LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this restaurant!
by mtwashtea
This is not your usual Japanese restaurant. It is 5 steps up! The food is fresh, delicious and served in an unusally tasty manner. The servers and staff are helpful and friendly and definately aim to please. We love this place even tho it is a little pricey, it is so worth it. And it is in our neighborhood of Eagle Rock!
delicious...

Kazu (I think thats the way his name is spelled) the head sushi chef, is the best in town. I dont even have to tell him what I want - with just a few visits, he already knows what I want. And if I am feeling adventurous, I let him suprise me with one of his special on the fly creations. This is my favorite local spot. I have brought in a few dates here and they were impressed with it all.
Suprisingly GREAT!

I reluctantly suggested this place to my girlfriends for our girl's night out after reading a few negative comments on this page but felt compelled to go because I have heard that this place is actually good. I'm one to draw my own opinion. I'm glad I did! The food was delicious, the service was very attentive, and vibe was cool and no the music wasnt too loud - it was actually at just the right level. We will definitely go back.
- Pros: Quality of the Sushi, Sushi Chefs are awesome, service is friendly
How does Anybody Eat Here?
by HipsterDoofus90041
I am confused by all the back-and-forth reviews on this place, because my two trips here have both been gawd-awful. I just can't imagine any situation where this place doesn't just stink. I went once with my wife and found it to be a total let down. The sushi was no where near as good as what we're used to having either in Studio City or in Pasadena, and the atmosphere was lousy to boot. The music was too loud (we're NOT an old couple, by the way) and the whole place was just so cheesy. The second trip was against my better judgment, but was with a large group so I was out-voted. First off, NEVER go here with a large group. The waiters can't typically handle a table of 2, let alone 8 or 10. The service was atrocious, things were constantly forgotten, missed, over charged, dropped, etc. Furthermore, when one of my friends politely made note of this to the owner, he was completely unapologetic, claiming they were just busy that night... yeah our table plus one other. The place was dead! Regardless, the sushi was still gross, swimming in mayo, and everything was overpriced anyway. Take my advice, and skip this place if you're looking for a nice night out with for 2 or for 20.
yummy in my tummy

First I'd like to say I dont know where the previous people think they went to I had the exact opposite experience! The vibe was great! The fish quality is amazing and they were very open to personiling rolls for me!! I had an amazing time to put the icing on the cake they gave me a free dessert! strwberry/banana something , so MMMMM MM good.

Looking around here I don't have much to add to the already terrible reviews, other than to say they are spot on. For the life of me I don't understand what people have enjoyed here and how anybody can give it a positive rating. I'm guessing the fancy decor and high prices make people think they are getting quality. Really they're just getting ripped off.
- Pros: You can pretend you're cool spending a lot of money at a bad sushi joint.
- Cons: Actually eating here
Great Sushi in Eagle Rock!
by opusone67
My wife and I have tired many sushi restaurants in LA. Some good, alot not worth mentioning. We read an a good review in the LA Times and thought we would give it a try. We were very impressed by the service and fresh sashimi. We had a jalape?o sashimi appetizer that was delicious! I don't know of any other sushi bars in Eagle Rock and for the price, I would strongly recommend. The staff was not uptight like some J town sushi bars. We made reservations and when we arrived, our table was waiting! We highly recommend Mia Sushi. Also, great selection of Sake:)
- Pros: Service, Friendly Staff, just what Eagle Rock needed!
- Cons: not a lot of room for a large group, but good for 2 to 6 people.
No good at all

I read all the reviews and despite the numerous bad ones, thought I'd still give it a try. Oh what a waste of time and (a lot) of money.
The food was all terrible, the drink selection crappy and everything way overpriced. Beyond that, the valets try to FORCE you to use their service, despite ample parking all around. Just another way to throw away money here.
I'm upset I wasted a perfectly good night and perfectly good appetite and (lots) of perfectly good money here.
Take my word for it: IT'S NOT WORTH IT!
- Pros: ?
- Cons: Everything
GREAT FOOD,SERVICE AND ATMOSPHERE
by cuisinelover65
My girlfriend and I were in the Eagle Rock area and found a new Sushi restaurant by the name of Mia Sushi. We decided to try it and we were amazed at the friendly greeting as we entered the restaurant. We were lucky to be accommodated promtly at the sushi bar as the restaurant was busy. The sushi chef immediately greeted us and comped us an octopus salad. We were surprised at the freshness and wonderful flavor of the salad. However, we were mostly surprised at this gesture. We began looking around the restaurant and found there was a nice ambiance and a mix of college students and locals. We asked for a menu and some recommendations from our server. We were promptly recommended the Mia, Bamboo, and Double Shrimp roll. These dishes and others we ordered had a great presentation and the taste was sensational. Then I ordered chicken teriyaki and my girlfriend ordered the steak teriyaki. They both came with steamed rice, and a unique mixture of sauteed vegetables- bean sprouts, bok choi, and mushrooms. Outstanding! For dessert we were recommended the house specialty: fresh strawberry and banana tempura, with a dab of fresh whipped cream and dribbles of chocolate syrup. I couldn't believe we found such a jewel of a restaurant. We are sure to be back again!
- Pros: great sushi and service in the area
- Cons: wish it was a bigger sushi bar
Great before a girls night out
by ashamrock
I like to go to Mia's before heading out to old town for a night out. The sushi is always fresh and flavorful. I've dabbled around the menu a bit, but I keep coming back to the Mia roll and the chicken salad (a must try!). The atmosphere is upscale, but it is still comfortable and casual.
- Pros: great quality sushi
- Cons: not a lot of indoor seating
