Horrible night club! don't go!

by bernkent

So- my friends and I (4 pretty girls and 2 guys) were put on a promoter's list to get in free on a Saturday night. We were told to get there at 10 pm. After waiting for an hour, the crowd finally started moving. When we finally got to the front of the line, we were all told to pay a $20 cover each. Earlier one of the girls working said that the people on the guest list would get in free, but who knew when? Yeah- okay- so you wait for 60 minutes and then you still have to pay! yeah- that makes sense. Everyone working there had a different story and for what?! It's not even a cool club! You have to pay to sit down!

Now I should say that I refused to pay the cover because of the club's lies and did not go in; however, my friends did and they disliked the club. Did not like the music or the feel of it. We will never go back there; even if you paid us!

One star is too much for this place!

  • Cons: They lie about cover charge and guest list and there is long wait.

The best place to be on Saturday night

by wildchild323

I've only been on Saturday nights and from what I've heard the other nights aren't as good, but this place is awesome on Saturdays. I've never had to wait in line, we just go right past the line. The $20 cover is annoying and the girls at the door will make girls pay, but it's SO worth it inside. The music is pretty much the best at the Bolthouse events. This is my favorite place to go and just dance ALL night. You will practically cry at 2:30 when the club kicks everyone out, and you won't even feel the blisters on your feet, that's how good the dancing is. The dance floor is huge and the white walls/tent and high ceilings make the lighting look really cool. The people aren't as good looking as they are in the Hollywood clubs though, and you may wonder how some of them got in. Parking on Sunset can be annoying & expensive, lucky for me I have a permit that lets me park anywhere along the Sunset Strip. It's always really easy to meet guys with VIP tables who want nothing more than to give hot girls free drinks all night ;)

  • Pros: The music is the best! Great dance club
  • Cons: $20 cover if they make you pay

Black get back Part 2

by killakali03

Basically the same review as "Area" since it's owned by the same people. SBE Entertainment should be ashamed.

I have the itching feeling that I was a "victim" of racism or at the very least "colorism". My friend and I had such a problem at the clubs Area and Privilige. I mean I know how insane the L.A. club scene is, but I have never exsperienced something like this. At both venues we were "denied" entry, while our non black counter parts entered at will, as well as African American men who where with non African American females. Not once did I see one African American female gain entry to the club, regardless of how attractive or how well dressed with the exception of one and she was accompanied by a group of non African American women. We where told by one doorman that " it's guestlist only" although we had seen many people not on any guestlist enter at will as well as underage females get special wristbands to enter the club. My friend went so far as to ask the bouncers ( one African American and one Latino) and I quote " do they not let black women in" the answers or should I say non answers were very telling. The Latino gentleman laughed and then redirected us to the doorman, the African American bouncer gave us a look that I will never forget ( a knowing look)and said " well it's very selective who they let in the clubs and I really can't do anything about it, very picky choosy, a certain type." My friend then went on to say, " only light skinned women" and his reponse was a yes nod ( a certain type indeed). It's ashamed that anybody in 2007 of any race would have to be subjected to that type of treatment. Even though I can't 100% prove it I as well as my freind think we didn't gain entry into the club that night because we weren't the right color. Thankfully I am not really mad about it ( I'm offended), because if they have that type of "entry" policy I wouldn't want to party there anyway.

Secure and great host!

by soes

We had a great time,4 girls and 2 boys from Hoboken NJ visiting LA for business! We didn't pay any cover charge,Michael the bouncer welcomed us with "Good Evening and welcome to Privilege" checked our ID's and asked us to put out our cigarettes but informed us that there is a huge smoking patio inside, said "enjoy your evening" and this is so much different comparing to Les Deux where we had to pay the doorman $200 to get in plus an additional cover charge and not even a welcome......Inside the vibe was good, friendly staff, gorgeous looking waitresses in blue dresses and bouncers assisting customers and their own staff through the crowd, a busboy even told me to watch out for that mirror I almost ran into! The bartender,I think that was also a Michael even poured a little more goose in my drink after I joked with him that my drink needed more flavor...Yes, Michael was right, a big huge smoking patio which was actually the dance floor!Lemar asked us if we were having a good time which we had so it surprises us that there is so much negativity about this club!I recommend everyone to go here,we will, next time we come back!On our way out I went back to the entrance to pick up my bottle of Smart Water Michael kept for me and I realized that at this club they don't use bouncers but hosts, security hosts nd that's how we felt secured by hosts!

