I visited this restaurant as part of dineLA Restaurant Week. The service was terrible. The whole time I felt like I was inconveniencing the wait staff with my presence. The food wasn't good enough to make up for the poor service, and I won't be going back.

Enjoyed it, but for the price, I'd have to think about a return visit

I took a friend to E3rd for her birthday on March 8th of this year. The neighborhood appears to be light industrial and fairly deserted at 7:30 on a Saturday night. The nice aspect was that we easily found a parking spot across the street.

Since it was early, there weren't many people there, but it was busy by 9:00 or so. Fun crowd, dressy and a mix of ages and appearances.

I enjoyed the decor, dark and 'arty', but welcoming. Before being seated we ordered couple drinks (I agree with another reviewer's comment that the prices seemed closer to Hollywood than an industrial stretch of Little Tokyo) and chatted with the bartender.

While being seated, I asked the host whether they could create some kind of birthday dessert (I had also mentioned that we were celebrating a birthday when making the online reservation). He told me that it'd be no problem. Unfortunately that seemed to be forgotten by the end of the dinner since no birthday dessert was forthcoming.

I ordered the filet and she ordered the NY Strip. The sides were good. The filet was good. The NY Strip was awful. Very overcooked. I think someone compared it to Sizzler which is about right.

Pros:

- Industrial neighborhood made for less traffic and no parking hassles.

- Fun decor

- Friendly staff

Cons:

- The NY Strip was unforgivable

- Forgot the birthday dessert

- A bit on the pricey side, but not outrageous

Conclusion, if I could be sure of the entree quality, I'd be a repeat customer. For now I'll just keep an eye on the reviews.

Did Sizzler's rename one of their restaurants to E3rd Steakhouse and Lounge?

I had a birthday dinner there last Saturday with 3 others friends (I'm currently questioning their friendship). We ordered (1) e3rd Pork Ribs and (3) New York Strip Natural Beef (medium rare) with side choices of Kimchi Mashed Potato, Sauted Mushrooms, Green Beans, and Onion Rings.

New York Strip:

Hands down, all 4 of us agreed the New York Strip was TERRIBLE. It was like chewing on leather. When I arrived home, I chewed on my leather belt to compare. The steak was tough and dry even though the middle was pink. And I was able cut off a good half inch of fat along the entire elongated side of the steak...love that fat.

3rd Pork Ribs:

My friend didn't like her dish, but I actually thought it wasn't that bad. Possibly, eating anything after my steak would've tasted good. It was not as dry as the steak, but still the meat didn't fall off the bone as easily as I would have liked. Also I may have been fooled by the spicy marinade because it slightly reminded me of home cooking. If I'm correct the rib's marinade basically consisted of a BBQ sauce (Bulls Eye?) and Gochujang (Hot Pepper Paste), a recipe my mom used for all family bbq's (Try it...it's awesome!!!)

Sides:

The Kimchee mashed potato is quite creative, but over rated. The rest of the sides were mediocre. The marinade they used for the mushrooms and the green beans seemed a bit salty.

BOTTOM LINE:

I felt like I was ripped off and I didn't even pay. But to be fair, we probably should have ventured into their Signature Entrees instead of ordering the plain steaks.

By the way...does anyone else think the decor of the bar reminds them of a strip club bar?

Their appetizers are world-class and their filet mignon is the best I've had.

I've eaten as five-star resteraunts in Las Vegas and New York Ctiy and have had $100 meals for just myself and this place rivals all others I've been to. The area the resteraunt is in is a bit crappy and only street parking is available (they do have valet) but the food is incredible! I highly recommend this place.
