Beautiful... in a California kind of way

by jay2002 at Citysearch

I've been hearing good stuff about the getty villa for so long, and with the need for reservations it took me a while to get there. The building was done up recently, so it looks completely disneyland in the sense that is very touched up. the Art is very interesting, the gardens are gorgeous. A great place to take young people who are not into museums.

  • Pros: Clean
  • Cons: Too clean

Beautiful

Just went here with a family member from out of town and was very impressed. Just the drive there on Pacific Coast Highway is gorgeous. The villa is beautiful with gardens overlooking the ocean and great tours!

Beautiful gardens and Greeke-style atria

by doll83 at Citysearch

I was surprised by all those beautiful Greek sculptures and arts. My favorite room exhibited ancient jeweleries, like rings, pedants, necklaces and amulets. The style of some of them is still very popular, for instance charm bracelets, lavishly decorated rings and bangles. I also loved the sculptures of ancient Greek goddesses and gods from the Greek mythology. Those who are not into ancient Greek arts and sculptures can saunter through the beautifully arranged gardens, fancy fountains and the gorgeous Greek-style atria which maintain a romantic vibe.

  • Pros: The whole setting is stunning

Renovated cultural landmark and original Getty Museum site houses expanded exhibits of ancient Greece, Rome and Etruscan arts.

In Short
Surrounded by coastal mountains and the Pacific Ocean, this world-class museum was modeled after the Villa de Papyri, a first-century Roman country home. Dedicated to the study of the classical world, it serves as home to the UCLA/Getty Master's Program, which trains young conservators and features over 1,200 antiquities in 23 galleries. Six additional areas display annually changing exhibitions. The Villa also includes a 450-seat outdoor theater, and rooms where children can learn about art hands-on.

It's amazing what $275 million will buy you!

The renovations at the Getty Villa are astounding...the Villa itself is magnificent, and the grounds look to have been lovingly crafted by artisans. The Villa Cafe has maybe the best lasagna I've ever had!

  • Pros: It's Free! It's beautiful!
  • Cons: PCH can be a nightmare in this area.

by laguy1 at Citysearch

Truly a Terrificly unique experience from antiquities to modern architecture and lavish Garden, Roman pool. an Enchanting escape out of the cityscene just minutes away. The Cafe there dishes up amazingly reasonable italian fare, desserts are good too. Great Family event Tickets are easier to get on the phone then through website.

  • Pros: Parking is easy, Great volunteer group, Ambience is super
