Great Karaoke
by Singasong at Citysearch
I love karaoke on Wednesdays and Sundays. The kj is a fun person with great manners would love to see him there Fridays and Saturdays too! Alhambra is now gaining more recognition as a cool place.
The people that go there are nice friendly people. Other karaoke's don't have that fun atmosphere too many drunks out of there minds.
I went to one in El Sereno and I was disgusted to see that women were cussing, smoking and grabbing the mics out of your hands. Now they have a new MC and it 's still not good. Too many rough people there.
- Pros: Excellent KJ classy and great manners.
- Cons: Need Finger foods kitchen closes to early
happy hour

Honeys Birthday 12-30-08
We were on our way to our usual Mexican resturant for Carolyns birthday ( Acapulco) when at the last minute I remember reading recently the local monthly Alhambra new paper about Fronteras. I had driven by it on Main street before and it had a A food rating and looked inviting. It was a lot closer so we took a drive by to check it out. It pleased her eyes and belive me Carolyn hates everything so what the heck lifes like a box of chocolate.
Parking was a breeze and by the way Main Street Alhambra is a great kept secret for night life. We entered and were greeted by a very friendly hostes. We were seated right away and ordered a couple of margaritas including complementry salsa and chips. Large bowl of very fresh salsa which was really good, the chips were those red white and blue chips so so but not greasy. If they changed the type of chips and Gucamole it would make this resturant perfect. I ordered steak Fajitas and she ordered taquitos both were of obvious freshness and excellent quality very sweet veggies and superb beans and rice! On a side note the bus boy which I hate to call him was absoutley delightfull please give that man a raise he was as good as is gets!
The atmosphere was very nice in an old brick building it was extreamly clean, quaint and classy. They also comped us a couple of drinks and did not even know it was her B-day. The manager was first class and a great ambassador for this establishment. I am a hot sauce conisuer who has traveled the globe and thier picante sauce is to die for. It's not for the weak or timid but if you like it hot it is second to none. It's like a butter wine hanabaro sauce very unique and very tasty hot. Carolyn loved it and so did I, Fronteras you get the best advertisement of all (word of mouth) I'm telling everybody about you and I can't wait to come back again.
Wow what a geat dinning experence, loved it!
- Pros: Parking, Service, Atttitudes, Freshness you can taste, Very clean, Picante sauce
- Cons: Middle of the road chips and gucamole
Gourmet Mexican FOOD at Prices Cheaper than Taco Bell!!!
by killerhillz10304 at Citysearch
Whenever I go broke, it's time to round up the pennies from all the sofas and household vehicles and make my way to the nearest taco bell... although i'm no big fan of taco bell, it's all I can afford. That was the case until about 3 thursdays ago, my friend invited me to happy hour at Fronteras. I didn't even know this place was there but I met up with him. The restaurant was very artsy with it's unique brick wall similar to the one at havana house, I expected a very pricey menu or at least one that was out of my price range. My friend then mentioned to not worry about my beer, that he would be buying??? I then asked what was the occasion and he said "no occasion, the draft beers are $2 bucks here and so are the margaritas!"
"WHAT?????" I responded.
I guest this place has $2 beers, margaritas and tacos every thursday and friday for happy hour. We ordered a big platter of tacos (about $20 worth) and the rest was beer. We had a great time and didn't spend anymoney really. I now try to visit every thursday and friday for happy hour and although the tacos are great, i've since tried other dishes and they are all just as good.
I would recomend this place to anyone who loves great genuine mexican food without the "AMERICANIZED" price.
- Pros: $2 happy hour, Cochinita Pibil, Service, Prices
- Cons: Parking
Best Dish Ever!!!
by diGitAL9 at Citysearch
You must try the Cochinita Pibil! It is the greatest dish EVER!!! I've been to this place a couple of thursdays for their two dollar tacos and beers (they also have $2 margaritas) and decided to meet up with friends for dinner. Quite similar to the review below, i too was gonna get the barbacoa but the waiter recomended I try the Cochinita Pibil. He said is was just as good as the barbacoa and it was the chefs specialty dish. At the sound of that how can I refuse. Man, was it ever just as good.... it was five times better than any barbacoa dish i have ever tried. Topped with these purple onions i've never tried before, it also came with black beans which i love and the guacamole was too die for. This dish was so amazing and well portioned that I had to thank the waiter. He also went on to say that the chef use to cook this dish personally for a famous boxer which i can't remember cause i like baseball :)
Value $$$$$
Service $$$$$
Food $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$Awesome!!!
- Pros: Cochinita Pibil, Friendly Service, Prices, $2 Beers
- Cons: Parking
I love Cochinitas....
by elcompita at Citysearch
Usually when visiting mexican restaurants, i usually stick with the usual barbacoa or carnitas dinner..... but the waitress at this place recommended a similar dish called "Cochinita Pibil" from the yucatan which happens to be the chefs specialty.... I decided to give this dish a try and WOW!!!! I thought i was crazy over barbacoa...i found a new love and it's right in my back yard..... to anyone who visits this place, have someone in your party order this dish, you'll love it. the mexican pizza was tasty too.... but you have to ask for it cause it's not on the menu..... and karaoke was a blast as well. thanks julie!!!
Hot bartender!
by taurus04 at Citysearch
The bartender at Fronteras is a super HOTTIE! I like the atmosphere when I'm hanging out at the bar, the staff is very friendly. I read another review about the bartender being hot so decided to check out the place. Now, I'm a regular. After going about two months ago I got hooked. Not only is she hot, she's a great bartender. Even girls come in to hang out with VALERIE (the bartender). Get their early to get a seat because she gets that bar full on Wednesday and Friday nights. Oh yeah their food is good too. They have awesome chips and salsa that?s good to snack on. Their appetizers are great and if you go during happy hour their appetizer menu is half price and the beers are 3 bucks!
- Pros: Hot bartender, good margaritas.
DOESN'T GET MUCH WORSE....
by cupcake1 at Citysearch
I'm always so reluctant on going out for Mexican food. There's never been a Mexican restaurant that is even comparable to my mother's homemade Mexican food. I had read so many positive reviews on Fronteras that I thought I'd give it a try. What a disappointment! The 2 different margartitas we ordered were like sipping on liquid candy. The beer (draft) was decent. The food was a nightmare! The food was so terribly bland...I couldn't even taste the spices! I took 2 bites of the enchiladas and couldn't stomach a 3rd. The rice was tasteless..the beans were no better. The best part of the meal was the cheese that was on the beans. Next time I', wanting Mexican food and my mother isn't around to prepare it I think I'll go to Taco Bell!!
- Pros: Cold draft beer
- Cons: Terrible food
The Upstairs Patio Rocks!!!
by greenlantern82 at Citysearch
This place serves the best Mexican Pizza anywhere. Their food is also very very affordable for any meal. I would have to recomend this place to anyone who wants a beautiful restaurant setting for a very affordable price. We asked to be seated in the upstairs terrace, and it was awesome. Open air with it's own little cantina. If you go here, ask to be seated upstairs.
- Pros: Mexican Pizza, Margaritas, Upstairs Open Air Terrace& Cantina
Thank You For Everything Fronteras!!!
by sweetjess122 at Citysearch
Fronteras hosted my Mom's 50th birthday bash and everything was perfect. My family all loved the food and decoration. The service was also a definite plus, with a very at home feeling. Fronteras was able to offer us everything and more at very short notice. I have continued to visit Fronteras with friends and I love their margaritas as well as their manager who is really cute, shhhh;)
- Pros: Price, Accomodation, Service
