Byu-ti Salon is a relaxing experience with top of the line hairstylists that know the latest, the greatest and classic favorites (like a good blowdry). They use yummy smelling product and I always leave feeling a million bucks even if I paid a reasonable price for the moviestar hair. Zen out and get beautiful at Byu-ti. Andi is my girl (online at getadamnhaircut) and she is the best in L.A.

Pros: Unbelievable atmosphere, staff and product

Cons: Westside locale makes it a trip for us Eastsiders

I feel really lucky I found this place, and would highly recommend it you anyone - and infact several of my friends have started going there after asking me " Your hair looks great where do you get it done?" Andi is my girl but I think everyone there has the skills to make you look great and hair healthy hair. Along side with their excellent treatments they are very aware of the importance of great customer service and do an excellent job at it - rewarding their clients with perks here and there and working. I've been particularly impressed with there understanding of my hair budget and working within that to get the results I want. Andi is really good with color and has taken the time to get to know me and make suggestions about what she thinks would be good for my hair and style - and she's right on. Since going there I've gotten many compliments on my color (even when it's 4 monthes grown out), it's shine and overall health , as well as it's cut. Just go there, try it and you'll see and fell why I'm raving about it.

I am also surprised by the negative reviews, so I feel compelled to tell of my great experience there for over 6 months.......i go to see Sylvia, who has been more than accommodating and understanding of what I have in mind. I like a change every-so often and she has always given me great advice and known how to really work with my style. She is very professional and passionate and knows color in and out. My red hair was stunningly rich and vibrant, and when I went back to brunette it was the loveliest shade of chili-chocolate! The rest of the staff there are also extremely friendly and professional, have always called back and reminded me of my appointments in a timely fashion. They also serve a yummy tea! And they have great incentives for their clients, including free conditioning treatments on certain days and discounts for recommendations to friends. (And no, this is not a member of the staff there........I mean, seriously :-/, these people at byu-ti have more integrity than that!). I highly recommend this salon, especially the lovely Mexicana: Sylvia!

Pros: service, professionalism, conditioning treatments

Cons: none

I found this salon a few months ago after moving to Santa Monica. I was really nervous and in desperate need for some hair attention. I have been going to Dawn and she is fabulous! First I just went in for a cut, even though my color was due for an update and she was so positive and no pressure to fix my color. So of course I went back and she did a beautiful job on my color too! I never have to wait, she is always on time and she is an absolute doll. She takes her time and you do not leave her chair until your hair is up to her prefectionist standard. I would reccomend her to anyone!

I have never written a review, but my experience here was honestly so bad that I feel compelled to. I came to have my hair highlighted and cut at this salon after reading positive reviews here on citysearch. I have never had such a horrible experience. My sole request was that I wanted the highlights to be blonde with no warm tones or hints of red as I had experienced in the past. The woman (whose name I don't remember or I would say - she had red curly hair) said she knew exactly what I had in mind and could really understand the aura of my hair. She was crazy. After two hours (skipping a free moisturizing treatment that she claimed she was going to give me for free), the highlights were finished. She asked me not to look in the mirror until she was completely done. She literally wouldn't let me look in the mirror until she was blowdrying at which point I realized that my hair was completely orange. The cut was awful. She didn't cut off the split ends but cut some really short pieces throughout. As she was blowdrying my hair straight (which I paid for), she said "you don't like it to be perfect, do you?" well, yes, when I'm paying to get my hair blown out straight, I do like it to be perfect. In the end, I had a frizzy mop of orange hair on my head, which cost well over $300. I couldn't help but cry when I left the salon. Her coworkers asked me if I was okay with my hair because even they noticed how atrocious it was, but still noone offered a discount or any sort of apology. I would recommend that everyone steer clear of this horrible salon.

