Best of the Best!

by cupcakequeen702 at Citysearch

This place is amazing. I have for quite some time now been a Yummy Cupcakes fan. Sometimes it gets super busy, but what do you expect when everyone wants such amazing cupcakes! Their Red Velvet is the best in town and my personal favorite, the Fudge Yummy is an amazing chocolate cupcake, FILLED with GANACHE!!! It also has chocolate buttercream and these great chocolate sprinkles. I urge the people who had bad experiences there to try Yummy again, from my understanding they've undergone a bit of an management change, maybe that was the issue...because these cupcakes are AMAZING!!! I've tried a lot of cupcakes and this one takes the cake!

  • Pros: Great family atmosphere, seating, friendly staff, DELICIOUS down home cupcakes like your mama would make, and the lowest priced cupcakes around!
  • Cons: Sometimes a bit busy, but hey, what can you expect for deliciousness!

My teeth still hurt from the sugar...Not so "yummy"

by vlmSantaMonica at Citysearch

My boyfriend and I stopped in Yummy Cupcakes on Sat--and what a mistake. First off, it was around 6:30 and the sign on the door said that it was closed, though there were people inside, the hours posted indicated it was still to be open, and the door was unlocked..so we went in...as we waited in line while 3 bakers finally came to explain to us that it had been a busy day and all they had was displayed (maybe they didnt want to frost others so they closed?!?!)...ok, busy sunny Santa Monica day, I understand. We chose a vanilla vanilla, a signature Yummy Cupcake, and a vanilla with sprinkles. It literally took us 15 minutes to check out. Meanwhile, I sat down to an incredibly dirty and sticky table to watch this scene play out. The lady behind me was picking up an order that was supposed to be ready at 3:30, and it still wasn't ready. And because it was a busy day, I'm pretty sure they had sold her flavors of cupcake, but never mind, not my battle to fight. So after the 15 minutes of waiting patiently to pay without a mention of "I'm sorry for making you wait," my boyfriend brought me my cupcake. All could be forgiven if it was good. Ha! Honestly, and I'm sad I have to say this because I don't want to, but Vons makes a better cupcake. Maybe it's the fact that they're stored in the open, but the cake was DRY and the frosting was HARD. Oh, and let's not mention the overwhelming sugar frosting. It really make me sick afterwards. It's really sad because I'm a big supporter of local bakeries, but I'm better off at the other cupcake 4 blocks east. Cordon Bleu, really?

  • Pros: Not any I can find
  • Cons: Too many to count

Like eating dirt!

I happened upon this place shopping on third street. Big mistake. The cake was so dry I could not swallow, even with the wax like frosting lubing my mouth. One or two bad ones in my 6 pack I would be alright with because I know people have different tastes, but the entire batch of 6 was not even eatable! It looks like they spent more on their name then anything else in there. You call that a red velvet? I had to actually double check that the box I bought was not a box of candles. I would rather eat a supermarket sheet cake iced with Crisco then put another thing you make into my mouth. Thanks for that experience Yucky Crud-cakes..

Lives up to its name

Yummy is well yummy. They offer cocoa red velvet cupcakes and I enjoyed their special rocky road cupcake complete with nuts, marshmallows and chocolate whipped frosting. Their trademark Yummy Cupcake is chocolate cake with pink butter cream frosting and chocolate sprinkles was a popular favorite amongst the LA Cupcakes group.

It's an unpretentious shop and has a lot of unusual flavors, 125 to be exact. They have about 10 of their regular flavors always available like Happy Day (vanilla), Yummy, etc. and then four different varieties for purchase each day like Pink Lemonade, Chocolate Raspberry, Peanut Butter and Jelly, Rocky Road, etc. All are baked from scratch every morning and all day long by their talented pastry chefs. Their cupcakes are made using top quality real ingredients such as whole milks, creams and buttermilks, Callebaut chocolates, fresh fruits, juices and zests, California creamery butter, Madagascar Bourbon and Tahitian vanilla bean and ranch fresh eggs. No lards or trans fats. They also have a shop in Burbank.

The store is also very kid-friendly with little chairs and tables that can be rented out for cupcake decorating birthday parties.