  • Pros: Great hospitallity, customer service and staff introduces themselves!
  • Cons: Maybe too much smokeon the dance floor/smoking patio?

Nothing special - Les Deux is much better on Tuesdays!!!

by hpprincess

I've definitely been around the club circuit and was hyped to go to Privilege on a Tuesday night. When I arrived, I realized I had set my expectations way too high. The set-up of the place was so boring that I was ready to leave within the first 1/2 hour I was there. There was nothing special about this place. Although the bartenders were decent, the crowd there was pretty lame. It seemed like a bunch of 18-22-year-olds who think way too highly of themselves. I'm sorry your rented Maserati was not pulled up first in the valet line, but really, get over yourselves!! Go to Les Deux on a Tuesday night instead!!!!

  • Pros: Bartenders
  • Cons: Tuesday night crowd, layout of the building

NEVER GO THERE!!!!! I'm banning that place

by turnandburn13

I heard about privilege and how it was trendy. I'm not Mr. Clubber with all the connections, but I know enough to get there early. Doors open at 10 and we're there. Our group was really small Me(a guy), another a guy, and a very hot girl. We are at the FRONT OF THE LINE and this pretentious bouncer kept letting in hot girls, or people that would pay him off. He let in at least 40 other people that were way BEHIND us in line. Truthfully, what's the point of even having a line if this douchebag just walks around selecting people that would pay him off???? After about 45 minutes of being at the FRONT OF THE LINE we walked away.

I heard the music they were playing and it was whack, stuff you would hear off the radio. This club is so full of itself, please stay away, and give your business to a more deserving place.

  • Pros: sadly, none
  • Cons: EVERYTHING, horrible service, pretentious, undeserved snooty attitude

Wow....Really....Never again!!!!

by tboogie777

Friday night (06/22/2007) Me and my sister arrive at Privilege around 9:45 because we were advised if you want to get in, you have to get there early. As were waiting in line I noticed that there was a total of 4 African Americans in the line, a little odd considering this is supposed to be a hip hop club. At first I didn't think to much of it because it was still early. Well after waiting in the line for an hour and fifteen minutes we finally entered the club....Oh boy. Hip Hop...Hell NO. The Dj's were wack they have no idea what "Hip Hop" is!!! I'm from ATL and when you go to a hip hop club your going to hear nothing but current music and the DJ is going to keep the crowed hype.

The only thing I can say I liked about the club is we got in for free!!!! If I would have paid to get on there I would have been really upset!!!!

So if your looking for a diverse crowed and good current Hip Hop music this is not the place for you!!!

Will not be going back....

  • Pros: Got in free
  • Cons: Terrible music, no diversity

Booooooo!

by siouxnamee

Went on a Saturday night for a friend's bachelorette party and was wary after reading some of the reviews here, but you know, what the hell- how bad could it be, right? Oh, man... this place seriously needs to get over itself. We were with a girl who knew the doorman and got us "on the list", but then they made 2 of us pay out of the six of us girls ($20 cover??? Seriously???). Inside, the place really is just a big white tent with painted white wooden floors and mediocre decor. It was so crowded at times that it was hard to move... and they allow smoking on the inside which can be sort of hazardous when it's crowded and people are drunk and careless (don't get burned!). There were way more guys than girls, and the guys that were there were not exactly desirable or subtle (sleaze alert!). I had to peel quite a few of them off of my girlfriends. I feel really bad for those who paid for "bottle service" .... they basically got a dirty white couch with the crowd spilling over into their little "vip" area. They ended up kicking out my girlfriend for being drunk (she was stumbly drunk, not throwing up or passing out or causing a scene or anything) after we had been there for less than an hour. Please don't waste your time or money.

  • Pros: some hot girls, decent security, ok drinks
  • Cons: shady doormen, rude service, poor guy-to-girl ratio, waste of money, getting treated like "little people", etc, etc, etc.
