Best in LA

by braveg

I've lived in New York, Chicago and in LA. Without a doubt, Lamonica's is right there with the best of the best. Larry and Vinny's Pizza off the boardwalk in Coney Island has to be the all time best Pizza place but they've been out of business for years. Calzones are a must as are the garlic roles at Lamonicas. Don't be afraid to get sicilian style, too. It is a little "doughy" but sicilian has to be this way. Tell them you want extra sauce and sausage and you'll be fine!

  • Pros: Fast, walk right on the line, right next door to (outstanding) Mongolian BBQ if it is too crowed at Lamonicas! If you need a slice...wait!
  • Cons: Tables are small in number and in size. If you need to go to the bathroom, rethink your need. It can get a little crowded in there when the students are really hungry. 1 o

SAVE the HASSLE

by kk63

Originally from NY, I expected better. The place was dirty, tables filthy, and we had to clean our own. Value for the one topping slice was worthless. The server/cashier was a ditz. Only dough/crust, was acceptable, but the server did not put the spinach on top of our white pizza. At first we thought the dark green parsley bits in the cheese must be the spinach, but when we walked out, the server was giving others mounds of spinach and when we complained the mgr was belligerent and yelled. I don't care how many stars have gone here never again! They must be pocketing their cash only business too!!

  • Pros: crust
  • Cons: everything else

Great Pizza!

by iluvbelle

Pizza place is simple, with a good selection. They heat it up upon order. You feel like you're in NY with its decor, though they are decorated with pictures of the london subway.

I haven't been back in awhile, since the good 'ol college days. But I stop by anytime I'm in town.

  • Pros: Nice NY style pizzaria
  • Cons: No parking

Worst Service and lame attitude - mediocre pizza

by leavenworth

We have an account with LaMonica's here at UCLA. They deliver pizza to us every week. You'd think they'd be grateful for the business and try to get her on time BEFORE the seminar starts as we request they do. Today the delivery guy was half an hour late! When he showed up he wasn't the slightest bit apologetic. We asked if he was lost (you can excuse a new guy who doesn't know the campus too well) and he shrugged it off and said, "no, the traffic was bad." Well maybe if he left early (we gave them two hours from the time the order was placed) the traffic wouldn't have been so bad! Unbelievable. When we called earlier to find out where the dude was the woman taking the order (after keeping me on hold for 5 minutes) simply stated, "he left already" then hung up on me!

Oh, as for the quality of the pizza -- it's strictly mediocre, greasy, dorm room stuff you get when it's 3 AM and you have no other choice (not that they'd be open that late but you get the picture).

If you want quality, I'd suggest traveling to Echo Park for Masa of Echo Park! Now there is some tasty pizza...

  • Pros: it's hot pizza
  • Cons: terrible customer service; uncaring, indifferent attitude

Best pizza in town!

by JFBoisvert

After soccer practice, I needed to find a pizza place for the 15 kids in the back of my van. On my left, I suddenly see this pizza restaurant sign and I yell "Pizza Guys?" The answer was "Yeeeeeeeeah!" So we stopped there and I was able to feed everyone of these little monkeys for only $25. Rad!

  • Pros: Very Italian! I love it!
  • Cons: Which they would deliver...

Great pie; LONG delivery time

by gainyee

The pies are consistently excellent, but right now it's been 2 hours & 10 minutes and it's STILL not here. Shortest ever was 45 minutes, but it's usually 90.

One major drawback......

by WestwoodBob

So there I was reading the local raves about Lamonica's New York PIzza in Westwood, Ca.. So, I call them and they answer with a yes to all the major questions, ie; delivery, delivery to my area, etc. So we get the pizza designed, they take my info ,so far so good and the nice lady says to me, "Cash Only". Cash Only?. Are you serious?. How do you stay in business?. She laughed. She added that even if I ate there I would have to pay with cash.

What a waste of time!. So,while I can't comment on the food I can say with certainty that this place has to be losing business in droves.

So,if you want a delivery...make sure you can get to an Atm before it arrives.

  • Pros: are unknown because I didn't have any cash!

Best pizza in town

by elina2008

Lamonica?s Pizza by far is the best pizza in town. Try it straight out of their oven or reheat it and I guarantee it to be one of the best you've ever had and trust me, I am a pizza connoisseur.

Unbeatable pizza by the slice

by jhoolko

Growing up on the west coast with two parents from back east, I've been forced into understanding the fundamentals of New York pizza authenticity. And while it's pretty much impossible to get an authentic NY pizza in L.A., LaMonica's produces some darn good pies. The secret to really getting the best of this place is ordering by the slice. They come out of the oven perfectly crisped and wonderfully thin. My favorites are the tomato basil and the mushroom, but they offer all kinds of toppings. The crust is thin, the sauce has a good acidity to it, and the interior is appropriately gritty, nearing hole-in-the-wall status (if it weren't for all the good reviews). I like to add a garlic roll to my order, a must for any garlic-lover.

  • Pros: My favorite pizza by the slice!
  • Cons: Westwood parking is awful, cash only

Not NY, but still great

by mbaldi

I agree that this pizza is not NY pizza. But for those of us stuck on the west coast its as good as it gets. the pizza is flavorful, crispy and dirt cheep.
