He doesn't always have the same sherbets, but any combo is a great combo! There's always a plain old can of Cream Soda or Coca-Cola if you think you might be too full from the sandwich, which you just might be!
So head on out to Colorado Boulevard and stop by Dave's! And go hungry!
- Pros: Food, people, service, location, price, Chilla's...
- Cons: You'll never want to make your own sandwich again!

Wow, what a good place. Had their tuna tonight for an early dinner-- nice straight up, simple tuna on great bread. I plan on going back one meal at a time and trying everything!
- Pros: Reasonable prices, customer service.
surprisingly delicious

we were in a hurry and took a chance on this little food stand and boy were we surprised by the quality of the fresh and tasty sandwiches. We wanted vegetarian that day and we ended up with a sandwich loaded with protein {hummus I think and some kind of protein smoothie that was very good. The people there are real characters.
I take all my friends here for a reason!

In LA you have some choosey people so I bring friends to Dave's. I never have to worry because If you like roast beef or if you're vegetarian to impress that one girl, you are covered by Dave. I have found myself craving his tuna melts on many occasions. He gives you many options to customize sandwiches so I choose to have it on sourdough bread with a slice of monterey jack and provolone cheese and a healthy amount of his house hot pepper spread . He knows that I enjoy a blueberry banana bash smoothy as a chaser it's a benefit of being a regular.
Great place to go for lunch!

My co-worker introduced me to Dave's Chillin-N-Grillin last year and I got hooked on their Tuna Melt with slice of pastrami. The staff is very friendly and I really like their hot line up of sandwiches! I also enjoy The Pilgrim and the sausage sandwiches.
- Pros: Thumbs up
- Cons: NONE!
