my friend and I stumbled upon Malibu Wines as we were driving home from Zuma. We saw a sign that said "wine tasting" and decided just to see what it looked like. That turned into buying a bottle to share! The place is a huge open park with tons of little tables and chairs. The tasting room is a cute little building and everybody just lines up to taste. They offered two different tastings (list at malibuwine. com),one at $10 and one $12. My friend & I didn't really feel like standing up at the room while we tasted 4 wines, so we decided to get a glass and sit instead, because it was so beautiful &sunny out. Well, they dont offer wines by the glass which I think is one of the biggest reasons I didnt give this place 5 stars. The two of us ended up buying a bottle and just hung around for awhile! We got the 2005 Sadlerock Cabernet Sauvignon &neither of us were too impressed. It was good but definitely not great. The atmosphere of the place is what made it so much fun. Their property really is beautiful and very peaceful.Another reason I didnt give Malibu Wines 4 stars is because they dont have any food at their tasting room. We were starved and something small would have been great. Grapes, crackers and cheese would be great! especially while inbetween tastings to cleanse your palate. I recently went back with 5 of my friends & we opted not to do the tasting again. This time we bought a bottle of the Semler Syrah & all of us really loved it. It might be one of my favorite wines that I have had before! Second we got the Saddleback chardonnay which was really light and nice. The Semler Cabernet Sauvignon was our final bottle and it was good but we all agreed that the syrah was the best bottle we had the whole afternoon. That day we brought along a picnic basket filled with trader joes snacks. The place was pretty busy and a group of guys also brought their own bocce ball set . I definitely would recommend this place to anyone and I cant wait to go back!
Pros: pretty, relaxing, nice envoriment
Cons: staff is a little stuffy, no food, no wine by the glass

When I first stepped on to the Malibu Wines property, I immediately felt at ease. No traffic, no noise, just nature and one of nature's true gifts to man...great wine! Nestled in the rugged surroundings of the Santa Monica Mountains I found a little Shangri-La and at the center of it a little structure that looked something like a trading post. As I approached the small stone building I was greeted with smiles and a sincere friendliness that made me feel as if I had known these people for years. We chatted for a bit and then eased into the tasting. The wines were magnificent! I travelled from a crisp Chardonney, to Merlot, Cab and finally to one of the best Syrah's I've ever tasted! Each wine with an artisan's structure but a heart set firmly in Malibu. If you are seeking a quick get away or just some afternoon romance, travel the short distance to Malibu Wines. You feel worlds away and yet right at home. A great place to try some truly great local wines!
Pros: Superior Wine, Beautiful location
Cons: having to leave

I had no idea this place was even there, I am so glad that I found it! You get a real wine tasting experience without the three hour drive. It really feels like you are getting out of the city - it was great to be able to do a wine tasting and then buy a bottle of wine and enjoy the outdoors. Highly recommended!
Pros: Location, Ambiance
