no no no.. not a good value, nor a good meal
by vms1111 at Citysearch
Ok, so being a waitress for many years I have an internal checklist of what a restaurant experience should provide and Akasha was such a DISSAPOINTMENT. As avid foodies, we were looking forward to a meal there with friends. However, the hostess was snoody and the waiter was like a limp flower. Hello people!!!! If I ask for suggestions, please provide some-- do not say, 'it depends on your tastes." Clearly he was a struggling actor and was over the restaurant gig.
The cocktails were good. I had the tangerine margarita (MMM) and my friends had a beer and some wine (which I had to recommend). Seriously Akasha, I expect the waiter to be able to suggest the Albarino as a dry white.. sigh.. but unfortunately, the drinks took forever to arrive.
Long wait time overlooked, we were still excited for the food. I did a couple tapas a they were tasty (the beet salad and mac and cheese). The mac and cheese is great and tastes like it could have truffle in it and is a big portion--enough to share. My husband had the pork chop and lets just say I would have been embarassed to serve such a sad looking piece of meat. It was probably 6 ounces at most and TINY. The spice rub was tasty but the brussel sprouts with bacon looked like a bad, elderly coleslaw. As far as our other diners, the meatloaf was another sad portion although it was delicious and the smashed potatoes cold, not luke warm, COLD! Australian Seabass was OK, but a little fishy.
Sorry Akasha, I wanted to love it but your diners are smart and know when they are being taken for a ride. Next time we want dinner with an organic/sustainable edge head to Paul Martins in El Segundo where the waiters are happy, the food is plentiful and prices wont break the bank.
- Pros: location, decor
- Cons: food, service, value

STAY AWAY
by BB2008 at Citysearch
Dont get me wrong, I am all about organic, locally grown foods. BUT the food here is terrible. I went with 3 other people. The turkey burger tasted like soggy meatloaf. I had the Mung beans and rice which was not only unappealing to look at but also to taste. And my other friend had a pizza. Not only was I unsatisfied with my meal after leaving, I returned home to get violetly ill for 2 days. And so did my friend who ordered the pizza. For your own good, stay away from here.
- Pros: the malbec, if anything
- Cons: THE FOOD
Great ambience, average food

Italian prosciutto cannot be cooked! It's a major sin. They'd better remove it from that pizza before thy put it in the oven.
That ruined my experience!
- Pros: crowd, architecture
- Cons: food below espectations
Dont think this place is going to make it.

Just plain not good. The drinks are super expensive for what they are ( agave or no agave ). The food was just not good and way over priced. With the economy being what it is i do not know how this place will make it. I say just keep walking a few doors down to Tender Greens and have a great meal without the attitude or the hefty price tag.
- Pros: unusual dishes
- Cons: everything stinks and is over priced
I really wanted to love this place... but NO.

When a friend of mine suggested we try this new organic/healthy/sustainible restaurant 'Akasha" i was excited. I really wanted and expected to like this place... but NO.
First let me just say the food was below mediocre...not good. We ordered the flat iron steak- it was luke warm a horribly fatty cut with little to no flavor. The "pizza" is like a cracker with a few veggies thrown on top. The sides- potatoes- just salty and cold. My friend ordered the Gniochi- how sad for him- it was5 small pieces! We all laughed when the waiter walked away! The short ribs we decent but again, just below my expectations. The Chocolate Hemp dessert left something to be desired.
The good thing was my Sirah-but it was $16 and for a very weak pour!
Our server was friendly. The decour was cool. But isn't the FOOD suppose to be good???
I wanted to like this place so bad... afterwards my husband asked what i thought on our way home... i had to admit- a HUGE DISSAPOINTMENT.
Don't waste your time, money or taste buds.
- Pros: service, ambience
- Cons: bad food +bad prices= not recession friendly.
Cold eggs, lame portions

The "Sunday Brunch" here was a disappointment. We enjoyed the outside cafe seating and the $6.00 brunch drinks but the food was an EXTREME disappointment. I could be more creative and cook more quality food if I had stayed home. My wife's eggs came out cold and did not have the blue cheese that was on the menu (where's the Humboldt Fog, dude?). My "Spicy Scramble" listed, get this, listed the ingredients of salsa on the menu giving the impression that it was going to in the scramble, when in fact, it was in the dollop of salsa on the side! Guys, get your act together for brunch. We won't be back anytime soon until you do.
Nice Atmosphere, Great Cocktails

The reviews seem mixed for Akasha but I've always had a good experience here. 2 times I've sat at the bar, had some wine, which they let us taste first, and some apps.
Had the Masala Shrimp, Lettuce Wraps w/ tuna, and Mung beans bowl which were all very good.
Last night a couple girlfriends took me out for my b-day and we sat at a table. The atmosphere was lively for a Sunday night but not too loud, the service was fine, no complaints. We all shared some dishes.
Lettuce wraps- Good, fresh, w/ a nice sauce, not very big but that's to be expected
Red Quinoa w lemongrass chicken- Too healthy tasting and very Dry. Needs a sauce or oil. The low point.
Sea Bass (special of the night)- Sooo Good! Cooked perfectly, very moist, great flavor with Asian veg. and crispy rice cakes (rice cakes were Tiny! could've been bigger)
Niman Flatiron Steak- Again, Sooo Good! Top quality, cooked to perfection. Spinach great, Fries so-so but we didn't care.
Also got the sweet potato fries which were pretty good.
3 of us shared these and were satisfied.
All of us also had the Akasha cucumber cocktail- Very good, Refreshing.
Apple tart was good- sugary and cinnamon-y
I would come again but it is a bit pricey so it's good to share a smaller dish and a bigger dish if you're worried about that.

In short.... DIVINE!!!! As a Culver City business owner, I am thrilled to have Akasha in town! The food is fresh, the wine is sensational.
