Haley was great! She listened to my concerns with my cut and color. She had great suggestions and was very honest about what I could expect. I left with an fantastic haircut and a great color. It will take a couple of times to get the color perfect because Haley wants to make sure that my hair stays healthy. The salon was clean and has a cool rock'n roll style. Haley did magic with my hair!!

What's unique about this place is that it's a rock-n-roll studio-style spot, yet they serve organic teas and play magic, soothing music. Unbelievable. Christi @ Kyle Mathis is my favorite place to get my hair done. AND I've got a lot of hair, and it's important in my line of work to have a business professional hair-style and Christi does it better than anyone. But, don't be fooled, she does all kinds of hair - everything. Don't let her tattoos scare you - she's the real deal: a true professional. She works with her clients, and takes her time to make your hair look the way you want, no matter what style you're going for. She even let's you take your hair for a test drive, and if you change your mind and want to change it - no problem. Check out Christi Thomas @ Kyle Mathis Hairdressing in Santa Monica, she's worth it.

I never usally rate a place I go to, but I really had to write about this hair salon, as I know how difficult it is to find a truly good one!

I needed to do my roots and found Kyle Mathis hairdressing online. I thought it looked like a cool place, but I honestly didn't have too high expectations, as I always end up getting disappointed when I go to the hairdresser. It is the first time I can say that a place looks better in real than in the pictures and the service there exceeded ALL my expectations.

A stylist named Christiano did my hair and what a job! I have never had highlights done as nicely as he did them and my hair cut was absolutely mind blowing! If I could give him more than 5 stars I really would.... THANK YOU... I will keep coming back and will send all my friends. I already went back for a blowdry and sent my husband, who got a very stylish haircut. Christiano is obviously very experienced and knows how to do ANYTHING with hair.

I recommend going to this salon and to book and appointment with Christiano.

A lifesaver! Salem is a genius!!

I was in Santa Monica for the first time in Jan. 09 to attend the Critic's Choice Awards. I found Kyle Mathis Hairdressing by searching online for a cool salon in SM. I booked a shampoo and blowdry. I arrived to find a hip, intimate salon. I was introduced to Salem S., the stylist who was to do my hair for the awards show. Salem consulted with me about how I wanted to wear my short hair for the evening. She then washed my hair. After she dried my hair and began to flat iron it...she noticed there were pieces that were not blending well on the sides. She asked about my previous haircut and I asked if there was anything she could do about the problem pieces. She asked if she could cut into the side a bit, I said sure. Salem uses a razor like an artist uses a brush. She then asked if she could re-wet my whole head. She did and proceeded to give me a perfect haircut! She is a genius with a razor! Salem carved and twisted and chiseled until I looked Red Carpet ready! I have never had a better haircut, ever! I was amazed at her abitlity to transform my look in minutes! AND....she only charged me for a shampoo and blowdry!! She mentioned while cutting that she would not charge me for the haircut, but that she wanted me to look great for the show. She was simply, the best. I live outside of Philadelphia. I have been stopped repeatedly since I returned from California by people saying my hair looks fantastic! I only wish I lived closer! Anyone who lives in or near Santa Monica or is visiting, should rush to Kyle Mathis Hairdressing!! Thank you Salem for being a lifesaver!! I will be back.

I can only recommend going to this salon and especially Christiano - The stylists are professional and the salon is beautiful! I got what I came for - A great experience, a new look to my hair and I left beyond satisfied. Christiano is the best! Happy I found this place!

Amazing atmosphere, outstanding hairjob

This week I needed a hair cut and didn't know where to go as I only have had bad experiences with hair salons in LA since I moved here. I found this salon online and decided to give it a chance. I did my hair with a guy named Christiano and how he did my hair was unbelievable. I have never had my hair done like this and I already scheduled for color next week. I finally found my salon and I truly recommend everyone to go there. All the hair dressers are very friendly there and overall it was just the best experience!

Best Haircut on both Coasts!

I first read about Kyle Mathis Salon back in February and saved it in "My Favorites." I have been VERY skeptical to get a haircut in LA after a few bad ones. I would wait for my trips back to NYC (I am a transplant). However, my hair had gotten so long and just wanted to chop it off. I brought a picture of a haircut I wanted last week to Kyle's salon. Kyle and I had a consultation, spoke about exactly what I was looking for - and he did it EXACT to the picture. The atmosphere was down to earth and comfortable, and I got the best head massage! The whole crew there is so genuine and nice, on top of being amazingly talented. I have gotten stopped everywhere: my office, all floors of my building, restaurants, my nail salon, everywhere. I asked Kyle if he had cards that I could give out to people, and I have already given out about 10. He is amazing and I will be going to him for color soon. Definitely try this place out!

Kyle and hair = peanut butter and jelly (or oreos and milk, your preference)

For me, going to a great stylist is like going on a perfect date. Similarly, trying new stylists can be as painful as a string of very VERY bad dates. So when a trusted friend (with very good taste) recommended Kyle, I knew that I was in for a very good experience. The trip alone makes for a nice Saturday or Sunday. I got there a little early and purposefully parked in the garage at 4th and Broadway so that I could walk the length of the Promenade and enjoy some window shopping before getting in the chair. After getting my fill of street performers and pretty fall skirts, I arrived at the salon and was seated with no wait time. My appointment started with meeting Kyle, telling him what I wanted and then listening to him walk me through how he would use his techniques to make it happen. Next came meticulously hand-painted highlights, good conversation, an amazing shampoo from Curtis, and a delicious glass of wine. I never once found someone trying to rush the process or shove magazines in my face. At one point I felt more like I was at party than at the salon- and that's a good thing! The entire experience was stress-free, and the result was fabulous hair. Great color, great cut. Thanks Kyle!

• Pros: Ambiance, location, service (parking is actually easy, just use a garage)
• Cons: Lighting could be a bit brighter

Fantastic experience

I found Kyle through Citysearch (thank you to all the other reviewers) and was thrilled because his salon is so close to my house. The first time I went in, he and I had a conversation in which he asked me what I was looking for. I loved that he didn't just jump into the haircut, especially because I was looking for something different, and that he truly wanted me to be happy. That first haircut and blowdry ranks as one of the best I've ever had. My hair looked so amazing that several people literally stopped me that night to ask me where I get my hair done. Since then, I've been back for highlights and another haircut. I have been extremely happy with every experience - from checking in, to having my hair shampooed (Curtis is fantastic!!) to cut and style. I highly highly recommend Kyle and his salon.

KYLE MATHIS IS YOUR MAN!!!!

I usually wait until my 3rd visit to an establishment to write a review (past experiences, past mistakes), however, I am inclined to write nothing but positive news about Kyle Mathis. It is hard to find a stylist who can do everything, but with Kyle I have experienced perfect cut and perfect colour, every time. His assistant Curtis will give you HANDS DOWN the best head massage you have ever had (which I believe is essential as part of the service). The salon itself is spacious, hip and very clean. The staff are courteous and helpful. There is zero sales pressure and I leave feeling absolutely fabulous. After 10 years of searching in Los Angeles for an amazing stylist, I have found my man!!!! Thanks Kyle!!!

• Pros: Everything. Including night time and Sunday appointments!
• Cons: Once you know where to park, you are golden!!!
