Fresh Sushi! Awesome and Creative Rolls

by CaliMermaid at Citysearch

I always order off the Daily Specials Menu. They have alot of fresh rolls beyond the typical staples like California, Philadelphia, Spicy Tuna, etc. I love eating here. Great and entertaining service from both the chefs and servers. A definite recommend!

  • Pros: Fresh Sushi & Original and Creative Rolls
  • Cons: I wish there was a location in Orange County

An oyster pearl in the rough...

by szurheal at Citysearch

I'm almost glad this restaurant is hidden away from the rest of the Westwood strip. Neighboring the local Denny's doesn't necessariliy add to the appeal, but the food and service at this restaurant are both top notch. I've yet to experience a bad meal and have always left with memories to cherish. Their Toro and Kanpachi are beyond comparison, and for all you shellfish lovers, the oysters are one of a kind.

I actually prefer the intimate atmosphere the restaurant has to offer, rather than overcrowded sushi bars that make up in decor what they lack in flavor. Great for a date or just enjoying a good meal with friends, they cater to all your needs, including a big screen for all you sports fanatics.

With a wide selection of import beers and sake, Isshin makes it difficult to leave unhappy. For sushi connoisseurs, be sure to sit at the bar. Even the Itamae (sushi chefs) have stories to tell... one is blowfish certified and the other used to be a body builder! Get to know them and feast on delicacies not on the menu =)

  • Pros: Fresh fish daily, intimate atmosphere, great service
  • Cons: Parking is limited, valet and spend your time looking at the menu instead of street signs

No FRESH Fish!

by campatt at Citysearch

I reviewed this place on 2 separate sites, and the reviews were good but from what I saw at the restaurant they must be talking about a different place. There's no way anyone would give this place a good review. There were barely any people in the restaurant during prime dinner hours, and most importantly the fish looked like it had been sitting there for a few days (probably because no one goes to eat there and they didn't have to order more fresh fish). The environment is cheap and dingy. The only good was the service. They were very nice but probably b/c only 4 other people were there.

  • Pros: Nice people
  • Cons: No fresh fish

Excellent Prices, Excellent Sushi. Hidden gem

by mpr86 at Citysearch

I signed up with Citysearch to write about this place. Visited it with my GF today after driving by and reading the reviews. I must say that the sushi here is excellent! Everything is fresh, and compared to other places, the prices are a lot less. I regularly frequent Matsuhisa, Katsuya, Koi, Katana and many other high end sushi places, and I must say for the price, and quality, this place honestly comes extremely close.

  • Pros: Great prices, fresh fish, great atomposhere
  • Cons: Not a real negative, but: Limited parking in Westwood.

Best Sushi in LA.

by connieluvsj at Citysearch

If you are craving fresh food and service with a smile then you have to go to Isshin. Isshin is not your typical sushi chain. Once you become a regular, they will great you by your name and feel like you are in a friends kitchen enjoying a meal. I was not a huge sushi lover but ever since I tried this place , I have become a little more daring only because they is something on that menu for everyone wheather you like raw fish to Tempura. I would higly recommend it and give it a A+.

small gem near college campus

by silexelis at Citysearch

i wish i had known bout this place during my years at ucla - i like the food but i love the prices. it's pretty fair [especially compared to the pricier tengu next door]. the staff are always so nice and i recommend a lunch special if you're hoping to just 'try it out'

***SIMPLY THE BEST!!!***

by magsters at Citysearch

Family owned and operated, Isshin restaurant is hands-down the best sushi I have had in Los Angeles. The fish is always fresh and the menu is extremely extensive. Not only is the food amazing but also you get a true Japanese experience when you dine at Isshin. The staff is very friendly and the prices cannot be beat. I took my 56-year father here, who has eaten sushi from the east to the west, and I quote "this is by far the best sushi I have ever had." My father is gourmet chef, by the way. My personal favorite is the blue fin tuna! Melts in your mouth. Don't forget to try the special drinks or authentic Japanese deserts. A must try! You will never go anywhere else.

  • Pros: Fresh, Price, Ambiance

You have to try this hidden treasure!

by laurenf48 at Citysearch

This place is such a secret treasure. Settled quietly next to Tengu but beats the taste and price. The people here are so friendly and helpful, the locals come in on a weekly basis and there's even a flat screen tv for all you sports and political fanatics. Fresh flavor is off the charts. I highly recommend to anyone in for a tasty treat.

  • Pros: Friendly, Inexpensive, FRESH FOOD