Cons: service, skill, value

"Does anyone else find it odd that ALL of the rave reviews are from reviewers who haven't reviewed any other businesses? Does anyone also find it odd that all these rave reviews generally come in large # and succession after a not-so-hot review? I find this very curious." This is a quote from a previous review, and I couldn't agree with it more. It is vividly clear that this business writes its own rave reviews on this site, especially since everyone I know who has ever gone there will not be returning. We're not idiots and these types of business practices should not be allowed on this site! Anyways, I went to this salon recently with a friend of mine (before learning about its reputation through other friends), and I really could not have been more dissatisfied. I showed my stylist a picture of exactly how I wanted my hair cut, and she appeared to understand and agreed that it would be a great cut for me. However, when my cut began to reveal itself through the styling process, it became clear that she had taken too much length off the bottom and gave me uneven layers. I expressed my dissatisfaction, but she tried to reassure me that my cut was just like the picture and I just needed to practice styling it correctly. I left very disappointed after a cut that cost me over a $100. I actually went home and cried. The very next day I went to a different salon that only charges $60 for a cut and had them fix the mess I was left with. Please heed the real reviews on this site and avoid this place. Yes, the decor is cute and it's right next to Vanilla, but your self-esteem and wallet will suffer.

Pros: Decor

Cons: Everything else

I have to say I'm surprised at reviews below. I truly had the best experience at Byu-ti that I've ever had at a salon. They were warm and welcoming from the start. I was greeted like never before with a whole package. My stylist was attentive and listened and gave me exactly what i wanted. And my shampoo at the sinks was delightful. I felt transported to another place (and I needed it after a long stressful week). I left Byu-ti feeling and looking better than I have in quite some time. They were professional and gracious. Job well done!

Pros: Impeccable service

My first visit to Byu-ti salon was yesterday, 3/29. Starting with the greeting from the sweet receptionist, she was very informative and offered me a delicious hot cup of tea. My hair color was done by Christina R. and it turned out beautiful. Christina has amazing hands. In addition to coloring, she gives an awesome head massage during the shampoo. I got my hair cut from Andi S. Andi asked me a bunch a questions about the type of cut I'm looking for, my daily hair regime and helped me decide on the perfect low maintenance cut for me. All said and done. Andi gave me a fantastic cut and I'll definitely return to this salon to see both Andi & Christina again.

Pros: Knowledgeable staff, yummy smelling products, fun atmosphere

I too, was at the salon and didn't have a good experience.. First off, yes the girl below I saw her at the salon and I felt bad for her. The stylist really did not know what the heck she was doing. I had the same stylist. Luciana. She was nice, however I got the impression she didnt understand either. I told them right when I got there that I had to leave by 5:30 (I got there at 2:30 and literally it shouldnt take over 4 hours to highlight hair) and it took much longer then 4 hours and I missed my concert. Luciana had to correct her mistakes so she handed me to another lady who started doing my hair...and in the middle of doing my hair, she had another client in so she handed me to her assistant who finished the work..So, I had three stylist working on my hair...same thing as girl below, i got "$25.00" off my hair...which still was quite expensive...especially for the way it looked. Looked like a fantastic sams job to me...then I had them give me stickers so I wouldnt have to pay for parking, and the lady did not give me enough stickers and acted hesitant each time I asked her. So, I ended up paying $5.00 for parking. (due to their mistake in the first place)...I DONT recommend this salon. They all seem so amateur. The five stars listed below sounds so fake. I wonder if the employees did that!

Pros: Nice stylist

Cons: Not experience, too expensive

It's a nice looking place and the people are very nice and respectful of your time, but I had a horribly upsetting & disappointing color experience. The colorist did what she wanted, not what I wanted, no matter how many times I reiterated my desires to her and she assured me "she got it" . Apparently not. There were also 2 clients back for re-do's the day I was in, but frankly I don't have the confidence in this salon to ever let them color my hair again. They also give you $25 off your next service if you write them a good review on Citysearch, which makes it feel like they're paying for their good reviews, so to speak.

Pros: bad with color and don't communicate well

Cons: very nice people
