the last great place to see movies

Thanks to technical genius' like Bill Hogan this theater has one of the best sound systems in the city of L.A. If you ever have the chance to see a well mixed film in 70mm or DTS, it is highly recommended, the sound will b low you through the roof! By all accounts this is one of the last great neighborhood cinemas left, with regulars including Popeye's Dad, Jeffrey the angry critic, Gera the German volunteer and countless others. Every celebrity on the planet has visited, been a guest and/or a regular patron of this theatre including an often drunk Sean Young and occasional visit from Spielberg himself. If Cassavetes was still alive he would probably be hanging out nightly. The Aero is one of those magical places where almost anything can happen, and often does. The annual Halloween Horrorthons are an orgiastic marathon of eclectic clips, free food and frenzied audiences, with the occasional Packard short often met with groans from the elderly. You can even expect an occasional riot or two when Tom Cruise or Peter Falk show up.
Do yourself a favor and pay a visit to Clint Eastwood and Mel Brooks' favorite theatre, the Aero, where deals are made, film is projected and pretty girls are easy to pick up in the lobby.
A movie theatre from the movies

This is what movie theatres are supposed to look like, or at least used to look like. This place has a really classic feel, and is obviously a pretty significant Santa Monica landmark. They definitely offer a variety of pretty eclectic films from art house to documentary to Sleepless in Seattle. It's not always easy to find show times, and the whole thing seems to be a little un-organized at times, but none the less a veritable classic and a great stop on Montana.
