Big things come in small packages!

Soycafe is a wonderful surprise to anyone who stumbles upon it. Squeezed into a tiny space on Hyperion Ave., this places turns out food that is big in flavor. The menu is small, but what is on there is sure to please. Great for vegetarians. Must try the soy skin! I am no health food nut, but this stuff is delicious. Love the owner and the Vietnamese iced coffee (the best i've ever had!). open for lunch until 3pm, and open for dinner at 5pm. This place is my favorite new spot in LA!

  • Pros: the food and the service!
  • Cons: it is tiny!

Super tasty, healthy, fresh and cheap!

by ck416

Rather than the typical Vietnamese fare of pho and bun, this tiny Vietnamese joint offers traditional Vietnamese sandwiches with ingredients stuffed into a small baguette with pepper sprinkled on top for a little kick. Not all vegetarian as many think, they have chicken and fish in addition to the very delicious "soy nuggets." The owner pre-prepares all of his ingredients before opening and when he's out, he's out. He also makes about 5 different homemade soymilks, including cinnamon, chai and vanilla flavoured. Delish!! The soymilk is also available by the quart to take home.

The only downside are the hours. Kind of weird. I think they're open Sunday through Thursday? and only for lunch. Call ahead to make sure they're open. I've often found myself squinting into the darkened restaurant on Fridays or Saturdays.

  • Pros: food, tiny NY-like space, the owner, homemade soymilk
  • Cons: the hours

Standing-room-only spot offers fresh, homemade soy products alongside a minimalist menu of quick Vietnamese meals.

by Kim Cooper

In Short
A microscopic storefront cafe dominated by a mural of a nursing mother, owner Viet has a clear vision for his business: Every item on the small menu must meet his exacting specifications, from the organic soy milk and ginger-drenched soy curd--both of which he makes from scratch--to the bahn mi sandwiches, morning granola, fresh pennywort drink and rice paper rolls (veggie or shrimp/pork). French-style coffee is blended with fresh soy milk for a mellower caffeine kick.
