I used to love this bar when it first opened. They had DJ's and a great crowd of young professionals. The menu was simple, but my friends and I never went for the food. The fun we had was all because of the spunky bartender, Jen. One of the few LA bartenders I've ever come across with a true personality that kept us all coming back for more. When we went in last night, I encountered a rude, unwelcoming attitude from the door man, then had less than appetizing rice patties and cold fries that we suffered through, and to bring it all to a halt, I found out that Jen doesn't even work there anymore!! I don't think I'll go back, I believe it was a poor business decision to let her get away, and for those prices I'd rather go to the Penthouse or Viceroy.

I've been coming to this bar for many years when it was Voda. Never when it was Voda did I experience the rudeness of the bouncer since it changed to Chloe. On a slow Friday night, my attorney friends and I decide to go to Chloe after having a great time down the street at the Bodega Bar. The bouncer would not let us in even though we had a group of several attractive women and two guys. Some friends of mine happened to get there earlier and said it was not even busy inside. We questioned him and he said there's nothing we could do and told us to go to another bar in Santa Monica which we did. We spent a lot of money there. If there is one place in Santa Monica to never go to, it is Chloe. Not worth the hassle. I'm sure it will be some other bar anyway in a few months. Don't go to Chloe period!

Pros: Zero

Cons: Rude Bouncer

I've been coming to this place for the past 5 years or so when it was Voda...loved it! Now it's Chloe and overall the vibe is good as are most of the staff and the doorman is always cool. However, they have recently added several women bartenters and one is a rude, mean biatch and has NO understanding of customer service what so ever!! She has long brown hair and bangs, only semi attractive and so jealous of every attractive woman in the bar!! I actually stood for 10 minutes friday night while she helped every single man around me and still would not get my round of drinks!! Finally another female bartender helped me and she and the barback apologized. What a total loser, biatch!! I'm 38, 5'8" 117#, blonde and ex signed LA Models runway and print, she would NOt help me or my other attractive women friends...what's with that?? They need to hire and train a better staff like Voda had! The guy during the week is great!

Pros: Love the vibe and small size

Cons: RUDE snotty Bartender

I can say I experienced the good and bad of this bar -- I tried to make reservations for a group of 10 people via email and phone a 2 weeks in advance, on multiple occasions. I received only one response via email to tell me that they could not accomodate my reservation (not because they were full, but the time was during their peak hour -- which is why I made the reservation in the first place). My group of 10 arrived at different times, of 2-3 people, with about 1-2 girls in each group. The only group which did not get in was a group of 4 guys -- emphasis on the "guys." My belief is that you cannot show up in groups of 4+ and there must be a mix of men and women coming in (typical of LA, really). So, if you want to go as a large group, the trick is to be subtle! Once the first group is in, ask for a table to eat, and as friends arrive, you will have a decent space in which to enjoy your evening. The good part is that the music is good, the space is beautiful and their primm signature drink is delicious (as well as the food). It is definitely a westsider crowd with a mix of young and semi-old professionals. Also, The notorious doorman is accomodating if you arrive with in a small group and with women, but they will not budge otherwise. Good luck!

I am so happy! Just went in to Chloe for the first time last night. It is gorgeous! I was on a date and he suggested it but it will for sure be my new spot! The nibbles we had were perfect, the smoked salmon sandwich was to die for and my date was in love with the bacon wrapped dates. I had to try a couple drinks off the cocktail list so I had a Pimm's Cup (yum!) and a champagne drink called the Imperial Berry (double yum!) My date had a lavender gimlet which he loved so much he couldn't order anything else. Thought the staff was super friendly and helpful with the menu questions we had. I loved the fact that it was a little more dressy and intimate and not filled with the usual rowdy Santa Monica crowd. I will be going back often!

Pros: Great wine and cocktail menus, tasty nibbles, decor is awesome!

Cons: Haven't found any yet!

CHLOE is perfect. The food, the drinks and the decor. And the decor, like a cozy french lounge. I want to make love to someone everytime i walk in the door. Great hang on the West Side for a change.

Last week, on an empty Tuesday night, my banker friends and I started to enter Chloe. About 5 got in, and the bouncer decided all the sudden, our group was too big. We had another 9 left outside. When we started to question him, he stuttered, then decided we weren't dressed appropriately (one of my friends who was inside was wearing a t-shirt and jeans). He couldn't decide why he didn't want to let us, but just didn't. That was $300 we spent at a different bar. The place seemed cool inside but the bouncer was an idiot.

I've lived on the west side for 7 1/2 years since moving from the east coast and although I love Abbot Kinney and hitting up Rick's for a beer and a burger, I must say that this place is the best the West side has to offer. From the first time I walked in with a date, her suggestion, I was surprised of how different this place is from anything else that Santa Monica has to offer. We were stopping by Chloe for a drink before dinner to check it out and as we sat and sunk in to the plush sofa we ordered off the drink list, my date ordered a champagne cocktail and I had this minty gimlet thing which was awesome. We ended up staying for a couple of hours eating, drinking and having a great time. It was as if we were transcended to somewhere else because rarely in LA can you be in a place as nice as this without pretension. The service was great, the music was great, the drinks were almost too good and the food was absolutely perfect, bacon wrapped dates stuffed with bleu cheese, are you kidding me! I've been back several times for cocktails and eats and Chloe has never disappointed, the place is as fantastic as the crowd it attracts. You should know before going that if you are looking to roll in with a large party or after a few too many, it is not the place for you. I've seen all kinds of groups getting turned away and when I asked why the doorman simply explained that the owners don't want it to become yet another west side watering hole or a meat market. I'm telling you this place gets it. Must try foods are the dates, tuna tartare, mac n' cheese and for drinks the pimm's cup and the mint gimlet...

Pros: Decor, music, food, drinks, crowd, everything

Cons: None i can think of

Editor's Review

Reminiscent of a classic Parisian saloon but with the casual atmosphere of beachy Santa Monica, this signless bar is just steps away from the tourist-laden Promenade scene.  See the full editorial review.
