Consistently poor service

While the owners of this awkwardly named eatery probably had high ideals opening a raw foods cafe and boutique on Main Street in Santa Monica, they have consistently missed the mark on service. Inexcusably slow service, poor attitude of staff and often totally clueless staff has been the norm. I have been here over a dozen times since they opened a few years ago and have seen them change their menu and layout several times, in an apparent attempt to gain more customers, who knows, but the staff working here act as if they don't really need a regular clientele to survive. Recently a staffer claimed they needed 10-15 minutes to prepare a simple smoothie beverage to go, claiming 'it's not fast food here'. I mentioned to her that I've prepared the drinks myself and its really just a matter of scoop, scoop, scoop (dry ingredients) then pour the pre-made nut milk and maybe a bit of fresh fruit in to the blender, press blend, wait 40 seconds, and you're done! She had no response to this.

While the raw foods movement is important and growing, I'm surprised no one has really taken the ball and run with it in the way say, Urth cafe has done with healthy organic cooked food. The market is ripe for a smart entrepreneur to build a raw foods restaurant brand that combines Service with a quality Raw foods menu. Someone needs to give these small sloppy places a run for their money!

Raw food is wonderful. Life is wonderful. There are many things wonderful thing about raw living and food.

Rude Service, rude staff

It's a shame even though food is good, the staff is so rude. I have no idea what is wrong with this place. It's not fit to be a raw healthy restaurant at all.

Having joined forces with the home delivery service Rawvolution, this small, informal cafe and retail shop in Santa Monica is where health-conscious locals go for raw food entrees, salads, soups, and beverages.

RAW RUDE SERVICE

Tyring to give this place a chance, I went three times and each time, got bad service. Twice, the staff was rude. This rudeness is part of the service here - IN THE LA WEEKLY REVIEW,BEST OF LA, OCTOBER, 2007 THEY ALSO MENTIONED RUDE SERVICE SAYING, "the staff tends toward the socially inept and sometimes just plain rude." I go to a lot of raw food joints - Juliano's, Leaf, etc and I am always treated with respect. It seems that most of the staff here does not know the dishes they are serving and so they take a long time to explain the food and then serve it. I am a relaxed type but waiting 30 mins for gazpacho is a bit much. Another time, one of the managers had food removed from my salad plate because the server gave me "too much food". I am paying $20 for a large salad, I think I can get a full plate. She seemed less concerned that they had given me the wrong salad order as long as I did not get too much food. The kale was dry (I was told they forgot to put dressing on it that day) and the egg salad too soupy. I could maybe put up with bad service if there was good food but the inconsistency in the food is awful. Maybe once day, you get a good dish and another day, you do not. Plus, they are out of a lot of items on the menu. Bohemian is fine, but this place has now become unprofessional!

The best part of this restaurant are the desserts made by Amita who is an independent outside chef.

Rawvoultion - make a revolution and revamp your restaurant.

I am in love with Matt n Cheese!

What an amazing restaurant. My friend and I dine here regularly and have been 'raw' for about 6 months. It is the best and fittest I have been in 10 years and I have shed 20 pounds - yeah! I was going through some sleep issues and not only does this restaurant have unbelievable food but they have Nala and Sarah as alchemist to make your favourite tonic or something that will actually be of benefit to your body. I thank these girls for helping my insomnia problem disappear - I have a new love for KAVA and my sleepness nights are over! The food is to die for. We particularly like the Matt and Cheese (it absolutely tastes like a big mac!), the onion bread is amazing, all of the salads are great in particular the 'mock tuna' and the cakes are unbelievable. I have tried a few and they are all great and SO fresh. The carob haystacks and bliss centres are to die for.......While it is not at all expensive I wish I could go ever night, if I did then every night would be a happy meal. Keep it up Matt, we love your food and will spread the good word!

best raw desserts!!

this place is just so cool. i love it. you must make sure to try their raw cakes and desserts- they are soo delicous, and unbelievably healthy for you too. all the food is great. i really love the raw durian. so yummy.
