Volunteers plant trees and work to restore the pollution-damaged mountains of SoCal.

In Short
Founded in 1973 by a group of teenagers, this non-profit organization offers sustainable solutions to urban ecosystem troubles. The group trains and supports communities in planting and caring for trees on school campuses, city streets and in the mountains surrounding Los Angeles. In addition, the earth-friendly bunch educates people about the environment and encourages government agencies to capture, clean and store rainwater in response to critical water issues.

My boyfriend and I planted trees at the Madrona Marsh in Torrance with treepeople and it was a really nice time. We had to leave early and no one gave us a hard time--good, low pressure situation. It's a really fun thing to do with the kids, friends or alone for a good sweat in the sun. I haven't done the full moon hikes but I'd like to!
- Pros: Great, low commitment way to volunteer
