Dirty and Rude.

by STEPHENinLA

Would be nice to see this place close and make room for something better. We tried a few times in 07-08 and I have never received such consistently rude and uninspiring service. The management must be dreadful. But it was the busboy who touched our bread with his hands immediately after clearing a table and holding a filthy bus tub, that had us electing to never return. Stay away.

  • Pros: Variety of Food, Location, Late night
  • Cons: Filthy, rude, all food tastes the same.

So glad this place has closed

by BigDog90038

I walk my dog past this "restaurant" every day. On a Sunday morning people are lined up outside waiting for tables in the stinky street. For those of you who live around here / have eaten there you know exactly what I mean. I tried it once. The food was awful. Everything tasted liked it was from a microwave. No flavor. The "regulars" block the sidewalk on Lexington by pushing tables two wide and the staff never did anything about it - so the residents of the neighborhood would have to walk out into traffic to get past this place.

The rodents!! Where do I begin. You could hear them late at night when you walk by and the streets were quiet.

Quite how this place ever lasted as long as it did is a great example of the stupidity of consumers around Hollywood. I've spoken to neighboring business owners and they could talk for hours about the dirty setting.

Can't wait to hear the official word on why it was closed. Right now there is a handwritten note in the window saying they are undergoing some repairs but until this afternoon there was a bowl of half eaten food sitting in the window and dirt all over the floors. Hopefully it won't reopen.

  • Pros: Its near a Subway
  • Cons: Bad food, bad service, the smell

Wow, can a restaurant really stay in business with these kind of servers?

by hired

First trip, a few months back, our waiter- who Ilater encountered working at a bar pulling the same kind of tricks, was hungover, he told us so, and his breath reeked, whetehr it was alcohol, herbs, or just bad hygiene- I think a combination actually- it was just plain gross. He told us his name, and that he had worked the place for 20 years. Aim low I suppose. I hadn't even realized they had been open that long. Come to find out, they hadn't. He then explained that the owners were sort of jerks, and tried to sit down to take our order. But the breath on this guy, and the way he kept sort of spitting on us as he talked inspired us to act quickly remarking a friend was in the bathroom, but "she" wasn't ordering, so we placed our order against better judgment, and when it came out, the "20" yr veteran had it wrong, completely wrong, and apologized, but somehow deduced from our glares that he wouldn't be getting a good tip so lagged on the meal the rest of the time.

Anyway, we should have left before he came back, which took forever and with the wrong order again.

Eventually we ate cold food that tasted more than a few days old. A gal pal who used to work their told us they dumped the guy, for telling the owners friends the same thing he told us.

We went back after that, and encountered a tall lanky guy, black hair. And he clearly thought he was the cat's meow, though he also proved inadequate as a waiter, bringing us the wrong drinks, and then assuring us in a few weeks there would be alcohol, and we'd really have a good time then. Maybe he meant himself, I dunno, but either way, when the food arrived , the pizza margherite was soggy and luke warm. and the muffuleta was nothing at all like a muffuleta. It tasted sour, in a metallic sort of way.

DO NOT GO HERE!!!! On the way out we saw a rodent scurry past.

  • Pros: None

HORRIBLE. please read!!

by fatalblades

Please do not eat at this restaurant. I am a tenant in the building that shares the restaurant. I have lived here almost 3 years and ever since this restaurant has opened it's doors. It's been nothing but filthy and disgusting issues for us.

Just so you know, these place has RODENTS. Yes, there are rodents that now live in the walls as mine. They are found on the roof top, and now they are found in their alley way where they keep some of their restaurant facilities. Their refrigeration unit is in the building, and today my girlfriend witnessed an employee shooing rodents out of that space. Their dumpster which used to be our dumpster is now a haven for 20 or so rodents. It's a horrible situation, and the city doesn't even help me. I am doing this as a concerned person for your well being. If you want to know more, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you and I hope this review informs you of the truth.

The worst place in Los Angeles

by yukaron

It took almost an hour for the food to come out when there were only three tables occupied in the restaurant.

The waiter kept making stupid mistakes with our order ( with no apology)

No baked products because the baker was on a vacation.

After all that, the food was so bad. The restaurant is lucky for its location since there's no restaurant around.

Otherwise it should be closed down for its horrible food and service and the waiter's attitude.

We will never go back there again.

***Great service, inventive menu***

by berniela

Wanted to weigh in here after the slew of bad reviews. First of all, I have never been to the 'original' Doughboys...hence have nothing to compare it to, good or bad. And I have only been once...but the one time I went the waitress was thoroughly attentive, patiently and courteously answered my many questions. My friend loved what she got, the Grandma Rose Special? Chicken Noodle Soup with Grilled Cheese Sandwich (she is a regular) and I loved what I got - the Monster sandwich: roast beef on a flat grilled bread with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and horseradish sauce on the side........we shared the Red Velvet Cake and yes, it is too oily. They can cut the oil by a third with no harm done. But the frosting was good and if someone put it in front of me I wouldn't turn it down. I wouldn't drive miles for it, as I do Auntie 'Em's Red Velvet Cupcake.

Another nice plus - we were allowed to bring our own bottle of wine, no corkage fee. How many places can claim that?

It was hard to find/poor signage, I drove by it several times, and there is something lacking in the decor and lighting of the place... but I'm thinking maybe these drawbacks will be corrected over time?

  • Pros: Creative menu, many vegetarian and healthy options
  • Cons: Poor lighting and signage, decor (bland), some confusion at door

TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!

by toermo

Bad food, bad, service, bad experience overall. I used to think this place was good when it was in the old location. I think the staff must hate the owner, and it shows. This place was dirty and out of almost everything on the menu. What was left over, was flavorless and stale. I will never return. Too bad because it used to be a pretty cool place to eat.

  • Pros: location
  • Cons: food, service, cleanliness

Warning! Not the same as the Doughboys on 3rd!!!

by labigeater

I LOVE the Doughboys on 3rd, but this new location has terrible service! Don't go there! Ordering takeout takes at least a half hour if not 45 minutes, and you still have to wait if you order takeout. The staff are curt and impolite, special requests are ignored and when you point out the mistakes they are gruff... and the menu is the same as the one on third but the food is only about half as good, usually bland and not fresh. I don't know what messed up such a good thing as Doughboys but they definitely are under par! Don't waste your time at this location!

  • Pros: Relive memories of the old Doughboys
  • Cons: Its a major letdown.

Mediocre food, terrible service

by CKDexterHaven08

A friend suggested we meet here for dinner last week. Our waiter couldn't wait to get rid of us. He was at our table literally every couple of minutes asking if we needed anything else and at one point tried to take my friend's soup away from him mid-meal. It wasn't attentiveness it was obnoxiousness. My sloppy joe was chewy, gristly and SWEET, not tangy as the menu indicated. Really, really bad. I should have sent it back. And the mac 'n cheese is not like any mac 'n cheese you can imagine, and that's not a good thing. It's really not mac 'n cheese at all as though it does have a layer of cheese on top, and macaroni in it (if you dig around a bit) it also has tomato sauce, mushrooms, ground beef, chopped onions -- THIS IS A CASSEROLE not a mac 'n cheese. Given how different the dish is from what anyone would expect from a mac 'n cheese why wouldn't our waiter mention it? Because he was too busy trying to turn our table, that's why. It was an endlessly frustrating experience and embarrassing for my friend who made the recommendation. My first trip will absolutely be my last.

  • Pros: Baked goods, eclectic menu
  • Cons: service, food quality
