Soho House meets LA... in a good way

by jay2002 at Citysearch

Went here for the first time a couple of weeks ago, helped out by the evening organized by the WeHo supper club on Wednesdays. I drive by Holloway every single day and i never noticed this building or the restaurant - shame on me. Incredible set up, you go down a few steps and you are in a great lounge that kind of feels like soho house NY but lighter (leather couches, fire place, cozy and shades of brown kind of place). the room opens up to an interior court with tables and that's pretty much the dining area. Food was euro/california. everything was very tasty there were 5 of us. service was lovely too. I have not been giving too many 5 stars, and i am sure this place is not perfect, but my evening was great.

  • Pros: Atmosphere & food
  • Cons: did not spot it on first visit

Space is beautiful

by sasha felix at Citysearch

Went to Palihouse about a month ago and the manager was very gracious. We went for lunch so it wasnt busy. The outdoor patio is great and when you come into the hotel it feels like you are somewhere else. The food was good & the waiter attentive.

  • Pros: great space, outdoor patio, nice design
  • Cons: a bit expensive

Love this place but WAY too expensive

by winey1 at Citysearch

I've been here 4-5 times and I wish I could frequent it more often. I'm sure y'all are just as tired of hearing" in this economy...blah blah blah.." as I am, but there is something to be said for adjusting accordingly. I was here the other night, the service was a bit sketchy, waiter seemed kind of all over the place, but the food was magnificent! I wasn't that hungry, plus I was watching my wallet, but I accompanied a friend from out of town that always wants to come here. I had 1 glass of wine and an appetizer, the gnocchi which was YUMMY, but I still didn't get out of there for under $40. I think that's a bit excessive. Still I will be back, when someone invites me : )

  • Pros: great food, patio
  • Cons: VERY expensive

Do not be fooled! Palihouse is disguised as a fine restaurant, but the service is AWFUL, and the food is average

by calcalcal008 at Citysearch

West Hollywood's Palihouse Holloway falls short...

This restaurant is disguised as a chic restaurant with a classic menu, good waiters, and a fine atmosphere. Dont be fooled! You will be overcharged for average food, AWFUL service, and LOADS of attitude. This place will not last. Check out the article that the Los Angeles Times wrote..

My favorite quotes are...

The hotel is understaffed for guests' needs.

Black-and-gray guest-room decor gets oppressive.

High prices without hotel service or amenities

  • Pros: The atmosphere is nice
  • Cons: Waiters have attitude, bad service, overpriced food

Not only good food, but very affordable.

by sevenson at Citysearch

This innovative hollywood type restaurant has a good contemporary strong French foundation at prices that you won't believe.

My Seared Scottish salmon was well executed, its bacon essence not overtaking the silky wild fish flavor matched a delicious French wine.

You have to try the sample plate of cheeses with fig bread.

The wine list might be short, however it gives you French wines from Provence, Rhone and Languedoc Roussillon.

They don't ANSWER PHONES

by lanijred at Citysearch

I called twice and got disconnected, the Open Table link to make reservations wasn't working and I got no reply to an email sent. I have been there for dinner when they opened and it was good and I wanted to return but this is too much work for one restuarant among so many fabulous ones in LA.

  • Pros: Good once you're there
  • Cons: They are too cool to speak to customers

Good French newcomer

by ag69123 at Citysearch

I just had a dinner at the Hall with my wife - what a lovely experience. The food is very solid, nothing fancy, yet everything was good. The ambiance is definitely Hollywood, fun, dressy, but not snobby.

Citysearch has a price rating of 4$, the Hall is not that expensive, the most expensive item on the menu was $28.

Considering the prices which are charged, the restaurant is worth visiting. My complain for the dinner was that the perfectly prepared Lupe de Mar was served with a regular and not a fish knife, but then for $26 I can't complain about knife selection all that much.

Go, go go!

  • Pros: quality of food, price, value, ambiance
  • Cons: small indoor dining area

New Orleans French Quarter meets Los Angeles minimalism in the lobby of this posh extended-stay hotel.

by Contributor at Citysearch

In Short
Southern hospitality never looked so stylish. This lounge/restaurant/coffee bar is part of the Palihouse, WeHo's boutique hotel that gives extended-stay living a luxurious twist. In the lounge, young Hollywood types meet for drinks while well-to-do hotel guests gather around a faux fireplace that anchors the homey space. Clusters of cushy eather couches create cozy conversation nooks to sip an espresso in the morning, or a Cabernet in the evening. There's also a brasserie, tucked in the corner next to the courtyard. Charles Trenet croons softly through the speakers while diners sample cheese and charcuterie plates and colorful French fare, like croque monsieur, pissaladiere and steak frites.

Hits: Details like antique bicycles by the front door, stuffed birds in gilded cages, and a collection of antique locks create a fun setting. Also, the lobby is open to the public, so if you love the vibe and live in the neighborhood, you can relax with a coffee, pastry, and newspaper at the espresso bar seven mornings a week.

Misses: There is a divide between the guests and lounge-goers, and the hotel clients don't always seem pleased to have their "home" be party central.
