Great sushi for UCLA students
by saratown19
Yamato is my favorite! I absolutely love the 911 Roll. The food is always 50% because of happy hour. This is the best restaurant for the college crowd. Always full of UCLA students who are sake bombing before going to their frat parties. They recently got a DJ for saturday nights so expect to hear House and Hip Hop music while dining.
*Ask for Pim to be your server! She is the Best!
- Pros: Happy Hour, Food, Service, Music
- Cons: They close too early
Amazing Sushi in Westwood
by dco22
Yamato is currently my favorite restaurant! The sushi is above average, the staff is very friendly, and the crowd is mostly college students from UCLA. Whenever I walk in, I am greeted by the Hostess by the door as well as all the sushi makers at the bar. They have a DJ there on Saturday nights to play House and Rap music while you dine. Ask for Jenna to be your waitress. She's Hot!
In my opinion, Yamato is the best restuarant in all of Westwood.
- Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere, Prices, Music
- Cons: They close too damn early!
Awesome for the sushi timid!

We wanted a quick bite on our way out to a party and stopped in. They had great 1/2 price happy hour specials. We got to try several different rolls, salads, skewers, and tempura and the total was less than $30. It has an upscale decor but it is in the center of Westwood village and it is not pretentious. It is come as you are with lots of students in their UCLA sweats and t-shirt as well as people dressed for an evening out. Service was adequate and parking is always a challenge in Westwood but I would defineately recommend giving it a try if you arte in the neighborhood.
- Pros: Great atmosphere
- Cons: parking
My Favorite Sushi Restaurant!!
by lizhawk73
Yamato is my favorite sushi restaurant. The first time I went there I was amazed at the quality of the sushi compared to the low prices. They have great sake as well. Besides the food/drinks, the fact that there is a DJ makes it even better. What more can you ask for?
- Pros: Sushi, Sake, You get what you pay for and more
- Cons: Close too early

Yamato is the best value in Los Angeles, hands down. Amazing decor, good food, and unreasonably cheap prices....what more can you ask for? Definitely worth visiting.
- Pros: Decor, Desserts, Value
- Cons: Inconsistency
wonderful customer service

I entered Yamato with reluctance because I had had my wedding reception in the space when it was Eurochow. I was saddened to hear of Eurochow no longer being there because of the memories and the amazing experience I had. But my friends and I were hungry and I was generally curious about the changes with the restaurant, space, and service. We came in very late--near closing--but the manager Akira was so accommodating and welcoming. Our food was pretty good, by far the best Yamato I have ever been to, but it was the overall service of the manager and the server that really impressed me. They were very kind and genuine in their having us there--even though we were the last ones. Great price, good food, beautiful ambience, awesome service.
- Pros: service, ambience
Great ambience!

My buddies and I randomly walked into this place not really sure what to expect. We've passed by it a lot since we live near Westwood, but we never actually went in.
The night turned out to be a great surprise! As soon as we went in, we were very impressed by how spacious it was and how nicely decorated. It looks like a very high class, high end type of place, but the prices turned out to be very very reasonable! I tried the black cod which literally melts in your mouth and my friend got a bunch of little appetizers like shiitake mushrooms, tofu, eggplant, and other Japanese dishes.
Be sure to get the molten chocolate cake for dessert.

I went here on a date... We were seated immediately on a sort of balcony that overlooked the entire gorgeous restaurant and bar. The halibut and toro melt like butter in your mouth, the kobe filet is to die for, and the dual-pudding dessert and the molten chocolate are delicious! Don't forget to save room for dessert! Yamato has a very romantic, sexy-vibe and my date and I were pretty impressed to see Quentin Tarantino there.
I am definitely going back soon!
- Pros: mysterious atmosphere and valet is only $5
Freshest Sushi Hidden in Westwood Village
by delish123
I went to Yamato for lunch and was pleasantly surprised! The hidden restaurant and food are visually fantastic!!! Yamato has the freshest, most delicious sashimi I have tasted in LA-- and that is really saying something. To top it off, my plate (which included a spectacular variety of sashimi, a miso soup, seaweed appetizer, and a mini salad) was only $14! I felt guilty and tipped the server 50%. But the real surprise was the molten chocolate cake. It was exquisitely arranged and came with a delicious purple (yes, PURPLE) ice cream and crispy wonton flakes. PHENOMENAL. (period.)
- Pros: visually breathtaking and delicious food, great value
- Cons: its so inexpensive you almost feel guilty