The BEST by far in Town!!!!!!

by marikon at Citysearch

Today is my last night in CA- after living here for school- I am moving home....and on my last night in the city I wanted a Yummy cupcake more than anything else! Well, I arrived an hour after closing, thinking they were open later- and they OPENED their door for me!. These are the BEST cupcakes in the city- I have been on the quest to find the best cupcake in LA- I've tried them all- and they are the top! Besides having the smoothest frosting in town- they have the best staff- they love their job and it is obvious! Thanks!

delicious cupcakes at yummy!

by yoohoola at Citysearch

i really love yummy cupcakes. i go there at least once a weeks for one cupcake - old school (chocolate with cream center) or red velvet - my favorite. the cupcakes are amazing! my friends and i actually had a cupcake taste test with sprinkles, yummy and though sprinkles may be boxed more beautifully, yummy cupcakes are more homemade looking and tasting. i read the other review about the bad smell... and i've never had that experience at all. from what my numerous experiences at yummy, everything smells great! almost too good because i always want to buy more than i can actually eat! i always wanted to suggest that they open the door to let some of the sweet smelling air out the door to get more customers! yummy is not as busy as sprinkles, but sometimes you do have to ask someone to help you as they employees do tend to wander in the back of the store to work.... but otherwise, you rarely have to wait more than a couple seconds to get someones attention. i think the cupcakes are great! pay the $3 and try it.. it's a great place. one suggestion to the owner - put cupcakes in the window so people walking by can see them! and give out samples by the door... you'll probably get more customers! it's a tasty indulgent delight... truly yummy.

  • Pros: truly yummy cupcakes, worth every penny
  • Cons: does need a greeter when you walk in

Do you smell that?

by krishane at Citysearch

My boyfriend and I had never been here before and after reading the reviews we decided to give it a try. We didn't even try their cupcakes because once we walked through the door, we both turned and looked at each other horrified by the smell of "bathroom" in there. The cupcakes did look yummy but we got so turned off by the sewer smell that we jetted out of there and just went to Le Cupcake...

Yummy Cupcakes

by customer_ at Citysearch

I went to Yummy Cupcakes after visiting their website and reading the City Search reviews. The store is conveniently located next door to Sur la Table. They have a cute display of IKEA furniture to the right as you enter the store. The store is well staffed with three employees on the sales floor on a Saturday afternoon.

Sadly, the IKEA display and the location where the only good experiences that I had with this place. Entering for the first time can be confusing. Do you walk up to the register and order? Do you stand at the front, near the employee that is to busy to make eye contact with entering customers? What do you do? The service does not come quickly and no one greets you as you enter, which is odd for a place that is asking you to shell out $2.50 to 3.00 a cupcake. Eventual a girl from the back appeared and asked what I wanted. Her shirt was filthy, decorated with ten different shades of frosting and a smug of who knows what. For a moment, I thought I was looking at a Jackson Pollock painting. I almost lost my appetite, but after struggling for street parking I was committed to my gastronomical mission at this point. I choose my cupcakes: a Cherries Jubilee and a Chocolate Cappuccino.

We walked to the register, where I was deluge with a conversation between two employees. Register girl complained that she had come in early to make cupcakes for a customer that was late arriving. The employee was visibly annoyed with the absent customer and continued to complain to and the box folding employee seated behind me. They continued complain about a variety of customers and later moved onto a discourse about visiting relatives. All the while, I just want to have my $5.00 cupcake duo and to get out of there.

Arriving home with my cupcakes was the worst part. After the sugary escapade in Santa Monica, I was looking forward to at least having something "yummy". But it was dry. Not just a little dry but cardboard dry. My advice: try to avoid this place.

  • Pros: Location
  • Cons: Service, 50% chance one of your cupcakes will be dry

Addictive Cupcakes

by nikel68 at Citysearch

I love this place! The choc/van was soooooo good! The icing is what makes them sweet enough. The cake was not dry or tasteless. They had a fantastic variety of cupcakes. I wanted to try them all. I recommend this place to all my friends.

  • Pros: The cupcakes
