Wonderful, attentive and imaginative

by newlyfree

Had the tasting menu with some friends last weekend, and it was fabulous. I have a gluten intolerance, and it can be difficult to find a restaurant that understands this dietary restriction. We called ahead and were told it would be no problem. The chef made me special alternatives for each of the courses with gluten-containing ingredients. No small feat in a pre-set 8 course meal! My friends also loved everything they were served. I was full by the fifth course but kept eating anyway! The space was small, intimate, and comfortable, a great place to go with good friends. I highly recommend it to anyone.

Best dining experience ever!!!

by batshover

From beginning to end, it was a blast. My girlfriend and I were greeted warmly by Chef Ben, who we found out later is the owner of the establishment. He made us feel so welcome, as if we were his friends from long ago. I noticed he treated everyone he interacted with the same way, between trips to his kitchen. Two servers took great care of us. Both of us ordered Ben's Tasting menu. We were treated to so many wonderful things. Butternut squash soup, striped bass, lamb chop, shrimp w/ a fantastic sauce, honey lamb and my favorite-bastilla and more. It was several delightful small courses that left us perfectly sated. We finished our bottle of pinot noir, which was a perfect temperature. Just a little cooler than room temp, as it should be. A little baklava for dessert w/ the most delicious mint tea I've ever tasted. As we walked out the door, Chef Ben hugged and kissed us both. It was truly a wonderful evening. I thank Ben and his staff from the bottom of my heart and can't wait to go back.

Tasting Menu does not work

by birdgirl

I ignored the one bad review on this site and went this weekend. Got in without a reservation but was very disappointed. Was told it was a tasting menu, and no one told us the price (which turned out to be about $35/person). My Pinot Noir was served ice-cold. I told them, but they didn't seem to be very concerned. This place is great if you are on a no-carb diet - no bread and only 1 tablespoon(!) of couscous was served. While the food was good, the tasting menu just leaves you hungry for more of the dishes that you enjoyed. I was offered more couscous because they could see how disappointed I was by only a meager tablespoon.

Please don't go here for your first Moroccan food experience. Dar Magreb or Moun of Tunis is much better and more traditional. I went to Tagine once, years ago, and it was much better then.

  • Pros: intimate space
  • Cons: tasting menu, tasting menu, tasting menu!!

Dont waste your time

by riman

We went on a Friday night . they had a set menu for $39 and they said that this was a special because it is going to be more next week

There was nothing moroccan in this dinner. Guaccamole( very Mexican), a few other small dishes . we asked them to make sure there will be a couscous dish; it was'nt even planned . The desserts were 5 one inch baclava for 5 people . My son went for a burger after dinner and we settled for a snack at home . We paid more than $ 100 for two and we left hungry and frustrated . The only positive: the service was polite

  • Pros: service
  • Cons: food( not very moroccan)

Upscale Moroccan bistro offers refined North African cuisine among brass-patterned lanterns, velvet and jazz in Beverly Hills.

by Martha Burr

The Scene
Ruby and burgundy velvet banquettes with cushions line this dark, intimate room, and leather-stamped tables are adorned with tiny flickering glass lanterns. Diners on the aisle-side of the tiny tables sit on cushioned stools. Artsy Middle Eastern photos and abstract paintings hang above well-heeled Beverly Hills locals as their conversations rise above the cool jazz and pop.

The Food
The restaurant offers an array of refined and subtle classic North African dishes. Salads, sculpted in tiny bites on glass plates, offset contrapuntal flavors and textures--carrot with preserved lemon is tangy and delicate, while eggplant is rich, cumin-spiked, smooth and smoky. Bestila, a filo pastry stuffed with savory minced chicken, dusted with powdered sugar and cinnamon, is dazzling. The half-dozen tagines--stews slow-cooked in clay pots--come with aromatic vegetables and couscous. Notable is the lamb shank, tender and pink, kissed with honey. For dessert, baklava, perhaps the best in L.A., is served with sweet Moroccan mint tea.

sexy and cool

by motelmiller

This is still a bit of a secluded place even though they got a big write-up in the LA times. It feels like you are far away from LA, the atmosphere is sexy, the food is great and everyone seems nice and very cool. Ben the chef stopped by our table with a little extra course that he served to us personally, this place is the best.

shhhHHHH!

by farfromgood

Greatest place ever. Don't tell anyone, it's already too crowded. Last time I sat next to Cameron Diaz and JT and they were bragging that they had discovered it. I think the in-crowd were here for a while, now it's my haunt. Keep it to yourself.
