Horrible, horrendous, disgusting, offensive sushi!

by purgis

The worst sushi I've ever had in my whole life!!! Everything is loaded with jalapeno and the fish is sooo NOT FRESH (maybe that's why they use so much jalapeno: to cover up the bad taste of the nasty low-quality fish). I went there with my husband and we ordered the dynamite roll, which was shockingly disgusting (both in appearance and in taste): soggy california rolls dipped in some really nasty tomato sauce and covered with a stir fry of carrots, broccoli, and scallops (everything sour and mushy). We also had some other stuff off the revolving belt (all equally horrible!). Seriously, how can the owners be so clueless? I noticed how the people sitting next to us were just as offended by the food as we were, and I even overheard one of the guys say: "this is awful".

One of only two Kaiten-style sushi restaurants in Los Angeles! Awesome!

by taipeiunderground

Don't pay attention to the person who reviewed below saying they had bad service...must have been a fluke, because I have been eating here for months now since I have discovered it and these people bend over backwards to accommodate you. Trust me.

This place can't be beat for the value. Very fresh and delicious sushi with a good selection of beer/sake, along with very friendly sushi chefs (who are more than willing to do a sake bomb with you!). Whats more, this is one of only two kaiten-style sushi restaurants (that I know of) in the city of Los Angeles. If you haven't been to kaiten-style sushi (where the plates come around on a conveyer belt around each table in the restaurant), don't judge it till you have been--it's great. It's actually the most popular style of sushi restaurant in Japan. All the commonly ordered dished rotate around for an hour (covered) and then are kicked off if not picked up (to maintain optimum freshness). And the chefs are there to make custom dishes/sushi as you like.

This is just a fun place, and if you have not been, go! You won't regret it.

  • Pros: best value, fun, delicious
  • Cons: too many choices!

DON'T COME HERE UNLESS YOU WANT DISRESPECTFUL SERVICE

by radiancelee

Much to our disappointment, we decided to give this place one final chance, after the last time they a.) ran out of food on the conveyor belt and b.) forget my order for more than 1/2 hour, and we were so wrong to come here again. At first the sushi came out at a decent rate, until a big party of 13 came and joked that we should move over to make room for their stanky asses. I was IRATE when both the head waiter and the sushi chef softly suggested we should switch tables to make room for them even though we were 3/4 done with our meal. When we were offered a puny ice cream on the house to make up for the damage, but we suggested they should comp the 2 beers instead. They flat out said "NO, we can't do that" and offered NOTHING to make up for this inconvenience and charged us FULL PRICE on top of basically asking us to leave. We left. You must be kidding. Obviously the term customer is king is not in your book. And the sushi isn't great either. I AM NEVER COMING HERE AGAIN. Terrible customer service.

Their $2 dish tastes like a $10 treat at any other restaurants

by dangarrison

Cheap food tastes stale; fresh food is too expensive. Well, somehow they defy these rules. I go there for 3 reason:

1. Great for lunch and dinner: I spend around 10 bucks for lunch (and get FULL) and it's a great environment for dinner with the family.

2. Friendly: They make me want to come back.

3. FRESH: so fresh that I can actually tell.

Highly, highly recommended.

  • Pros: Cheap, fresh, friendly environment
  • Cons: what?

Good sushi, compared to most places, get the fresh scallops!

by rpfree

I'm a total sushi snob, but you can't compare low price places like this to Sushi Nowzawa. That said, I have never had a problem here, compared to many other sushi bars. The fish is fresh, the sushi chef that I usually see there is a real pro, and it's FUN to have conveyor belt sushi! Get the scallops (not on the menu, but the best thing there), and lighten up about fish!

  • Pros: Fun, good parking, good value.
  • Cons: Very limited selection

Freshest fish for the price

by shaelis

I love this place! It's insanely cheap, but the fish is good and fresh, and the people are very friendly. It's never crowded, and I never have to wait for a table, and they validate parking.

Maybe it's not the best sushi I've ever had in my life, but it isn't really fair to compare it to Matsuhisa ~ at Matsuhisa dinner is $100+, while at Daichan I can eat and drink whatever I want and not spend $30. Their fresh scallops are amazing (they're not on the belt, you have to ask), and even the beer is cheap. I recommend this place to everyone!

  • Pros: Price, parking, no wait
  • Cons: Sake list

one of the worst

by eatwestside

so, it was not good from the beginning, but wasn't that bad before. but after the owner is changed, its horrible. First of all, sushi chefs are korean, and they dont know the real japanese sushi. They didnt have shiso leaf, and they didnt even know what yuzukosyo was. Instead they have this wierd white fish a lot on the belt, and they told me that is 'white tuna', but it is not albacore. and this 'white tuna' was the worst fish i have ever had in my whole life. I have never seen or heard of this low quality, cheap, trashy fish. Also some sushi fell apart when i picked up. wow, if you call that 'sushi', i can make that too. i dont know where and how those 'sushi chefs' had training, but they are not real. Also they make their 'sushi' with tiny amount of rice in order for people to eat more plates. There are a lot of sushi restaurants that are owned by koreans, and they usually mess up with japanese sushi, and make it their own way, but this 'SUSHI RESTAURANT' is the worst of worst. And there is no way over 26 people rates 5stars on this restaurant. Seriously.

Good for the price

by dbzkenshinfreak

It's good for the price. Sushi is cheap, so I ate it until I was sick (No joke!) After my friend and I ate, the bill came out to $23, so no complaints. I can take my people here. Sometimes, the sushi is great, sometimes its substandard, so it depends on luck.

  • Pros: cheap food, friendly staff, environment
  • Cons: not much variety, ate too much sushi
