I am Senior Editor of a music and nightclub magazine and was sent out on assignment to this place to write a review for the august issue-I came alone, dressed in a cute mini dress with my CL heels and was literally ignored by the devil woman, Sarah, working the door. Each attempt to get her attention was rudely brushed off, yet she let hoards of guys in with no problem. It was only when a friend of mine who happened to be there came out to get me that she actually said to me "oh why didnt you just say you were with him?" I have never, in my 6 years of reviewing clubs have ever had such door drama! Once inside, it was obvious they werent at capacity and she was just on her door power trip. The place itself is laid-back and really fun, but the door service is so poor I dont see myself ever going back or advising others to do so. Oh and she also works the door at Teddy's-and did the exact same thing there. I know they have a job to do but her attitude is so high and mighty that it totally turned me off to the whole experience-I guess the lesson here is: better be careful who you are rude to, because you never know who they are or who they are working for!

Tropicana Night Life

OK So It was a very nice crowd when I went. It was a Wednesday night and I think it was a Jay -Z after party or something like that,

The POP's were EVERY WHERE!!! L.L. was there with her gal pal who was DJing that night, and many more Celeb's I actually went by myself and met some friends there but I had NO Problem getting in.

You must know that the Tropicana is apart of the Roosevelt hotel so you might see someone who is very casually dressed and looking like what?s going on. This might be a guest. But there are a lot of good looking girls and guys, and getting in is No problem, no need to buy a table, NO ridiculous cover, there is a more private VIP section upstairs. I went on a less crowded night and I must say the staff is GREAT!!! They are really nice. This is one of the very very very very VERY (Maybe the only one) few places that you can call and someone will pick up the phone and give you info.

I must say that there is also a very nice pool area and a great place to go TAN and meet new people and make new friend. ALOT of my frinds go to the pool in the day.

Let's face it, it is all about the crowd. Not everyday or night is created equal. I used to enjoy the Sunday circus at the rosie pool, but lately it is not a very high class crowd. A lot of plastic surgery and guys that make me feel cheap. I end up feeling like I am drowning in a sea of strippers. However, Thursday nights are great! David and David usually put together a good crowd.

• Cons: Charged me $2 for a club soda!

What a scene!

My girlfriend was in town visiting and we stayed at the Roosevelt for the night. The Tropicana, or the pool area, was full of people as early as 11am! In the day, the servers are cute in their little white outfits and there are plenty of them to help all the guests. The menu is light and refreshing with decent size portions. At night, the crowd changes into something more...lively, and the pool area fills up with all sorts of different pretty people. I do wonder what the guests with children think about the loud scene pool-side. Especially after the police entered the grounds to break up a fight at 2am, while a police helicopter circled the pool area with a spot light!! What a way to end an evening out partying in a historic Hollywood hot-spot!

Skip it at night, great for a hot day

Fun to lay by the pool and sip cocktails during the day, but I wouldn't go at night. Great for cooling off, although the crowd can be a bit snooty. Hard to get the bartender's attention.

Worst service

Atmosphere was great, worst service ever. Extremely unfriendly bartender. The bar was out of all light beer, bloody marys were awful. When we asked a waitress if we were allowed to move our pool lounge chairs into the sunlight. She said, probably not, but I'll check and let you know. She walked away, asked nobody, and never came back with an answer. Then we asked another waiter the same question, response was "find the pool boy who is smoking cigarettes somewhere." Then we placed a food order. While the ceaser salad and cocktails came out promptly, we waited 1 1/2 hrs. for a hamburger. Another unapologetic waitress informed us it wasn't her fault, that Memorial Day was bringing in more guests than they had expected. All in all, the only thing the Tropicana bar has going for it is the atmosphere. It is definitely not their prices or service.

Totally Hip and Fun

My friends booked a room as a suprise for my 25th b-day at the Hollywood Roosevelt. We are all from NYC and went to visit a friend who just moved to Cali. She had heard abou this place from friends. The pool during the day was awesome... Hanging out drinking and having a blast. We were going to go out on the town but decided just to stay and hang at the Tropicana. It was a blast.... loads of celebrities (Jesse Meclaf, Kid Rock, Bruce Willis, David Spade) All just hanging out! They were really cool too! Love this place and ended up meeting some really cool and interesting people!

The poor or lack of service, mediocre but pricey cocktails will really hurt this "hot spot". There are too many other places in LA that are way better - skip this one.

Dont Waste Your Time

If you find yourself with a desire to venture into the land of Hollywood in hopes to catch a glimpse of a celebrity. Then I recommend, the Tropicana Bar at the Roosevelt Hotel, but you'll be finding yourself doing it from afar. The decor of the Hotel is amazing and will leave you aw-struck, but the staff and the crowd is something you might find in horror story. If you find yourself looking for something new, TRUST me.....you will not be missing out with the Roosevelt. Rather, invest your time with good friends.
