wine list? who needs it?
by stastheboss at Citysearch
I will be honest: I don't usually pick beer as my drink of choice when I go to a bar. In fact, I wouldn't usually stop at a place like this, being slightly intimidated by its mature, business-man style look. However, a couple of my friends work downtown and invited me out for dinner and drinks after work, suggesting we try Library Bar because they had heard so much about it, and one of them had gone for a beer tasting event there.
Needless to say, I am glad I went. I discovered some "feminine" beers and enjoyed the atmosphere. It was quiet enough to sit down and talk... in fact, there was a little nook of couches and books we sat in.. it felt comfortable and perfect after a day at work.
I made it sound like all they had was beer... this is incorrect. Along with their extensive beer list they had a collection of cutely named cocktails... one was called "the WIlly Wonka"... very cute. I am happy I had this experience here and would definitely go back.
- Pros: ambience, bartenders' knowledge
- Cons: gets crouded... but is that really a con?

Good Drinks, Good People

I came here on a whim one Saturday night with a handful of friends who were fried after finals. One friend was actually getting over stomach flu at the time but a total trooper in coming out, so in honor of her feeling less than great, we all dressed a little down in jeans and hoodies. Surprisingly, this wasn't much of a problem when we got into the Library Bar.
The bar was pretty active when we got inside. It's spacious too so it didn't seem crowded and it was easy to find a comfortable couch. Bartenders were friendly and we were all pretty happy with our drinks.
There was also a really friendly atmosphere that I liked, where you could talk and have fun with total strangers or keep it a little more tight-knit with your own group if you wanted.
A cool place to hang out overall and a watering hole that can appeal to a lot of different people.
Rude bartender!

I showed up last Friday to meet some co workers after our holiday party. They had already been there, and sure they had spend enough money, this place isnt very cheap. Sure its nice, but what came next, made it such an ugly place for me. I got my first beer, wasnt even halfway with it, when the bartender came to our group and told us to "TONE IT DOWN"!
We were having fun like everyone else was in the place, and he approached us to tell us that, as a paying customer, I was certainly ticked off at the fact that everyone else surrounding us was doing the exact same thing we were, I looked around at the whole crowd to see what we were doing wrong, I came to the conclusion that the only thing that was wrong is that we were the only Mexican crowd in the place. We finished our beers, and decided to go to nearby Casey's. Not once, were we told to "TONE IT DOWN"! Is this the way Downtown is trying to be successful, with places like this one?! Sorry but I will never go back to this place, or recommend it to anyone!
- Pros: None that I found

A few of out of state clients ,co-workers,and I went for happy hour.It was thursday evening and fairly crowded.Drinks are great and service was good too. It's a great place to go right after a long day at work.
- Pros: Great Place For Happy Hour
- Cons: Downtown Traffic
Great Happy Hour; Cozy Vibe

I like the happy hour choice of $5 margaritas or martinis. It gets pretty crowded on a Thursday with all the downtown people coming in for drinks after work. It is pretty crowded at the bar so it takes a while to get a drink but overall it is a good spot to hang out with your friends. Get there early to save a spot on the couches near the fireplace.
Great Space, not crowed

The library bar is in a great location. You have other options to choose from including The Standard across the street, Elevate Lounge around the corner, etc.
inside is very intimate, not incredibly small. though i'm not an avid reader, the book section was very good. Too bad the bar is too dimly lit to read.
I give their restrooms an +A for cleanliness and desgin. The one thing i found interesting the most is that you have to order your food from next door, which is wolfgang puck. you call them, tell them you're next door, and they'll bring you your food.
other than that, it's a cool bar. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here but it's always an option if you run out of options
- Pros: design, location, books, parking ($5 with valet underground next door)
- Cons: i sat next to a homeless guy who wouldn't stop talking to me. nice guy, but needed a shower
timing is everything

After work there are a lot of the older business folks in here, and later at night there are a lot of dudes that couldn't get into the standard. I liked this place before all of the downtown male population discovered the undiscerning door policy, and I stopped liking it when I realized all of them had just come to oogle the bartenders. The crowd is really what keeps this place down; last time I was here, there was a couple sleeping in the back room (the one with a mirror on the ceiling). I love the jukebox though, and I feel like every time I'm here, someone plays Roxanne.
- Pros: beer list, roxanne
- Cons: no girls
